Hi! I recently got into both Tufts and UMass and it seems most people end up choosing UMass over Tufts (because of the money). I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and chose Tufts over UMass. Basically, money and location aside, which school is a better choice?
Of course Umass if I were you, unless you have too much money to burn

what is the difference between deferred and waitlisted? the email specifically said that this is not waitlist..

How do we update them? Can we email the admissions office or is there a formal update procedure?

Check your emails from Tufts, but normally you can just email updates to the admissions dept. I don't remember if they have any special procedures for communication, but if they do, it will be in their emails to you.

Just got the acceptance call. Interviewed 12/15. I am grateful and thrilled... Loved this school!!! Never got the contact info email though.

So for those of us who are planning on going to Tufts, is there like a social network site where we can meet each other? I don't want to walk in my first day not knowing anyone!!! haha 😱

Wow so early?? Well then... nervousness commence :scared:

Yes, perhaps some kind of collection of words and pictures online where we could interact and meet, like a college face book, but...online! Lol, just watched The Social Network, sweet movie.

I got a call yesterday (1/10) at around 12 hearing about my acceptance. I interviewed 1/5. FAST turn around.

Congrats, you must have really impressed!

Oh boy this is gotta be one of the more stressful ways to get a decision: nervously waiting by the phone as hope slowly ticks down. Way too many teenage romance flashbacks, why won't they call?!?

Bahahaha so true.

So if we interviewed in early December and still haven't heard anything, do you all think that's bad news? Were there any decisions other than acceptance sent out yesterday?

Ya I interviewed 12/1 and haven't heard anything. I wonder if more acceptances will go out or what else is happening.

If you looked up "emotional roller coaster," you'd probably find a description of the med school application process. I was driving home from work last night in the depths of despair, convinced that Tufts had passed me up. After jumping out of the shower this morning, I checked my phone and noted a missed call + message from the 617 area code. I was heard to be uncontrollably repeating "oh my god, oh my god" as I tried anxiously to get into my voice mail. Accepted. Don't lose the faith!

Interviewed 12/1.

I also got the acceptance call this morning! Missed it but the dean left a voicemail....Interviewed 12/1!!!

congrats everyone!!! My stats are 3.94 GPA 30 MCAT strong ecs. I wasn't suppose to hear until mid Feb, I think it was accelerated because I was also accepted into Maine Track and the timing was just lucky. Hang in there everyone!

Does anyone know how much of 3rd and 4th years Tufts students do off-site? As in, roughly what % of rotations people do outside of Boston (enough to have to make out-of-city living arrangements for a few weeks)?

does anyone know if Tufts will be sending out any more interview invites this cycle?

Yes, they are still sending them out. I got an II this week, and when I went to their website to schedule it, there were dates available all the way through the end of February. For reference, I was complete 10/5. Good luck! :luck:

I was complete 9/30 so hopefully I'll hear something soon...

Hi everyone! I didn't read through all 12 pages of this thread but I was hoping someone could answer a question for me... on the online application it shows that my application is complete... but I have not received an email of completion from Tufts. Is this the standard?

Thanks for your input! <3

Hey, they do actually send a complete email, but it takes a little while for them to process the application. I submitted mine on 8/7 and got a complete email 8/31. I'm sure the wait time is different now, but just don't be worried if you don't get the email right off the bat.

Deferred 🙁
Does anyone know how Tufts' deferred process works? Do you continue to look at your application at every committee meeting until they reach a decision?

+1. I also got an II this week, and I can confirm that there were dates available through the end of February. Submitted mid-Oct, complete mid-Dec, II mid-Jan, scheduled for mid-Feb.

II 1/10! I was complete late september - I think the 28th. There were dates open through March. Stats are 3.6ish cGPA, 3.4ish sGPA and 32R. Good luck to everyone else and don't lose hope!!

Yo, your mdapps is inspiring! Keep us posted 🙂

I am as well as two of my friends. See you there.

What are the pros/cons of earning the dual degree MD/MPH at Tufts?

What are the benefits of being a physician with an MPH?

I'm so conflicted!! I really appreciate your input!

Good luck to everyone!!

I'm wondering the same thing! Thanks to anyone who can provide some insight~!

I did learn from a 4th-year MD/MPH that during your first year, you'll be taking MPH classes on Tuesdays, which is normally a day reserved for reg MD to explore shadowing, research, volunteer opportunities, so she said if I felt like I'd be missing out on that then the MPH schedule might not work for me.

A senior member of an ad com interviews a nontraditional medical school applicant and the give-and-take appears to be going well. The interview was supposed to last 30 minutes, but the interviewer brings it to a close after 20 with the statement, "Well, Jim, you are an unusual applicant and XYZMS is an unusual medical school."

I'm dying to find out what, if anything, the interviewer meant by the early termination and those enigmatic words.

+1, for the MBA program. I never imagined myself getting an MBA until I heard the presentation on interview day. I really don't have much relevant experience and so I am finding the application essays really difficult! I can't decide whether or not to apply to the program. I'm worried it will detract too much time/effort from my regular MD courses and, should I later want to apply for a competitive specialty, I'll be kicking myself for doing the MBA instead of giving the MD my all. Can any current students chime in??

Complete since mid-August.

Any chance for a II?

OOS, 32R, 3.85cs, good ECs

Enigmatic indeed... Guess you'll find out soon enough, though if I had to guess, that sounds kind of...good, doesn't it?

I had similar/lower numbers and had an interview!
Keep your hops up sir/madam! Good luck!

Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked, but I'm too lazy to look, do they like/accept pre-interview updates of grades and interest, etc?

Got a "after a thorough review subsequent to your interviews, the medical school Admissions Committee has deferred making a final decision on your application"

Meh.

If you don't mind, what are your stats like?

sounds good to me, too. perhaps the interviewer didn't need any more information to make his/her decision.

I sent both and received an II a couple weeks later, if that helps. I'd go for it, it can't hurt!

Thanks!

Has anyone who was deferred early in the fall heard anything yet? I interviewed on the first day (Sept 15th) and was deferred in October. I'm trying to get an idea of what the timeline is like for deferrals.

Thanks!

As far as I know, I dont think they accept pre-interview updates, not so sure though! Might want to call them and check!

I sent in a pre-interview update last week and they confirmed receipt of it.

(Not sure if they want it or not though! 😛)

was deferred on Dec 15th..trying my best to get their attention on my application, sent them an update letter, another recommendation form a doctor i shadowed..i dont know how helpful that is going to be, but i wanna show my willingness to attend this university!
looking from last year's thread there were only a couple SDNers who got off this list and into alternative list who finally got accepted..

i had called them earlier about the difference of deferred vs waitlist and they said that our application is still actively being considered at this point (I am sure though they are just lying somewhere in a file) and we will be asked to let them know whether we want to be considered for waitlist or not and then we get off waitlist..!
and i thought interview was the last step in the process! too much waiting in the med school application cycles!

Actually I believe they do accept per-interview updates. I sent one in (though mine was because I'm in Tufts' SMP and wanted to update with grades). They prefer hard copies if it's a lot of pages. And I don't know whether they like it or not but I think mine was a big reason I got an interview invite.

Good luck!

Well, there you go! That answers your questions op!
Sorry for the confusion!

haha Thanks everyone.

Gotta love that every med school does things differently. Keeps it simple haha 🙂
