Looks like the second batch of acceptances have been released. Any fortunate recipients? I was not one of them.

No luck here either. Really sucks because I interviewed in September. Thank goodness for my interview next week; it may keep me sane for a while. Will find out at that school before UNM.

"The University of New Mexico School of Medicine (UNM SOM) would like to inform you that the Office of Admissions has accepted the top ranking applicants through the second wave of the rolling admissions process. Applicants accepted through the rolling admissions process have been notified of their acceptance by email, followed up by an official letter sent by U.S. postal mail. Please refrain from calling the UNM SOM Office of Admissions to find out if you have been accepted through the rolling admissions process. The Office of Admissions staff will not disclose the admissions status for any applicant over the phone.

For those who did not receive a notification of acceptance through the rolling admissions process will be hearing from us on their final admissions status in March. All final admissions status notifications will be sent by both email and mail by Thursday, March 15, 2012 in accordance with the Association of American Medical College (AAMC) deadline.

Please contact the SOM Office of Admissions if you have any additional questions that we may answer for you. "

Those of us whom didn't get in have 44 more days of going crazy:scared:!! Congrats to those whom got in!

Do you guys know if the final admissions offers go out gradually or if there will be a big wave right before the March 15th deadline?

It's just one large wave. You admission decision will be accepted, waitlisted (no rank provided), or rejected. They usually wait until right around March 15.

They will also inform you if you are a candidate for PrEP. Some people are in interviewing for PrEP the week after next, does that mean they are done interviewing for regular admissions?

Right around March 15...? I'm hoping we are all fortunate and hear a week or two before that. I guess I can hope, right?

Last year they were informed on 3/09/11 and the year before it was 3/11/10. So if that pattern persists, lets hope for 3/10/12!! #hopeful

I assumed UNM would begin interviewing for PrEP after notices were sent March 15. Are those interviewing this early applicants that didn't meet the minimum cut-off?

I dug up this old post with PrEP info. Mrs. Smith interviewed in April.

Those who are interviewing this month are the ones who didn't make the minimum cut off in one of the 2 cognitive areas. Those who interviewed and still got decline but are being considered for PrEP get interviewed late march early April.

Spoke to admissions, the earliest we will find out is 3/13/12. I personally will be waiting for the 15th. It is going to be a long 34 days!:xf:

Thanks for the update. Most likely the 0312 or 03/13 is the final committee meeting. Perhaps I will leave my iphone at home those days so I am not inclined to constantly check my email.

For some reason I find that unlikely. I know that I will be checking constantly on starting 3/13 :scared:

So, I guess this means we'll find out during Spring Break? At least we have an idea when we'll hear back 🙂

3 weeks to go!! This wait is painful!! BTW they will interview 8 applicants from this regular admissions cycle an 12 whom were lacking in some area for PrEP. 20 students interviewed for 7 PrEP spots.

I don't understand the purpose of the PrEP program. Why take under qualified applicants?

Who knows, but I would imagine that maybe one or two from the pool of 12 would get an offer. Could be mistaken though.

keep your hopes up the final board meeting is the 12th of next month so can't really happen before that

True, but it was also posted in late-Jan that the secretary said we would hear within 3 weeks concerning the second round of rolling admissions, and we heard back about a week later. So, we'll probably hear back at or around the 12th, but who knows what the real information actually is. 🙂

At this point waiting an extra 1-3 days does not matter. They really should start true rolling admissions. I had a friend interview for UNM OT program on Saturday and she found on her decision this week. Talk about quick turnaround.

^ definitely!! That's a nice turnaround!

^^I wish that were the case. At least we know what date we will be finding out instead of checking or e-mail and postal mail box frantically without having any real idea of when you will find out.

Hopefully I will be able to join that group in 2 weeks!! Congrats to those of you who have already received acceptance. What is everyone doing to kill time for the next 2 weeks?

Hopefully I'll join that group 🙂 tons of stuff to do (midterms, abstracts, etc) up until the 9th. Spring break and good news (hopefully) cant come soon enough!

Good Luck to you all, hope to hear from you guys soon:luck::luck:

Next week at this time the admissions board will be making there final evaluations!!

I'm surprised the admissions office divulges that kind of information about the process to applicants. No complaints here, though ;-). One week left.

I wish we could know our rank after each council meeting using our AMCAS ID, that would be really cool. Is it just me or does it seem like time is moving slower as we get closer to knowing our status?

Yes! Every day feels like 48 hours right now... even with midterms haha

Is it just me or did your heart skip a beat when you saw that email this afternoon?

so if accepted, do anyone think we will receive the certiphi email before the actual acceptance?

Last year, my friends that got in were first notified by email in Wednesday, March 9. The ones that were rejected found out around the 15th.

Well if there is any pattern being followed from last year, we should hear within the next couple of days. However, if the last committee meeting is on Monday, I would suspect otherwise.

I agree, no earlier than Tuesday (though I wish it were earlier)

I think it might be bad news for those of us that haven't heard…. I talked to 2 people in my classes yesterday and both received their letters on Tuesday (March 6) for acceptance. I am still yet to hear, and I think they may only have the rejection letters to send next week if we are going off of what the thread above me says. I have decent stats, but I'm not sure if it was good enough to make the cut. I'm expecting a rejection letter next week, not to sound negative 

Here are my stats for reference, if everyone would like to share theirs also, we can get a feel for if what I've heard about the letters on Tuesday were actually the final acceptance ones: (Hopefully not)

SGPA: 3.78
Overall: 3.83
MCAT: 25
Strong clinical experience for 2 years working at a clinic that sees an underprivileged demographics, participated in research for diabetes and was published, volunteered in Mexico for past 2 summers working in clinics.

I think that's for those accepted the first week of February via email that are getting letters now. Didn't those accepted in December not get letters till late January?

Would you mind asking those people if they were accepted in the rolling admissions batches? Otherwise we will all start freaking out.
