Are you going on Wednesday??? Me too!! I'm super nervous...it's my first interview. I don't think anyone will hear anything until October 15th...they aren't allowed to accept anyone before that if they are regular decision. The EDP people should hear by Oct. 1.

Mine is coming up soon as well.

Anybody who already interviewed care to comment on your experiences on interview day?? 😀

I interviewed early decision on the 15th and no one that I talked to that interviewed with me has heard anything yet, and neither have I. They are apparently taking their time this cycle.

They were really really laid back. They really do a lot to make you feel comfortable and calm. The interviews were simple...I actually had the dean of admissions for my first interview, and other than why medicine and asking me about my (abysmal) MCAT, it was just a casual conversation. I just tried to convey my passion, and hope he saw something in me. My second interview was with a lady who had just joined the admissions committee, and I was her second interview ever, and it just felt like I was talking to my new best friend. "Cookie Time" was kinda awkward and stressful because my second interview was in the library, and it took a little while to walk back, and by then everyone was already talking to someone, and I felt like I had to butt into conversations to be able to talk to anyone. Other than that, I loved this school because of their emphasis on a family atmosphere, and how nice and friendly all of the faculty and staff seem to be. They really want the students to have support, and be happy.

Awesome. Good luck to you I know you're glad the interview is over! I love this school too, can't wait for my interview.

Good luck to everyone applying this year! I'm a 4th year now and will honestly say I've enjoyed my time here. The family atmosphere that is conveyed during the interview day is the real deal as the administration and professors are very, very focused on the medical students' education and overall experience. The ultrasound curriculum is very good, very applicable, and the clinical years are great as well. I chose USC over MUSC and, looking back, know I made the right choice for me.

No matter where you end up, you get out what you put in. Good luck

that is so comforting to hear! Glad your interview went well. I have heard USC SOM is not crazy about the numbers; they are more focused on the personality/entire package. Or at least I'd like to believe considering my not-so-hot-mcat score..haha
Good luck to everyone out there interviewing soon!

I know some of you guys were early decision, any acceptances today???

Don't they HAVE to know by today? Like, legally? I'm pretty sure that is the case. Maybe there just aren't too many early decision people on SDN.

I think they do, you're probably right. I just wanted to see if anyone posted an actual acceptance yet.

Hopefully I can post one on October 15 😀. I really really liked the atmosphere of this school when I was there.

thanks USCguy for sharing your experience.
Do you have any idea the current year's stats for the interview invite?
thanks

This might be a silly question, but they are still just looking at in-state students right? I ask because I'm OOS, but with some close ties to SC.

They are. I would wait a few weeks to hear anything. Good luck!

If you have close ties, definitely apply. They do accept a bunch of OOS students every year. With that being said, USC does have a very strong IS preference. Good luck!

any thing happening in this thread?
any one would like to share interview experience?

Cool thread bros. Such a dead thread...

Agreed, but if anyone's like me then talking about the acceptance decisions or interviews only makes the wait seem longer. I'm on the edge of my seat here waiting for tomorrow to come while trying not to get my hopes up too high.

This waiting game is killing me!

Agreed, I jsut wanted to hear someof the ED people go ahead and say if they were accepted. I can't till tomorrow!

Does anyone know how many interview dates there have been already? I wonder what the odds are that those of us that already interviewed could be accepted tomorrow. I think the number is going to be small...the dean implied that it would be. He said if we don't hear back on the 15th not to be upset because they want to get an idea of the whole applicant pool before giving a lot of acceptances. But it would be awesome to just be done with the whole thing tomorrow....ugh. I am also going out of town tomorrow so this week has been ridiculously long. It is so hard not to get your hopes up about it though. I have been telling myself I probably won't hear tomorrow, but that little tiny voice keeps saying, "but what if you do!!!"

The wait was killing me and I just couldn't wait any longer! I emailed Shelley yesterday and she said they wouldn't be making any offers until Monday due to the Oct 15th AAMC traffic rule that states offers be made AFTER Oct 15th....UGH!!! Another weekend of waiting!!!!! Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!

Good luck all!!!!!!!!!

I can't decide if this is good news or bad news! I had such a faint hope that my wait might be over tomorrow. THANK YOU though for sharing this. I, for one, really appreciate it!

Has anyone interviewed by Dr. Catalana in Greenville? I am going up there next tuesday and would like to get a feel a what the day was like. The following day I will be going the SOM for an interview just fyi. Thanks for the help!

I don't know of anyone that was accepted from an early decision interview, but I have only talked to a few. I interviewed on the 15th as well and was early decision. Those I have talked to were "deferred" to the regular admissions pile.

I'm not sure what is going on, but I do know that the admissions committee seems to be completely "freaked out" by the new DO school in Spartanburg. However, I would think that if they thought that another school may eat up their applicants that they would offer more acceptances sooner and not be quite so picky.

DO schools require a HUGE deposit that you cannot get back; even if you cancel early and decide on another school. So my logic is that when applicants start getting acceptances from the DO school and pay the deposit, USC can kiss them goodbye. This will probably bring down USC's numbers this year. You can also include me in this pool. Once I pay a $1000 deposit that I can't get back, I'm out; I have no intention of playing the year-long bureaucratic game with these people.

This is interesting, hadn't thought about that.

Also, after interviewing at both MUSC and USC, I would have to expect that there is a TON of movement on USC's wait list because I would expect about half the people they initially admit will turn them down for MUSC.

Does anyone know how they contact people with decisions? E-mail? Phone? Has anybody heard anything?

OK.... officially freaking out today! I beg of anybody who's gotten an acceptance, wait list, or any communication from this school at all today to please post and I will do the same. My patience (and nerves) are running so thin. PLEASE PLEASE post if you hear anything!!

I haven't heard anything either. Will they definitely be contacting us with some kind of info today?

Last year they sent out acceptance emails on the Monday following October 15th. Also, a previous poster said they contacted the admissions office who confirmed that they will be contacting people today.

Woohoo got in! My first acceptance, and it is such a good feeling. I interviewed last Wednesday.

ACCEPTED!!!!! YAY!! YAY!! YAY!!
:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Good luck to all other applicants:luck::luck::luck:

Congrats to all other future doctors :highfive:

Does anyone know if they give them all out at the same time? If we didn't get an email yet, is that it for the rest of us?

Are they contacting everyone today, or only those who get acceptances?

Are they contacting everyone today, or only those who get acceptances?

Last year it looks like they emailed acceptances and snail mailed everyone else a couple days later.

Accepted 🙂

I don't quite have the excitement surging through my body like I expected I would, but thats probably because I'm hungry, sitting alone in a hotel room, waiting for a flight after a day of interviewing, lol

So if you didn't get the acceptance e-mail today you aren't in? I interviewed on 9/15 and haven't heard a thing yet today.

I thought they would still call/e-mail this week if you are accepted, or was today the only day you could hear if you already interviewed?

With acceptances rolling out I know people are super anxious to get one so I just wanted to say that I do not think today was the only day for acceptances. I think other applicants will receive their acceptance email soon too so don't give up hope if you haven't heard right away :xf:

I'm a bit late applying, but I haven't gotten confirmation that they even received my primary. How long after submitting your primary did you all get a confirmation, if you even got one?

Thanks and congrats to those of you accepted and interviewing!

Thank you for the encouragement. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'm probably waitlisted. It's ok though, I know it's still early in the season. Just the idea that the wait might have been over yesterday was SO tempting! Oh well. Congratulations to everyone who did get accepted!

accepted on monday! interviewed 9/15. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Has anyone heard any news on whether USC is still planning on expanding the medical school into Greenville for the class of 2012

It is done deal. They are opening for next cycle.

any one please share the stats of accepted students?

I was OOS and interviewed 9/15, but I still haven't heard anything. I'm sure since it's getting to be that busy time, they might not look at OOS till later now, but I wouldn't worry because even though I had lots of shadowing/research experience, my GPA was pretty mediocre and my MCAT was low.

I just got the "based on the overall score the committee gave your application, we can't offer you admission right now, but your application will be actively reviewed until March" letter in the mail. Is this essentially a rejection? Does anyone know of people that have gotten in after getting this letter?

I don't know if anyone else heard this at their interview, but they told the first two weeks of interviewees that in 2-3 weeks they would either tell them "yes" or "we're still thinking about it" after comparing to the first few pools of interviews. They also said that when they say they're still thinking about it, they "really are still thinking about it." So I don't think it's essentially a rejection... I haven't heard anything so I'm guessing I have one of those letters when I get home today...
