2011 Match

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Where the hell was he when you were referring to DMU as the Harvard of podiatry? I guess he hung you out to dry on that one. Everyone else enjoyed it though.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed that thread. One can always rile up the SDN crowd by simply stating an opinion based on the facts and statistics presented.

Patience. DMU is one of the FEW schools that does not hide its statistics. Official results will be posted shortly.

I'm sure you already know how many scrambled...why wait to post the numbers?

I have no idea how many scrambled, didnt get the chance to ask Yoho about the numbers. Just had 2 exams this week, studying was more important.

But I thought DMU updates their students on all the statistics. You are telling me that Dr. Yoho didn't fill you all in on how many scrambled (a very hot topic during this shortage) but he updates you on pass rates for ABPS?

At Scholl we have 2 exams every single week and we still got updates on how many matched, scrambled, and are still looking for a program.

You are correct, DMU updates the students and public (via DMU's website) of ALL relevant statistics in a TIMELY and APPROPRIATE manner. Dr. Yoho informed us that he will hold meetings with those who scrambled to find any trends or issues that lead to the scramble. Once this is complete, he will reveal his findings AND post the final residency placement results on the website.

First you say you don't know because you haven't had the time to ask Dr. Yoho. Now you blame it on Dr. Yoho waiting on "a timely and appropriate manner"...whatever that means.

Looking back at the previous posts it seems like ALL of the schools have posted numbers except for NY (which I may have missed) and DMU.

I can't believe the students at DMU haven't been told the results after all this time...

Official Results for DMU:

11/60 students scrambled.

Final residency placement for class of 2011 is 98%

Edit: For future reference, information on residency placement can be obtained from Dr. Smith (Dean of Clinical Affairs). Lesson learned, if you ask Dr. Yoho he'll refer you to Dr. Smith.

I wasn't super-impressed with Des Moines' scramble rate (~18%), but to have all students except one matched to a program at this point is pretty impressive. There should be some additional openings on July 1st, so there will be a chance for that student to find a program then.

Thanks for posting the stats Dr. Mushroomfoot.

We as students do not have control over what our schools choose to divulge to the public but we always "hear" about results before it is "officially" released by our schools. I just found it interesting that no one from DMU ever spoke up and it seems like all of you point to the fact that it will be "officially" posted on the website soon. I doubt that you guys didn't know the numbers before this morning. So what's the story...are you guys not allowed to share any info until the administration says so?

I had no idea of the numbers. I honestly never inquired. Keep in mind people still have time to take pass part 2 in may. I know that DMU doesn't talk about part I boards until after the retake.
On another note, if it makes you happy JanV/Anklebreaker, I will "criticize" DMU. I understand wanting to put your best foot forward, but the wording of the statement was "98% of qualified students...." How many were NOT qualified and then were left out? I assume this means people that have not passed part 2, or people that decided they had no chance and were giving up. I would rather see X number out of X + Y students got a residency.

What would be impressive is if every grad could have a residency. This problem is just sad

I would be more willing to agree if you used the term "qualified," since some schools still graduate students who have not passed part 2 boards.

How many exactly?

There are 12 different rotation groups. Four groups have 8 electives before CRIPS. Eight groups have 7 electives before CRIPS. We also rotate at 3 VA hospitals that have residency programs, so some students may have up to 11 programs before CRIPS (assuming they choose to apply to those 3 VA programs).

I have to agree. The schools can't pass these exams for us.

I know we call them "boards", but they are actually licensing exams. As in you can't get a license to practice podiatry without them.

I do think that all who have passed these exams should at least get the opportunity for residency training, and I do feel for those that have passed and still cannot get a spot.

Agreed. DMU definately has room for improvement, hopefully student feedback can address some of these issues.

Update on the DMU results.

98% of qualified applicants recieved a residency for 2011's match

1 qualified student, did not obtain a residency

2 unqualified students in 2011's match
