2009 western university..anyone yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have just called the office and they said, they are pretty much done calling people for Feb. interview, unless if a spot opens up then they will call more people...lets cross our fingers for March...🙁:xf:

March 14. They should be calling people anytime soon. Hopefully sometimes this week! :scared::xf:

In my opinion, the interview went well for me. I was a part of Group A with interviews at 8:45. The originally planned interview was due for 20 minutes of interviewing and 10 minutes of questions, well mine went well over 30 minutes, and I was actually late for my essay portion. I talked to a Dr. Nguyen, really nice professor.

The P1/P2 students were really helpful in answering questions, and making everyone feel at ease, overall, I like the school, environment, and the experience.

If you don't mind, what is your gpa and stats krazy?

I was group B. It enjoyed the interview experience very much~ I had a faculty member and a 4th year student interview me---the school and environment are pretty calm.

I don't think my interview went as well as everyone else. It's not that my interview was bad but I really had trouble understanding my interviewer who had an accent. Student interviewer seemed nervous during the interview which made me feel a little uneasy.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't have a presentation from the original presenter but Professor Nguyen did a great job.

I really like this school. I want to go there even more now. The students are really nice and the area is not as bad as I had pictured it to be from the posts I've come across here. The campus isn't a large campus like the usual university but it's not like we would use the other parts of campus if it was larger. We would spend the majority of the time in our pharm lecture halls. Soooo please please please Western adcom, please accept me into your pharmacy program!!

when i read multiple post about the school's environment, i was kind of scared that it was "ghetto", but the environment was not bad at all. the pharmacy lecture rooms are well equipped and i can't wait to hear from them!

Yes, the ghetto-ness is highly overrated. There is far worse. Hopefully you get good news from them! :xf:

Yea, I thought the location of the campus was creepy based on what I heard at that time until I attended their Info Session. Although I didn't recognize the campus from the first look, the interior (i.e. offices, lecture halls, etc.) was nice. I'd have to say that the USC area is considered ghetto.

anyone received invitations for the march interview?

I haven't received a phone call or an email from them yet. Let's keep our fingers crossed! :xf: Western is my top choice because it's just too close to home (the 57 freeway will take me straight to school).

Has anyone started to look into housing? Is it too early? Any recommendations from current Western students?

I have done some research via the western website: http://www.westernu.edu/xp/edu/students/students-housing-apartments.xml
there are some nice apartment complexes, but some are expensive (Helix). Still waiting for the banweb access for the rommmates... :luck::luck:

When and where do we get access for finding roommates? What else have you heard about the Helix? I heard recommendations to live a little bit north of the school. Nicer area I'm guessing?

I agree, for student housing it is relatively expensive...well, compared to grad housing at the UC's! haha $1440 for a 1B/1B is ridiculous.

Any one know about when our Financial aid package will come? I am worried about loans in this economy.

When I spoke to the FA office they said that we should get info about the loans we are offered closer to when school begins. As long as you turned in your FAFSA and file your taxes, I wouldn't stress out too much. That's pretty much all you can do for now. =/

I think they should have started calling people already, since it's 2 weeks away from the 3/14 interview. Now, I'm getting a bit worried. :scared:

bleh my hopes of staying in california especially in so cal is slowly diminishing :-🙂mad:

Honestly I don't think they will send out invitations to interview until next week, and most likely after they start accepting people from the last interview (aka the latter half of next week). That seemed to be the trend with the last two cycles. Most people at the February interview said they were called just a couple days before, so be ready!

yuppp! i had one week notice =]....good luck to those for upcoming interview! patience xD

Is there a writing portion during the interview? If there is one, what are the possible topics? How do I go about to prepare for the writing? Please give suggestions.

Thanks a lot

Honestly you can't really prepair for the writing sample. As long as you know how to write a standard essay, you will be fine. I don't think it's fair to tell you what I had to write about, especially since ppl from the last cycle haven't been told if they are accepted/rejected yet. Good luck with that!

the writing sample is random. just be prepared to write a well structured essay~ you have 40 minutes

So is there anyone receiving interview invitation for Mar?

Hello all,

Just wanted to provide some information I got....

I called the office a few days ago, and spoke to someone to clarify things about people who were placed on "hold" after the interview....and I just wanted to confirm with her, that my understanding was that, only accepted and 'holds" were given out, and holds will be looked at after the last interview block in March....and she said, they are actually sending "not accepted" letters as well....I was scared when she told me that...because I thought I didnt have to worry about getting any news till after March 14th, but looks like, after the second round of interviews, they have been sending out "non-accepted" letters too 🙁 But, they have not sent out ANY alternate letters out! 🙁 Which I think kind of sucks cuz they made our hopes up when they said they were going to do that this year at the Dec. 6th interview... 🙁 Oh, well, I guess it is what it is, and hope that we get the accepted letters that we all want! 🙂 Best of luck to everyone and myself! 🙂

has anyone recieved interviews that submitted their application in november?

How do you know letters are being sent out on March 7th? I know they said between 2-3 weeks but not the exact date? I thought we receive notice through email and then snail mail...

Hi,
If you were interviewed on Feb. 21 and if you are accepted, you will receive an email on Wednesday Morning (Mar. 4), say 9-10am. This has happened with the Dec. 6th and Jan. 24th interviews. I received my acceptance on Wed., Feb. 4th, after my Jan interview. Hold letters are sent out March 7th (I think). Good Luck!! Check your emails this coming Wednesday!!

At least you had an interview at UCSF. There's some hope for you that you may get to stay here in CA. Even though I haven't received my rejection letter from USC yet, I only have Touro and Western left to have hope on.

Good luck to everyone who is expecting an invite for the 3/14 interview...and those waiting to hear back from 2/21 interview! :luck:

aww man, now im gonna wish i didnt read this!

I wish the best for everyone. I only applied to two schools, UOP and Western. I haven't heard anything from UOP so my only shot is at Western. I hope I get the good news on Wednesday or else a year will be wasted.

oo man.. this week is the week we find out about interviews :-( nerve wrecking

I called and they said that they were interviewing people in the 3.0-3.1 GPA range and that they will also be making calls this week for the upcoming interview.

i didn't know they had a range that they interview in per interview dates~ do the dates correlate to gpa in descending order? like first interviewers had higher gpa than second interviewers?

If that's true...I wonder why a friend of mine with a 3.5+ gpa didn't get an interview at all.

Maybe the average range was 3.0-3.1 for the February cycle, but I have a 3.5 and I didn't interview till then. Guess I should have submitted earlier!

westernu doesnt just look at gpa, but at the whole applicant as a whole. they look at volunteer, work, questionaires, personal statement, lor, etc. but applying early does help--but one of my friends who applied in oct w/ a gpa of 3.3 got an interview 2 years ago...so you never know.

Has any one get the phone call today for an interview yet?
