INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! first and hopefully not the last on October 21st...who all else is gonna be there?

I was invited or the 21st, but asked to postpone til the 28th, cause it's a lot easier for me to get time off work that week (since I already have Wednesday off).

Congrats and good luck 🙂

I will be and so will one of my friends. So that is three of us. Any idea on how many they take vs interview for early decision?

I think 9/23 is also ED date.

I and two other friends are interviewing on 9/23; none of us are applying ED.

The first interview date is also the ED date, but the vast majority of the people interviewing will not be ED. Also, USC cheats and lets you know if you are accepted before 10/15 if you interview on this date, but they'll hold off on a waitlist/hold notice until 10/15.

if you apply regular, how soon after teh interview will you know if youve been accepted?

To explain that, I have to explain how they score you. Basically, right after you interview--and have a chance to meet with each of the committee members--they committee will meet and rate your application. You'll still be on campus getting a financial aid lecture, by the way. Everyone who they score better than last year's average will be offered a place. They finish with committee about the time you go home, so they've quite literally made a decision before the day is over.

Now, when I applied two years ago, one guy in my group was accepted and posted on SDN. I think he got a call on Friday regarding his acceptance. This was still about 3-4 weeks before they could officially accept you per AAMC rules. I was waitlisted, and found out via letter on October 15th.

So, you'll know within a couple days... a week at most.

Hey guys, good luck to all of you interviewing soon! I am an M1 at USC and I just wanted to tell you that this is seriously the place with the nicest staff, faculty, and students EVER. They won't grill you about that, except out of interest.

I am loving it here, even though we have our first anatomy practical on Friday.

Good luck interviewing and let me know if you have any questions about anything.

Well, maybe they will let me know quickly, since I am Early Decision. Good Luck!! on the Anatomy practical! I know a couple of PT students that help TA Anatomy.

I don't remember getting asked by my interviewers why I wanted to come back to SC, but in the meet and greet, one or two questioned why.

oh ok thats not soo bad then.

ive been lookin at the sc interview feedback and have seen q's like "why you leavn a succesful career" and stuff so i guess i just let my mind wander a bit.

is it bad to say that i want to practice medicine in inner city (in California because that is where I'm from) because of its advanced technology, ever changing scientific discoveries and the variety of medical cases I would encounter as a physician? I feel like most schools want to train physicians to practice medicine in rural areas, where I dont think I would fit in. I have been used to living in the city and the busy lifestyle...

What do you guys think?

I don't think schools are looking to train people in rural areas, exactly... they recognize that people are going to have different interests and there's a need for doctors in the city (serving inner-city populations) as well. We're having a shortage everywhere.

I think state schools like USC, though, want to train physicians that will practice in the state. So if you say you want to practice in California, they may look less favorably on your application.

Ok. I guess I had some bad info then.

Any idea on the turn around time for follow up after the interview for ED folks? Waiting on word this time is going to be worse than those 30 days waiting on my MCAT score.

we need to bulk up this thread..lol im tired of comin here and seein my post first on the page. 😉

good luck to those interviewing this week!

I have heard USC makes decisions rather quickly. I would expect to hear something the next week. According to the ED process, schools have to give you a decision by 10/1. Whether you are in or going into the regular pool of apps and eligible to apply to other schools.

:xf:

in some earlier post somebody said that when you got to the financial aide info session and go on the tour the committie is actually meeting to discuss you...so you could very well find out anywhere from the next day till april..but usually within a week

I don't know anyone who has previously applied to USC as an early decision applicant. However, I know a couple of current M1's at MUSC who applied EDP and both were informed of their acceptance on the first of October last year.

For real. Waiting 32 days for my MCAT score was brutal. Another 15 days of waiting post-interview is not something I'm thrilled about, but I don't think it will be as bad this time around.

i wait for no one.

Really? I wasn't aware there was an upside to EDP when I chose to do it...

Excuse my sarcasm. The point being made was that the only firsthand EDP sources I know (both MUSC) received their decisions exactly on the deadline, not beforehand.

well its not really an upside is it? if you dont get in you have to apply late to all the other schools

Just interviewed. More laid back than I imagined. Basically, tell me about yourself and what makes you special. Then, went over some stuff in my app. More trying to get info about me as a person to present to the ad com. Nothing out of left field.....I didnt even get an ethical question.

Everyone is really nice and helpful. Anyone about to interview has any questions just ask.

Time to wait!! Patience is a virtue, lol!!!

I am with you on the waiting. Hopefully we hear back quickly.

did they give you a timeframe....oh and how many people do you interview with..like how many other applicants were there?

No not really. I know they meet right afterwards. ED apps are supposed be told something by 10/1. Accept or hold. USC usually tells you something sooner than later.

There were 15 of us.

I counted 18 of us when we made our introductions prior to interviewing.

Got an invite on 9/14 for interview on 10/28. In-state. Who is coming with me? 🙂

Oh no!! I spoke with Dr. Ford today because I hadn't heard ANYTHING from their office since my primary was submitted in JUNE, and she said their records show that they sent me the secondary "a long time ago." I should have called earlier to figure it out, so that was my bad, but some schools were waiting on my MCAT scores, so I thought that's what they were doing. But this is frustrating! I'm behind the curve, and it's not even my fault! She said she'll get the application people to check on it tomorrow. 🙁 Hopefully they'll just send it to me again, and I can submit it ASAP!

And you guys will seriously hear like on Monday if you're accepted. If you're not accepted, you'll hear when they can officially release the information.

I really hope you're right. Looking at two October interviewees from last year's thread who had the same interview date: one got a phone call on Tuesday after the interview and other didn't find out 'til they checked their mail on the Wednesday after . . . so I'd keep an open mind even if we do not find out tomorrow.

Anyone notice USC's new website? BIG improvement!!

Interview invite OOS submitted last week... That was FAST!

I'm scheduled for nov. 11

Count me in for 2014 too! I'm definitely excited.

The food is pretty good. Really liked the broccoli casserole.

Isn't it AAMC illegal to have notified anyone at this point? I mean, I wouldn't mind if I were in y'alls position, but really? Can't they get put in AAMC prison or something for this?

🙄
