So the first of my transcripts was received by AMCAS. Do my grades not get verified until I formally submit my AMCAS application or can it get verified in May?

No verification until you submit, sorry!

Yep. From personal experience (took College Spanish in high school), you absolutely must report these classes, which is usually a bonus for the GPA, because they're generally As.

That being said, it makes the whole grade-reporting section categorically more difficult, because you're going to have to track down and send in all the transcripts from these disparate schools, and learn how to translate each school's transcript language into AMCAS. Try to keep the GPA-bump in mind while you're doing this...

Back in High school, I took two summer classes at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (Trig and Pre-calc) in order to take Calculus my senior year

I received an A in both (which is not difficult to do)
I was wondering, do these go on my premed app??

or do they belong in oblivion??

Yep, you have to report them and you have to get a transcript from that college.

I know that transcripts can't be verified until you submit AMCAS so with that being said, what's the best way to be on top of the ball at this point? Do you go ahead and mail out the transcript request form and presumably the various institutions will mail out transcripts and then as soon as you can submit, if AMCAS has those transcripts they can go ahead and start verifying?

does anyone know if you can fax a transcript request form to your school, or do you have to snail mail it? Will the AMCAS take a signature that is faxed when the school sends the transcript to AMCAS?

yes you can fax the form, I did.

If you wanna be on top of things send the transcripts now, and then when you submit on june 2nd yours should be one of the first ones to be verified. I remember someone saying on SDN that they sent their transcripts in may, submitted june 1st then like 5 days later they were verified. Where if you wait until late june or july you get 2-3 week verification waits.

Please remember that a lot of transcript offices are getting slammed at this time of year due to graduation. Get your requests in early!!

Does anyone know how to list dates for an institution that you attended twice with a lag in between. Specifically, I attended a 4 yr undergrad institution however twice, during the summers, when I'd come home, I took some gen eds at the local community college. How do I list this? I went in the summer of 2003 and again in the summer of 2006. Thanks.

Your start date is the 1st class you ever took there so in this case 2003, then your end date is the last class. I know it seems odd as in your case it might read you were there from 2003-2007 or something, but remember adcoms arent idiots or something its obvious when looking at your transcripts what happened so i wouldnt worry. Personally on my app it says i went to a CC from 2003-2007, when i only attended from 2006-2007 in reality, the past classes were a few in HS i took.

Thanks Elijah. I just thought it looked a little funny as it seemed I was attending two institutions simultaneously in two completely different parts of the country.

I did a search and didn't see this answered:

I TA'd 4 classes throughout my UG career - 2 chem, 1 bio and 1 programming - so they are all very different in terms of what and how much I had to do.

Do I put the 4 separately so I can highlight my individual activities there, or just make one "Teaching Assistant" category.

I'm just worried because they were all very time consuming, and I want the schools to know how much time I spent on teaching.

Suggestions? I'm inclined to leave them separated as 4 EC's...Or maybe lump the 2 chem ones together and leave the others alone?

I would group them all together personally. Unless I needed to fill space.

hi all,
i had a question about submitting research grades onto amcas. i did my research in a clinical setting, meaning no benchwork and strictly patient interaction. however, i have no idea whether to submit the grades i got for research under "LECTURE ONLY" or "LAB ONLY." do you guys have any recommendations? thankyou

lab only.

I think you can 're-do' your AMCAS and just add more schools, but I'm sure there is some sort of time delay involved.

Why on Earth are you doing this? State school situation or something?

No delay. As soon as you are verified, you can add schools. As soon as you pay, they'll be sent off to the school.

Yes, go ahead and start gathering your transcripts together.

Hi, I took a jc (semesters) class in high school and when I report it on AMCAS I am supposed to put freshman 2006-2007 but since I am at a quarter system school do i put Quarter 1 even though the jc was on semesters? Thanks

Also, can I just not put in my in progress courses? I am taking some pass/no pass and i dont want to have to put those if i dont have to.

Where do you look to see if they have received your transcripts?

I sent out my request forms to my 2 institutions last week and want to know where to check if they have arrived.

Thanks!

Wait, so we can add/delete schools after we turn in our primary and it's all verified?
I heard you could also add letters throughout the cycle after everything has been turned in?

Hey are you supposed to send in your transcripts when you're ready to submit your AMCAS... or before that? Also, how long before submitting your AMCAS should you send your transcript? My school will send it out within like 2 business days, so I figured I would just send them right after i submit my app. but now I see people on SDN submitting RIGHT NOW... why?

Sooner you submit the sooner you can be verified. If u submit today for example, then on june 2nd you can be one of the first verified. Honestly sending it now or june 2nd wont make a huge overall difference but w/e. Unless you are waiting for spring grades id send them out asap.

AMCAS sends u an email, not sure if u can check on the primary i didnt see a way too

No you list them as semester classes as thats what they truly are. You should put in your future courses but its not a necessity. if u have any pre reqs you have yet to take then you defiantly might want to add those as future classes so they know.

mail isn't immediate. If you have everything else filled out and ready when you submit, you will be verified faster if AMCAS already has your transcript. If they have to wait to get it, then it takes longer, because more people will have submitted by then....

Do LOE have to be officially received and verified by AMCAS before we can submit the application?

I don't think my letter writers will have it in until mid-June, and I'd like to submit on June 1 if at all possible.

No they LORs are part of the 2ndary apps you dontneed them to be verified.

I thought it specifically asked if you have applied to med school before or not. I know it asks you if you have matriculated or attended a school in the past...I thought I remember seeing if they asked about simply applying before from last year when I filled this stuff out. Maybe I saw that question on secondaries, not on AMCAS?

when you select what schools you are sending your primary to, it asks if you applied to that school before

It asks when you put in each school if you have applied to it before. I don't remember it asking anywhere else, though. Also, merging with the 2009-2010 AMCAS thread.

It asks individually for every school you add.

cool cool. thanks.

and damn, ksmith, that was some fast moderating! haha I think someone's enjoying her new mod powers. 😛

For those who attended UCI, is Bio 199 (research) considered lecture or lab?

I put it as lecture but honestly it doesnt matter I think. Looking back maybe lab is more appropriate? I did clinical research so i felt lab wasnt really appropriate. I guess ill find out if amcas gives me problems june 2nd

Are ap courses considered p/no pass? What do we put under grade and course type? Thanks

If you click on the 'more information' link (it doesn't say exactly that, but if you look, you'll see what link I mean) on the front page, where it lists your status (not verified for everyone right now), it'll give you a run down of what's been received and what hasn't been received.

Wait, so we can add/delete schools after we turn in our primary and it's all verified?
I heard you could also add letters throughout the cycle after everything has been turned in?

You cannot delete schools after you submit, but you can add them.

Assuming your school is like most and doesn't give actually grades for AP, they're pass/no pass. I left the grade blank the first time I applied, but I got sick of all those red errors that popped up, so I put in P this time. I don't think it matters one way or another, as long as you don't put in an actual grade (A-F). Course type is AP...

hi guys, for year classification when entering course work... if i entered with enough ap/jc units to be classified as a sophmore do i just begin classifying my 1st quarter at undergrad as sophmore? It goes by units right not year in school... Thanks

Your AP credits don't count until you begin school. Thus, they will always be classified as Freshman.

sorry i think i made it a little confusing...

i put my ap classes and high school jc classes as freshman,

But as far as my 1st quarter at undergrad courses go do I begin with sophmore? Thus making only my AP and high school jc classes "freshman" status. Thanks a lot!

But you can't change status in the middle of a semester/quarter/whatever. So your entire first term would be classified as Freshman, regardless of what your actual status was.

Hey guys and gals,

I took a "Career and Life Option" course a long time ago. Students take MBTI test, see their results on personality trait and job possibilities and whatnot. Would this go under "Other" or something else? Thank you!

im sure this has been asked 2983472938432 times, but with work/activities, i know you guys are all saying to discuss the activities just in regular format or w/ bullets based on what you feel comfortable with.

-is it ok to mix them? so could one of my activities have bullets and the other be in a standard format? i like the bullets but there are a couple that sound much better w/o them

-really, i dont know what to use. :| i know both are acceptable, but im stuck.

I have a feeling I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway. I am taking an online Ecology course in the Fall at a different university to substitute for the Ecology course at my university (long story why I'm doing this). I know this transfer credit will not count toward my GPA at my university, but will it be counted in my AMCAS GPA? I was kind of looking forward to not caring about my grade in this class, but now I realized they will probably calculate this course into my GPA 🙁

Unfortunately, yes.

Add/delete schools that you've attended? No.

Add schools that you want to apply to? Yes.

Remove schools that you've indicated you want to apply to? Sure, don't fill out the secondary.

Yes you can add letters throughout the cycle. (There may be a date after which you can't add anymore, if there is I don't know what it is.)

No. LOR can be added after you submit. Mid-June is fine as you probably won't get any secondaries until July.

How can anyone answer this for you? Do it how it seems best to you.

I think you are being too nitpicky here. Go with whichever.
