Wow. Thanks for the break-down! 😀

I really hope they have an OOS and a separate IS waitlist. I would think that the OOS waitlist would move pretty fast, especially considering how expensive USC's OOS tuition is.

I emailed today and they made it seem like there IS and OOS waitlists are different lists. I don't want to bother them again since I already called, but if someone else would like to ask when they call to find out where they are on the waitlist....

OK, since I am a member of the Instant Gratification Generation, I asked.

There are two separate waitlist. IS and OOS

Just called and spoke with Dr. Ford--I'm in the top third. Scared the heck out of me when it took her a while to find my name. I did ask if she could give me an idea of odds, and her response was basically "pretty good."

Here's hoping!:xf:

Thats good news!

I think I might call next week. Did you just straight out ask her what third you were in?

I am very confident that the top half of the wait list will get in. I know me and a couple of my friends plan on withdrawing pretty soon so at least u know for sure there will be movement. Good luck everyone. USC is a great school 🙂

I just asked where I was on the waitlist. She explained that they would only tell which third someone was in, and told me mine.

I <3 you nessa!

Where are you going, may I ask?

Thanks! I will call on monday... hopefully I am in the top third.:xf:

I decided on MUSC...it was a very hard decision but in the end I got to get some distance btw me and the fam and usc is unfortunately way too close to them lol

How do you know that? I have seen "middle third" and "bottom third" answers as well.

I highly doubt it. Anyhow, the class has actually been full since December of this year. What I'm trying to say is that if you know anyone who has been accepted... "take care" of them so that you can get bumped in.

Why would you say the class has been full since December? That is untrue. There have been plenty of people accepted (not waitlisted) that interviewed in Jan, Feb, and March.

Because people declined their spots? It does happen you know. Herp derp.

If people are declining their spots then the class is not obviously not full. A full class implies that no more acceptances will be given out during interview season. You can't say a class is full simply because they have given out 95 acceptances. That is a useless statistic.

A full class means that more than enough acceptances have been given out to cover the spots. Anything else that comes along is because someone dropped. I'd say 95/95 is full. Once you get 94 they send out another... Seems full to me???? OMGGGGGGGGGGG

You are a useless statistic.

That's actually not how it works at all. You really don't know what you are talking about. In early March they had more than 120 outstanding acceptances. Its not a system where they wait for one person to decline before admitting another. They admit way more than 95 based on past years numbers. Its not true that one of the original 95 has to "drop" to get an acceptance after December.

Also your attitude is atrocious and I pray you are not one of my future classmates.

I heard that they were trying to break 100 for 2015, so there should be 5 spaces left (95/100), unless there have been more people not accepting their offer.

My mistake sir Westphal. 95/100 is surely not full. I apologize for my inadequate research prior to making my argument.

As a current student I pray that you are relegated to some lowly position as an untouchable sanitation engineer in India.

Alas, you did mention that there are more than 95 acceptances out there. That makes the class OVER FULL. The ratio 120/95 is slightly larger than 1, no? Please check my math. I attempted (a failed attempt at that) not to confuse you earlier.

Sounds like someone needs a hug...

They tell that to everybody. Time to start filling out that AMCAS again
Naturally I'll be filling out AMCAS again if I don't hear anything by June 1st. Gotta prepare for the worst.

For all you people that are on the wait list, what were your GPAs and MCAT scores? I'm looking to apply this summer and was just curious. Thanks

I just got the "based on the overall score the committee gave your application, we can't offer you admission right now, but your application will be actively reviewed until March" letter in the mail. Is this essentially a rejection? Does anyone know of people that have gotten in after getting this letter?

If you don't mind sharing, what was your gpa, mcat and number of volunteer/shadow hours? Thanks

Well I'll be glad to share mine: 10, 8, 8 MCAT; 3.75 gpa; 4+ years clinical experience/shadowing; interviews went very well (at least I felt they did); didn't get secondary in until end oct/beginning nov (what NOT to do). 🙄 So even with a lower MCAT I was told I was in the top third of the alternate list and an offer would be "very likely." I personally feel USC looks more for the entire package, not just the numbers!

Best of Luck next year when you apply! 👍

... an offer would be "very likely."

Do you think they based that on where you were in the top third, or just based on the fact that you were IN the top third? I was told the same thing (just that I was in the top-third), but I'd love to know if I'm at the top or closer to the middle.

I assume that was just based on that I am IN the top third. That line was followed with "... because last year we made offers all the way into the middle third." USC is one of the few schools that gives any idea to where you are on the list. I am almost certain beyond saying what third they won't tell you anything else... 😕

Call me a naive optimist BUT I see no reason not to be incredibly hopeful ... if movement is TYPICAL we should hear back (whether that's in May or July is another question)! :xf:

Sorry, but you were fed a line of BS. They did not make offers all the way into the middle third. Both my friend and I were in the top third of the waitlist last year and neither of us got acceptances. We are, however, accepted for this year!! 🙂

Well Congrats on the offers THIS year! And thanks for sharing. It's quite interesting... I wonder why I was told (verbatim) that's what happened?! OH well, still hoping for the best 🙄

If 145 total were accepted and only 83 were enrolled then 62 students were accepted but did not go (~43%). Thus, I would conclude that around 62 (this is an estimate) students were taken off the wait-list.

If there were 100 on the wait-list and 62 got in then there is a roughly 62% chance to get in off the wait-list...which is not bad at all.
Hey guys, was just browsing the threads of my state schools and saw this. I just wanted to comment that this isn't how they do admissions. As others have somewhat noted, they make more offers than they plan on enrolling *before* waitlist movement starts.

I'd guess that far less than 62 people were accepted off the waitlist, but it still has relatively high movement. I knew a few people who got in after May 15th. Good luck!

Hey Steeler, if we were told that we were in the top 1/3 of the waitlist, what do you think our chances are of being accepted? I know it varies from year to year, but what is your experience?

However, you are IS and there are separate waitlists for IS and OOS. It makes sense that movement on the two lists would be separate as the lists are separate.

I'll most likely be withdrawing my acceptance in a week or two, so hopefully it will go to someone anxiously waiting their first acceptance!

I'm not sure. I know of one girl who was pretty much told straight up she'd be accepted immediately when waitlist movement started, and she still didn't get in until early July. That either means they can't predict their waitlist movement well or that the top 1/3rd is very large. I have no concrete knowledge though, so take this all with a grain of salt.

I do think MUSC is at least a little more desirable to IS applicants, so there's probably relatively more waitlist movement.

I interviewed in late Jan and got accepted a week later. You comments are just rude and mean. We have all at one point or another found great comfort and/or tips on this thread.

Good luck to y'all on the waitlist. It is not over until it is over!

FWIW, I've tried to pull off Lenny's look before- with the open shirt with the chest hair and the tight pants. For some reason, it just never works out for me. Le sigh. I bet if I would have shown up to my interviews in that getup I wouldn't even BE on the waitlist. I would have been offered an acceptance and full scholarship on the spot. Considering going that route next cycle...
