If its on a transcript you have to include it no matter what. If you dont amcas can always add it when they verify but it could delay your app. If youre reallllllly lazy i suppose you could just not do it and have amcas do it? lol

dammit. LOL. Since we're on the topic-I also take an SAT prep course while I was in hs, which was offered at my university-that shows up on my transcript as well, but do I need to include that? It was in hs, before I matriculated into college.

Thats odd...SAT prep classes shouldnt be on your college transcripts...but once again the same rule applies. If its on a college transcript it must be listed no matter what it is or how ludicrious or odd the class/credit may be. AMCAS is very anal about this.

Yeah, that's weird. But they appear all the way on the bottom of my transcript, so I can just add them as last, right? Since that's how it appears on my transcript, after all my other courses?

I have no idea about the SAT issue (sorry), but had 2 questions:

1. Can the AMCAS be submitted without your MCAT scores -- i know this would result in losing money if my scores are too low, but i wanted to double check if it's possible anyhow

2. my school insists on not sending my letters of rec to AMCAS until i start to receive secondaries...does this mean that the AMCAS can be sent without LORs?

1. I think so.

2. Yes.

Maybe this has already been addressed, but I can't find it. In the "activities" section, it asks for the name of a person to contact to verify each activity, but asks nothing about HOW to contact them (phone #, email, etc). What's the deal with this? Are we supposed to include their contact info in the description, or just assume that we will be contacted later by the AMCAS people to give them this info?

Blah, really? I took it like two years ago, meaning I'd have to redo my course list 👎 Is it required that I enter it? It's listed as "professional education" as opposed to undergrad education on my transcript....I don't want to redo my courses....ahhhhh somebody please tell me this isn't required!
Um, you can add classes out of order. AMCAS will reorder them chronologically later.

Its just a formality, I've never heard of anyone ever being contacted by AMCAS or any individual AdCom. I didn't include any additional details and was never asked for any.

yeah, don't want to delay verification.

Contact name is sufficient.

That will not delay verification. The computer reorders everything by semester...

Really? Sweet, I didn't know that. Thanks.

how much does it cost per school for the primary application?

1. Yes.
2. It can be, but your school is delaying your completion dates for secondaries. Protest, but don't make them angry.

Note: to those who have taken courses (such as EMT courses) and received 0 credits and no grades, and that appears on your UNOFFICIAL transcript, you may want to check with your university to see if it will be reflected on your UNOFFICIAL transcript. I just called my university to ask why my SAT prep course from HS was on my unofficial transcript (I took it before matriculating, of course) and they said such courses, as well as my EMT course will NOT be reflected on my official transcript; they are just there for my records. So, double check with your school, so as to prevent adding a course that won't be listed on your official transcript! 🙂

The amcas does not give an option of 2009-2019 academic year. So we can not enter future future (fall2009) courses?

I meant 2009-2010, thanks.

My AMCAS applicationdoes not give me that option. It starts with 2000-01 and ends with 2008-09. 😕

That's strange. Mine starts with 2003-2004 and ends with 2012-2013. Call AMCAS.

thanks guys, now I know that's is not normal. I'm giving AAMC a call right now.

maybe it depends on when you matriculated into college?

Ok, I just talked to them and since I'm returning to this particular school after studying at another one for a few years, I would need to add the school again and say that transcript is not required.

yo, so i was told we would be uploading a photo to AMCAS. don't see a place to do this. was i told bad info? thanks.

yo, I think you're talking about TMDSAS , which is a service used by medical schools in Texas.

What's the proper procedure for listing AP credit. For example, Sr year in HS i took AP Psych, got a 5 on the test. On the top of my college transcript I am given credit for Psych 101 with a grade of "S". How do I list this? As a freshman year grade or for year in school do I choose high school. My college transcript shows it corresponding to the fall of my freshman year.

AP credit should be listed under the first term of your freshman year at college. The High School designation is for college level courses taken while in high school.

Why would you have to redo your list? It'll sort according to term, so if you took it 2 years ago, it'll automatically pop up at the top of your list.

If we are recieveing FAP, how do we receive the discount. Is it automatic? Can't be, it has not given me yet.

Nvm. I'm a noob. 😀

Log into your FAP app, and the status should be displayed on the front page. If you received it, then your balance should be $0 for your first 13 schools on AMCAS.

this is making me kinda paranoid, but under the work/activities section, are you listing shadowing as "other" or should it go under a different category. it surprises me that something as common as shadowing does have its own experience type.

list under other

we should really make a FAQ for this... it would be used every year

NOT IT

sorry, was this addressed earlier? i tried keeping up every day so i wouldn't ask repetitive questions but it became too much

Under Course Work, did you guys put down every single class you WILL take before matriculation? It says you could do that on the AMCAS but I am not sure if anyone does that.

Also is it ok if I listed, for example, a biology class: under course number I put "Bio 114", under course name I put "Form, Function and Ecology"?

don't worry about it, the thread is really long anyway to check through. ask away.

my thing is that the application really doesn't change from year to year... so i'm not sure if we need to do one each yet but, yea, I def don't want to make the FAQs

i meant yes for the 2nd question

1st question, you can, you don't have to, it's not binding, won't help or hurt you

Seems like kind of a simple questions, but what are credit hours?

My school does semesters, and counts each class as 1.0 units. Should I just put it down as 1 hour? Also, I've got transfer credits from another school where one summer class (counts for two semesters of Physics) is 8.0 units. Is there a conversion table somewhere??

I am taking my last pre-req course for english this summer at a city college. Is it absolutely necessary to finish the pre-reqs before submitting the primary. I could put it as a future course, but I don't want to mention the fact that I am taking it at a city college. What should I do?

For in progress classes, can we put IP under transcript grade in addition to the course type?

I'm listing the courses I'm taking for the 2009-10 academic year & I'm registered for all of them (meaning they will appear on my official transcript, I'm assuming), except for one course I'm taking in the Winter. I haven't registered for it yet because it requires approval from the department, and I just haven't got around to getting that yet..although it shouldn't be a problem.
I want to list the course just to be complete, but will it be a problem since it won't appear on my official transcript?

No, because they (future courses) don't get verified

If I receive "special recognition certificates" for every semester that I acheive a certain GPA, should that be listed as awards? It's not like I got a 4.0 or anything like that and it seems like a lot of other med school applicants would qualify if they went to the same university I did since the criteria is 3.5 or higher.

Believe me great majority of pre-meds have achieved a decent GPA and would be on dean's lists and honor's list etc. I would not list them. ADCOMS would know your GPA anyway.
