Wow thats really cool that they would take the time to do that. Best of luck!

Out of curiousity what sort of advice have they given in the past? Im going to be applying this summer and it would be nice to know what sort of things they suggest

The first year they told me to get some more medical volunteering experience. So I've been volunteering at my local hospital since then.

The 2nd year they told me that I interviewed poorly and that I need more clinical experience (i.e. more shadowing experience). I did some more mock interviews to improve my interview skills. I also started a shadowing internship at my local hospital.

Well the good news is that today I was accepted by MUSC college of medicine! Since MUSC is my first choice, I'll withdraw my application from USC. Good luck to the rest of you 🙂

I received an interview invite on Monday. One step closer...

Anyone else interviewing on Dec. 16th?

This has the potential of being an awesome Christmas gift!

Question - for post-interview decisions right now, what are the possibilities? I was under the impression you were either accepted or put on hold for the time being (waitlisted but not really). Is it possible to get rejected post-interview right now?

Did you interview on Wednesday by chance? Just saw you got accepted on your MD apps and was wondering how quickly you found out.

I interviewed on 9/23 and was accepted on 10/19. I'm asking on a friend's behalf.

To answer your question, they said they just accept or put on hold until ~March, when they create a waitlist. My biggest confusion is why they meet right after your interviews, but do not tell you for weeks. What is the hold up between this meeting and actually getting an acceptance notice?

So there's no rejections after the interview for now?

To answer your question, I was under the impression they let people know pretty quickly after they interview. It was a while before I heard because of the AAMC's October 15th rule. However, I thought people usually find pretty quickly. Some people find out the following Monday, my most recent friend to get a decision heard two weeks after her interview day. How long has it been for you?

According to what I remember no rejection for now.

I interviewed last Wednesday (yes it was only 3 days ago), but I figured if they already met then I would have got a phone call. Maybe I am just paranoid since this is my top choice.

You get a phone call/e-mail if you're accepted, and a letter in the mail if you're put on hold.

if you are accepted, you should here something Monday or Tuesday.....or the letter will arrive a few days later saying you are in a holding pattern....🙁

Interviewing next Wednesday 12/9... a little nervous, second time around, already got put on hold at MUSC, and I really want to get in for 2010! Any tips or helpfull advice for the interview?

Thanks!🙂

Thanks for the support! I'm excited about the interview and I have a very deep passion medicine... hopefully it will come out tomorrow =)

Thanks for the support!🙂

I think my interview went well!🙄

And now the waiting begins...

So from what I've read if you're accepted you get a call or email within a week (after the interview) and if you're not accepted, it's a letter that comes in the mail a little after a week. Like the next Thursday.

Right?

I heard before I really woke up the next morning. I think it depends on Shelley's schedule that week.

That's not necessarily true. I called Shelley yesterday to check my status and she said they haven't gotten any acceptances back from the last 2 weeks. She said they will wait until after this Wed interviews and then make decisions. She also said that the associate dean has to meet with THE dean before offers are made so that's why sometimes it takes longer. Just depends on their schedules. So....keep your fingers crossed! Good luck!

Just called 5 minutes ago and talked to Shelley and she said exactly what USCMDPHD said.... They have not made decision for the past two weeks worth of interviews and should be sending offers this Thursday and Friday. If you don't hear anything they'll send a letter in the mail Monday or Tuesday saying you've been put on hold.

I was getting a little anxious because I hadn't heard anything but I don't know if this is better. I mean if they are making decision out of the past two weeks and this week's interviews that is 45+ candidates... of which less than a fourth of that (11 or less candidates) will get an offer.

This makes me suspect they could choose to offer more position to candidates from one interview day as opposed to a few offers from every interview day. Which makes me feel I might have a more difficult time getting an offer.

However, the reality of the situation is that I don't know how their admissions process really works only that about one fourth of all the candidates interviewed gets an invitation and that they usually hear back within a week of the interview.

So... Goodluck to all! I have my fingers crossed!

Well, that is how they were rolling earlier on.

Yeah, I imagine it does depend largely on what they have going on.

:luck:

Does this mean if you do not hear tomorrow you did not get accepted (i.e. are they calling us or something?)

Sadly yes.

From what Shelley said anyone who interviewed during the month of December and was accepted should have heard back yesterday or will hear today. I did not hear back yesterday and have to admit I'm getting more than a little anxious.

Did anyone hear back yesterday????

I am so nervous! It is 1pm and I have not heard anything yet. We have until 5 today, though right?

I just called and Shelley is out today. I asked the lady that I spoke with, since Shelley is out, will we be hearing anything today and she said we probably won't hear anything back until after the holidays. Anyone hear differently?

Yes!! Dr. Ford called me at 2:48 pm and left me a message to call her back. I called back 30 min later and found out the good news! I was so excited that I couldnt even talk to her or sound remotely coherent!

Very Nice, when did you interview?

Everyone assume if you did not get a call today you are on hold?

I interviewed on December 2nd. I don't know if u should assume ur on hold bc Shelley was out today so they may send more out Monday. Good luck!

Congradulations 2014wanted!

I interviewed December 9th and have not heard anything yet. I'm going to call the Shelley again on Monday and see what's going on.

If I had to speculate (which I often do to reamin sane) I would say since they were making decsions on 3 weeks worth of applicants, the people who interviewed on the 2nd will hear/have heard first, the 9th will be the next to know, and finally the 16th.

That's what I'm telling myself at least...

Makes sense. And I'm telling myself the same thing.🙂

Hoping for the best!

Thanks for the support J DUB!🙂

Has anyone who interviewed December 9th or December 16th heard back? I tried calling the admissions office this afternoon to ask about my status and no one picked up. I guess it's because Christmas is this week and they might have the week off.

I called today, she said all acceptances were given out Friday and if you did not hear then you are on hold and would likely hear an update in March. However, I was under the impression they review everyone at each meeting so maybe you could be accepted sooner???

I asked about this today and she said no. If you do not receive an acceptance following your interview, then basically you go on "hold" until the end of the interviews. After that they make the wait list and you will be notified IF you make it (depending on your interview score). Basically, if you are on hold after your interview, the best you can hope for is wait list. I know MUSC does review files at each meeting, but USC apparently does not.

This board is "dead". Does anyone have any updates on interview invites, interview feedback, acceptances, holds, etc?

I interviewed yesterday, think it went well. Second time interviewing at USC so hopefully the results are better for me.

I received a letter yesterday inviting me to interview with their scholarship committee next month. One person gets awarded a scholarship worth $20k/year and 2-3 people will get full-tuition scholarships. They didn't say how many people they're interviewing.

The letter was written on the 13th and postmarked on the 15th.

PROMPT

Are you a legal resident of South Carolina? If no, list any significant ties to the state of South Carolina (2 1/2 lines)

Hey everybody, I'm planning on applying to USC for the 2011 class. I'm OOS (a Texas resident) but I was stationed at Ft. Stewart just outside of Savannah for several years. Does anybody know if this would be enough to be considered a significant tie to South Carolina? Thanks in advance!

I wonder if they would be more likely to give it to someone who feels USC is the best match for them or if they would moreso be going after people who would be heavily considering somewhere else?

Best of luck on the interview! (If you get it would you go for sure or would it still take some decisions?)

Me living in Columbia two years at the end of high school (I moved away right after high school) was enough of a significant tie for them to accept me.

O yeah, i'm super excited. I got an interview on March 31...I guess i'll be the last person they interview for the year. At least I got something I guess..... 😎
