Hello! I have some questions about the prep program. I was wondering if any previous prep scholars who are medical students now can help answer some of my questions?

Is New Mexico done interviewing? I have not gotten an R or an II or a hold yet.

So far only 2 people have been moved from the waitlist to accepted. Does anyone no how fast it progressed in past years? I’m wondering if this is a very slow start or if past years started this slow too.

based on MSAR, it seems like typically 25 people are given an offer from 50 waitlist positions - to be fair, a lot of waitlists start moving in may, after the 4/30 deadline

They are up to #7 on the alternate list. Best of luck to everyone on the WL as we enter the final stretch!

They’re on 14 on the waitlist today! I’m number 22, and unsure of how it usually progresses the rest of May. Anyone have any insight on what trends usually are the next weeks?

From what I have seen; this week should have some movement as other waitlists have had movement and people will be shuffling around like musical chairs, then I think it slows down again while the slower schools trickle out their admits.

I wonder if the lack of movement is due to the fafsa delay, maybe there will be more late may
That seems to be the concensus in the general waitlist thread. I just want to know if I have to find/deposit on an apartment in a different city 😩

Hey y'all! Congrats if you've heard back and hope you're getting excited for the summer. I'm a current MS-1 and paying it forward from last year's thread. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions about the area, housing, the program, etc. Best of luck!

Anyone else feel like student affairs is a mess. If weve been accepted for months why only in the middle of June tell us that we have no later than the first week of July to complete inperson trainings required for matriculation.

Or why tell us only recently that we cant bring more than 2 guest for our white coat. Tell us this stuff as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

I haven’t even heard this. Did they email you?

Yes it seems to be a rolling email as a couple other accepted applicants got the email a few days before me.

It states we have until july 7th to get BLS certified and get our vaccination records verified by SHAC. As well its "recommended to complete prior to July 1st" HIPPA trainings and compliance.

I agree! I emailed student affairs about the 2 seats because ALL my family is traveling out of state. They just said, "Thank you for your concerns we will pass this email on" 🙃

Still at #16. I'm losing hope friends. 😰😭
Hey!! Rooting for you to get accepted off the waitlist!!

Could I ask how your experience was applying and interviewing here? I am applying as a 1st time applicant and worried as I've heard not many get in the 1st time. I have pretty high stats compared to the median and decent ECs but not sure I'm a great mission fit since I haven't lived in NM my whole life and moved there end of HS. Any tips, suggestions, appreciated.

Would really appreciate feedback, thanks!

I know some first time applicants that were accepted, and I am not from here and am waitlisted (my stats are mediocre at best).
I think it is less important that you have always lived here than that you have a true passion and desire to stay here and help the people. They also like to see dedication through set backs (this why i think they skew towards second time applicants). They emphasize rural medicine and the medical concerns or New Mexicans specifically.
I really enjoyed my interviewers and had a good time having back and forth with them.

Thank you! was this your first time applying to UNM?

It was my 2nd. After my first I increased my clinical experience, researched nm health and history, and took an upper level bio course to better my application (my GPA is kinda trash from being listless during my initial undergrad).

Well, they sent an email saying the class is verified and full. No more waitlist pulls this year.

Anyone currently in prep or going to start prep this year. I am looking for some info, I read on the schools website but kinda wanted to know some facts from people with experience. Whats the schedule like? What kind of experience have you had so far?

Current 1st year med student. Classes started this week. I met 4 people who did prep last year and they broke it down for me. If you give me your info I can get there's so you can ask questions.
