Congrats, med14. Welcome to OHSU.

For those of you thinking about housing options, I'd invite you to consider Phi Beta Pi, the OHSU cooperative. We are a former fraternity house, but have been co-ed and non-greek for decades now. We are ~20 students, mainly MD, but also some PA, RN, PhD types. We live in a big old house that's literally across the street from campus. Walking <5 mins to class in the morning, or to your surgery rotation at 5 in the morning...

As a cooperative, we share a lot of resources and are therefore able to live on relatively cheap rent. We enjoy living in a community of scholars (with benefits of impromptu advising from upperclassmen), while also being mindful of each others' study/sleep needs.

Learn a bit more about us at our website: www.ohsucoop.com. We're accepting applications now and tend to reserve a few spots for incoming med students.

Enjoy your summer, yo.

So last year they gave out a total of 218 acceptance offers. I asked admissions how many they'd given out already this year and they said about 200. So hopefully this year is not similar to last year, because then the alternate list will only go into the teens.

hey chuck84, i don't quite understand your assessment. if they gave out less acceptance offers this year, wouldn't we expect more wait list movement? unless, of course, they were more careful in choosing applicants who would certainly matriculate if accepted.

OK. Two things:

1) The proportion of people who are turning down the acceptances matter. Of those 200 already given out, 125 of them, could have said "no." Since OHSU doesn't over-accept, they never have more than the class size out in offers of acceptance. The total # of acceptances is not the end goal -- the final class size is.

2) Assuming there were only 18 spots left (which I don't think is the case), that would more likely translate in a greater WL movement than 18. Once again not everyone on the WL wants to go to OHSU. I would guess than 18 spots in the class would cause the WL to move by about 30 or so spots.

When I was interviewing, Katy said they give 200 to 250 offers of acceptance. I think that 218 was unusually low.

Keep your heads up. Good luck.

Oh good point. That's a little more reassuring.

They have accepted to #6, FYI.

They've accepted at least through #9 today (which was me). Looks like they're starting to get some good movement, good luck everybody, hope to see you in Portland!

A belated congratulations to you, 2H2! I wonder if things have slowed down since we haven't heard from anyone else? There is usually a page you can go to that shows what number they are on, but I can't find one for this year.

I don't see anything, but maybe it doesn't show up after acceptance? That's weird, last year it was just posted on a website that didn't require a login. Still, good luck to everyone! There is a Facebook page for the class of 2014 that currently only has 89 members in it - and some of those are OHSU staff, family members, etc. There's a good chance that some people that have already been accepted haven't joined, but I bet there's not a lot. Good luck to everyone that's still waiting!

Not as many people have facebook as you think.

Ack! Number 12, the wait is driving me crazy!

I was number 13 and I just got accepted... I withdrew. Good luck, number 14.

I'm going to withdraw from OHSU. Even though the list is still at #17, it looks like it might reach and surpass my number of 47. Best of luck! And I hope my withdrawal benefits one of you! USC, here I come.

Does anyone know when the Tuition deposit is due? That may tell us when more movement on the waitlist may occur.

I haven't even received my financial aid package, so I'm hoping not too soon. How long after your acceptance did everybody get their financial aid package letters?

Still at 19. Hasn't moved far lately. Here's this year compared to other years:

Well, after contemplating long and hard, I'm giving up my acceptance here, so at least it will get to 20! Good luck to you guys. I was also a reapplicant and got an outright acceptance after my interview-rejected last year, so applying again really does give you and edge over the rest.

Whats the waitlist number now? Just wondering how fast it is moving this summer.

eh, sorry, posted twice...don't know how to delete a post

Wow, the waitlist is slow this year. Back in the good old days, 2006 when I applied, the number would be at 70 by now and heading toward 90.

And if that was the case, I'd be going to med school this year... *sigh*

Dang, that is slow. I wonder why? Hmm...

Well, good luck to those still on the list. I am a re-applicant, so I definitely know how it feels. There is one good thing to keep in mind...you will get in somewhere, one year. Its just a matter of time. Keep up the persistence!

Hello! Good luck to all of you still waiting. I was a waitlister my year. My biggest anxiolytic was knowing they only updated the waitlist number once a day. Which meant I only needed to log in once, maybe twice, and wasn't going to miss it.

So, I can't access your application portal, and it's been almost a month since anyone last posted! I saw Lori the other day, but didn't think to ask. What number are they on??

Anyhow, best of luck this next week...!

Thanks, Chuck!

I was #36 my year. I can't imagine...

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you... :xf:
