anyone know how Washu acceptances work? Rolling?

so is wash U rolling? or is it november/march ?

WashU is rolling.:luck:👍

Congrats to everyone accepted!! Real quick question--is the pizza party the night before the interview pretty casual? Is it ok to wear jeans?

It's very laid-back. Not toga laid-back, but certainly jeans laid-back.

interviewing on Thursday, November 20!

I'm coming early enough on Wednesday to attend the pizza party. :luck:

would it be rude to show up at the pizza party but not eat anything? Do they have any food other than pizza that's healthy? Maybe I'll eat a slice and then workout at the second floor or something, haha...

Last year, I think it was pizza (pepperoni+sausage, pepperoni-only, and cheese) with sodas. I don't think anyone would mind if you didn't eat, though.

cool. I'll have some diet soda and MAYBE a slice of pepperoni.

Anyone who already interviewed got any suggestions on what to read up on on the Wash U website?

Will they tell you if you're accepted if you call them?

I'm also from CA. Interviewed 10/23. No news thus far.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but Tupacalipse was the first one accepted and I think he's from CA too. Anyway, I have no status update either, but I'm still hopeful.

True, but I think the committees work by location of the school the applicant attends, and he goes to one of the HYP schools I believe.

I'm still hoping until I get a rejection!

MA resident (midwest undergrad) here, and no status change for me, either... I'm remaining hopeful, since it doesn't look like anyone else from the northeast or the midwest has heard anything yet? Correct me if I'm wrong...

So healthy. I wish I had your self-control. When I went they also had salad. So you could go for that.

I'm positive it has to do with regional committees (that's what they told us on interview day). Tupacalipse (sp?) and I go to the same school on the East Coast.

Ah yes, to clarify they said it was by school or at least by school region... and though I'm from CA, I go to school in the northeast.

So CA people shouldn't be concerned.

Ah, thanks for letting us know. There's still hope after all!

Is anyone else on this thread interviewing on Friday? I'll be staying for two nights (until Sat) so that I can explore the area--I've never been to St. Louis before. If you're in the same boat, let's hang out!

Otherwise, does anyone have suggestions for things to check out?

I'm at Olin hall right now. I checked out the awesome fitness facility that was advertised on WashU's website and was thoroughly disappointed 🙁 It's not even close to as good as the one at Wisconsin. The weight room is so small and narrow. The equipments themselves are all nice and modern, except for maybe the flat bench press, the bar isn't perpendicular to the bench so it feels kinda weired.

Everything else at Olin Hall is awesome though. And speaking of security, this place is so tightly guarded with swipe card terminals.

heh, I didn't have this much self control before. Prior to April, for the three weeks that I spent studying for the MCAT/doing practice tests, I ate a gallon of ice cream, 1 entire red barron pizza, and a box of cookies all in one day. Now when I think about it just the thought makes me sick. I was at 18% body fat in April, now I'm down to 6.5-6.7%.

Edit: Yea they had salad, but the forks ran out really fast 🙁 I ended up going to Applebees after hanging out at the pizza party to chat with my MedBuddy.

wow the screeching elevators and the constant air filter sound (or whatever it is, the loud, monotomous sound coming from the window) is making it very hard to sleep 🙁

Time to shower and prepare for the interview I guess, and drink lots and lots of caffeine in the morning.

My interview is tomorrow but I've lived in St. Louis all my life so PM me if you need suggestions. There's tons of great stuff to do in St. Louis!

my schedule has two interviews, one at 1 pm and another at 2 pm

Hi guys,

Quick Question, I just resubmitted my application (see reasons here).

Well I just want to make sure about a few things, my sister just turned 18, and lives with us, do I put her down as an adult family member, or leave her as a child? (I know stupid question).

Also, I remember my class rank, it was really bad like 100th out of 500 or so. Will this hurt? I did step up my act in college and my essay talks about my problems early on in life and how I never expected to go to college in the first place etc... (primary personal statement).

I sucked in high school too, (in fact we seem to have the exact same story) and I got in!

For you guys who have been accepted, did y'all find out via phone call or status page. Oh yeah, Congrats!!

I think most ppl found out on the status page. Tupacalispse's interviewer called him.

that happened to one of the people when I interviewed. One of the people is doing interviews for the first time and they give you another "more experienced" interviewer. I'm not sure if both count or only the experienced person. But it gives some standardization.

A girl at my table asked the dean why some have two interviewers. He told us it was more of a quality control of their own interviewers, nothing to do with interviewees, and about 30% get double interviews.

The interview itself was very relaxing 🙂

Oh, and for those of you who've interviewed, does the "Visit Arrangement" link/tab on the left side disappear post-interview, because mine sure did. Is this normal?

yep, it's normal for that tab to go away. Now we play the waiting game.

Does anyone know when the other regional committees are supposed to meet? I swear, I've checked my status page about 50 times today hoping for news.

The Dean mentioned something about the committee meeting 6 times a year to hand out acceptances post-interview, he also said the next one MIGHT be before christmas.

What's regional committee? He never said anything about that.

Other people in the thread have said that the adcom at WashU is divided into sub-committees based on the geographical region of your undergrad institution:

Hmm, my interviewer did say they had regional committees... Maybe the one dealing with west coast people hasn't met yet?

I interviewed on 10/8 and, since I haven't heard anything yet, I'm assuming that the committee for schools in the midwest hasn't met yet (that, or I'm looking at a rejection 🙁).

as far as i know there haven't been any cal acceptances. i know i havent gotten one.

Gloryfield, I think I may have met you today, haha.

and yeah, according to the dean, now we have a wonderful period of waiting until sometime before Christmas....hopefully

the interview itself is indeed very, very relaxing.

And the facilities are niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. It's all like, mad new.

except olin. That's kinda old. But the 11th floor penthouse is pretty sweet.

I went up to the 11th floor but couldn't figure out how to work the TV, it was huge though, and the floor is indeed pretty sweet

Although I'm not sure how it would fit 122 drunken med students

Anyone who went to school in the MD/VA region who has interviewed heard yet? I am a CA reisdent who interviewed first week of October - no update on status page and no letter/call. I hope it doesn't mean the worst yet. I don't know if I'd be included in the same Northeast category?

I interviewed a few weeks later than you, from a midwest school as well and haven't heard yet either. No one from my school has heard except for an MSTP acceptance (completely different at Wash U) as far as I am aware.

Hopefully we'll both be hearing good news soon :luck: WashU is definitely one of my top choices.

Haha yeah I tried to work the TV and all that turned on was the radio. Apparently they throw huge parties there, I'm not sure how. But if you add in the outside, maybe it fits, haha. Too bad it was freezing cold....

I go to school in MD and I interviewed yesterday. I got the interview invite like...a few weeks before that. Yup.

Heh. I wish I knew who you were. I do recall a guy saying he was from U of Maryland though, but I forgot what he/you looked like 🙁

I think most ppl found out on the status page. Tupacalispse's interviewer called him.

I also got an "Extremely Urgent" USPS post containing my acceptance letter the same day that I found out via the status page. Hang in there, guys!
