So lets you get the interview hold message and they have given you the score, and the next date for handing out acceptances you dont get in....would you assume that you are on the waitlist and wont be given acceptance in the next round??

No. Here's how it was explained at my interview...

When you interview you're given a "priority score". For the December 15th batch of acceptances, the school decided on a cutoff score, and everyone above that got an acceptance. The rest of us did not.

For each additional round of acceptances, a new cutoff is determined and more offers are made. So, it all depends on the cutoff and what your score is...for EACH round.

So, we're all still in with a chance for Feb 1st. And if no acceptance is offered then, we all have a shot in March...if no acceptance then, you go on the waitlist.

Got it? It's a really 'flicted way to do this process if you ask me, but that's VCU for ya.

OK, so here's a quick question.
Is it true that VCU finishes interviewing by early/mid March? So, I'm assuming that if you don't hear from them by end of February about an interview invite, you are pretty much done at VCU. Those who has gotten acceptances even in June/July are the ones who had interviewed by March and placed on the waitlist, right?
Thanks.

That is exactly right. Toward the end of the interview season, though, they really try and open up spaces for high priority candidates (those w/ good numbers who applied late, those with strong ties to MCV).

Between here and March 15th (ish) people have the opportunity to be accepted. If you dont interview by then you are out of luck. So logistically if you dont schedule by February you probably wont get in.

Between March 15th and May 15th almost no one gets in. There is very, very little movement on the waitlist as people can hold more than 1 acceptance. By May 15th the waitlist begins to move as applicants must only be holding 1 acceptance. Those who get in after March were already on the waitlist.

Thanks for the info. Now, at least I know when the waiting can stop.

yes thanks instate and digital!

i was just wondering... how many people get rejected flat out after their interview? with SDN as my only resource it seems as if most are either accepted or on the waitlist... is this true or wrong? I was happy that I got the hold message after my interview but i got to thinking... that maybe not much people get rejected anyways... which would also make the waitlist size incredibly huge... which scares me ALOT

I don't know the number of people who actually get rejected but I can comment on waitlist length...the last 2 years, I believe, some people were rejected on the day the waitlist was formed in order to keep the waitlist from being way too long. And if you are waitlisted on 3/15, contact Dr. WC after 5/15-she will try to give you some idea of your chances as soon as she can. She was a great help for me last summer.

Good luck everyone.:luck:

Does any one know how long they interview until and whens the last time they offer interviews

march 6th is last day of interviews. They will probably offer until mid february

these next 2 weeks are going to be torture! its 2 weeks away til the next decision date but i'm so antsy already! and if i dont hear anything then, i dont know how i'm going to be able to wait another 1.5 months so i reallllllly pray that i hear in feb.

btw, anyone know how many interviews they're doing this year? i read the previous years posts and was wondering are they doing the 800 or 650? thanks.

have any jan interviewees had decisions made on them yet?

I wonder if the committee is meeting this mon, because if not there's only one more until the Feb 1st deadline....

and strawberry84, Dr. WC said that they're interviewing 800 this year.

Hi!
I was just wondering how many of you are currently in the Grad-Certificate Program at MCV/VCU?

If you are, not to be rude, how did you do last semester? and what are your stats?

🙂 Thank you!!

Are you thinking about doing that program? I am NOT in it, but I know a couple things. I was thinking about doing it last year so I looked into it a little.

One of my teachers who used to be on the adcom told me not to do it. She said that she's never seen it help anyone. It's VERY hard, and is really only worth it if you finished your B.S. years ago, and need to do some post bacc work to prove you've still got it.

The other problem I found is with registration. Students in the Post-bacc certificate programs register dead last on the MCV campus. But the classes you are required to take are VERY specific. Meaning, if the classes you're required to take fill up, you're SOL.

Enough to turn me away from it. I've heard to 1 year postbacc programs at EVMS and Georgetown are MUCH better.

Sorry I might have to disagree with you since I DID the program a few years back.

She was right on the money saying the program is very hard. It is.

As to when students register, the main classes you take are nowhere near full (biochem and phys) the rest are very program specific and dont fill up. I personally never had problems, never had a close-to-full class and never knew anyone who did either. There is only overlap with the first year MS/PhD candidates (not that many) and about 10 NPs for the phys course. Med, dent, nursing, pharm, allied health dont take the same classes.

As to the assertion that it is has never helped anyone: This is pretty much the only reason that I got in. First year I applied I got flat out rejected after I went to the committee. The second year (after the cert program) I got in. The only change is the cert program...

This type of program is what people call an SMP (special masters program). There are various programs throughout the country. They are graduate programs where you essentially take the first year of medical school to prove you can hack it. These programs are good for people with strong MCATs and low grades. Georgetown is probably the most well known and respected. EVMS is also a solid program. Entrance into those programs is much more stringent. Because of this they have better candidates who apply. the MCV program pretty much lets everyone in and makes them prove they belong. This is great if you have low stats and need to prove yourself but also opens the door to people who just cant hack it. Trust me there were some *****s in that program that just didnt belong in medical school. So those people are clearly not getting in and and their acceptance rate is below Georgetown and EVMS'. Anyone who would succeed in those programs would also succeed in the VCU program. The only difference is you have a better chance at getting into MCV from this program and it is much, much cheaper than EVMS or Georgetown. I spent under 9K on the program. Georgetown is over 35K, EVMS around 30 add living expenses of DC or Norfolk and you are talking about an even larger difference.

If you have the cash and the grades, EVMS and Georgetown are excellent programs but the VCU program definitely served its purpose for me.

Hi everyone,
I was just granted an interview at VCU. I was wondering if anyone of you can shed some light on how the interviewing technique is. Is there a panel of interviewers? How many? And was it a formal or informal interview? I'd really appreciate any response to this matter.

Thanks!

You have one interview and they are VERY relaxed and conversational. They're one-on-one and absolutely nothing to be worried about.

Good luck.

Congratulations on the interview! MCV is known for the relaxed and laid back interviews. Here's how your day will go:

You show up and wait in the waiting room with all of the other interviewees. Mr. Kenyon will then give you a sheet of paper showing you the directions to your interviewer's office. You'll have your interview (about 45 minutes) one on one usually with a physician. really conversational so relax!

Good luck!:luck:

Thank you, saqrfaraj and mmmcat for your tips. I'm feeling so much better after reading your replies =D

I just withdrew my acceptance at VCU. I liked the school, but got into my top choice. I hope that helps someone out.

congrats, Jolie😀 on ur Baylor acceptence 🙂

just wanted to show the thread some love in anticipation of the pending friday acceptances!

Remember the committee meets Mondays, so today they probably decided who gets admitted this round.

Pray, or cross your fingers!!

anybody know the usual turnaround time between interview and being reviewed? this is killing me

i interviewed first week of december and got the reviewed status update email in the second week of january

**crossing my fingers for friday 6PM**

Still waiting on my priority score to get called to the big leagues. Who else is with me??

I interviewed in October, wasn't reviewed in time for the October 15 results, no word on the Dec 15 results day....Here's hoping for Round 3....C'mon February 1st....

The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

Has anyone gotten this status change recently (so obviously late it the cycle) and gotten an interview? Or is it basically too late?

I got reviewed today and got put on hold for grades. so no feb 1st info for me. 🙁

I guess march 15th isn't that far away....too bad at that point I'll be begging for a waitlist spot.

beach blonde, did they contact you directly to say that you are on hold for grades?

yes. it's online as well, but I got a very nice phone call. kinda heartbreaking, but the guy on the other end was so polite!

I interviewed in mid to late October and nothing happened for me on December 15. At this point, I'm expecting a WL in March. That isn't good for IS...especially if they interviewed 800 this year. The year they interviewed 900 the WL hardly moved. Any idea how many acceptances are going out this time? Or how many have already gone out?

Good Luck!

Kneige, for the age-old question, were you put on pre-interview hold, if so when and which message (ie. "very interested", "interested... MAY interview", or "consider further"?)

the next big day is this weekend isn't it? :scared:
i almost forgot

Me too, and just looking - does this mean we will hear on Friday, or the usual 6pm on Saturday (or the unanounced day before release)? Not that it matters, I'm sure I will check both anyways.

my sympathies on the grade hold beachblonde

Good Luck guys and girls! I just withdrew my acceptance from VCU last week so hopefully that opens up a spot for someone else🙂

Hi tbo,
I got the 'the committee would like to consider you further' from about early dec to early jan. And then, the status changed to granting me an interview and asking me to choose a date. I'm sorry, I didn't notice the exact wording cuz I was so excited, I chose a date and now I can't look back at the status change message. I hope it helped =)

The best of luck to all of you sitting by the phone, or staring at your email. MCV is the best, we are all lucky to be here and I hope that you will be joining us in the fall.🙂

I interviewed in early Dec, but I have yet to receive the so-called status update that lets you know your priority score has been entered into the computer.

I'm assuming I won't hear by Feb. 1. Anyone else in the same boat?

Here's to Mar. 15!

I interviewed mid Dec, but I haven't received a status update about my file being reviewed either. Uggh, I don't think I can wait another month! 🙁

Last time acceptances went out (Dec. 14) it seemed that many people got an update on the evening of the 13th that they had been reviewed. I think one even got accepted the next day. So you never know, you may be updated this evening.

Actually I think you are off by a day. Last time acceptances went out was supposed to be December 15th, but because it was a Saturday they posted them online on Friday the 14th. But this time because February 1st falls on a Friday and not a weekend I'm expecting the decisions to be posted in the evening of the listed day, Feb 1st, which is tomorrow.

I don't have any evidence of course, but this is what makes sense to me.

Oh wops, my bad. I should really learn to read haha
