Anyone get any wait list movement yet? I'm on the middle tier of the list. Realistically, does that mean my chances of getting an offer are slim?

Mid tier here as well. Not putting much stock in it but still hopeful. I think it at this point it is pretty much a crapshoot. In the previous cycle people have been offered acceptance off the mid tier before the upper tier. No telling if it will happen this year. Not holding my breath. Very frustrating indeed when other schools have been offering acceptances since May 15.

hold out hope, bros. literally anything can happen at this point.

Got the fin aid packet in the mail today. Anyone else?

Judging from last year's thread, it doesn't seem to mean much, but at least it looks like waitlist decisions will be out in a few days.

i'm itching to hear something, man. although it's been 7 days since the 15th, probably more silence until next week.

If it makes you feel any better, I called the admissions office today, and the lady said that there's a rumor going around there that offers will be made this Friday. She also said it's possible they may be made Monday. Nothing's guaranteed, unfortunately. 🙁

Thanks for calling and letting us know.

Have any of you on the alternate list noticed a change to your medonestop status? I just logged in and saw this update:

"The Committee on Admissions at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine would like to thank you for your recent visit and interview. We appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and obtain additional information about your candidacy. The Committee has reviewed your application and is impressed with your credentials. Although we are unable to offer you a place in the entering class at this time, the Committee remains very interested in your application and we are going to place you on our Alternate list. Because acceptances are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year, we will continue to review your credentials for further consideration. If there is any change in your status, we will contact you immediately.

We received your confirmation for placement on the alternate list on May 16, 2013"

The last message I remember seeing was a confirmation for the alternate list from early April so this was a recent update.

I have that same message; it's identical to alternate list update I got in October. I don't think it means anything, unless anyone on the alternate has an accepted message at the top now, instead of the alternate message. I love over-analyzing status pages. 😳

My status hasn't changed. It's been the same since I elected to be on the alternate list on April 1. I wonder why it changed for some folks.

+1 got the fin aid packet. Upper Third, IS.

Last three years, decisions started coming out the Thursday in the 3rd week of May.

+1 Mine changed from we received your confirmation on April 1st, 2013, to the May 16. My guess is that it takes a lot of time for them to go through the alternate list and they need to look at the demographics of each candidate for class fit. I agree with NotABrony, keep your head up, anything can happen at this point. Good luck everyone!

how much of the financial aid stuff on medone have you all completed? obviously fafsa is in, but like sending in parents' tax returns, etc? should waitlisted people just wait until they hear anything?

silver cat. my dude. thanks for the update.

So I take it nothing's happening today?

Only time will tell. It's still fairly early in the day.

I'm just assuming that it won't be today because last year's thread showed acceptance emails around 10-11 am. The year before had morning emails, too. It's already 2 PM.

UPDATE: I just checked Medonestop and a decision was posted. Best of luck to everyone!

Were you accepted? If so, congrats! I'm still sitting on the alternate status 🙁

Yep I got an acceptance and it said one was being delivered in the mail as well. Thanks SilverCat, good luck!

I always find the setup of their website fairly confusing. If I'm reading it correctly, the last update I've received was the AL one. Guess no acceptance yet for me either :/

congrats, man. just curious, did they give you a time period for responding?

To be completely honest I think they did but I didn't read it very carefully. I was much too eager to click "Confirm"

Also I forgot to mention I was in the upper third, OOS.

Does anybody in the area know where a good place to rent is?

We're looking for something suitable for a family with two kids. So, someplace safe but affordable near decent schools. A commute of up to 20 minutes would be fine. I grew up in the Dayton area, but I don't know anything about Cincinnati neighborhoods.

I've heard good things about Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout.

Northern Kentucky also has some good areas if you go a little bit south of the river.

I recommend looking into Pleasant Ridge. 15 minute commute, nice neighborhood, and cheaper rent.

definitely look into the oakley / hyde park area. a good deal of hyde park is unbelievably expensive, but there are pockets of affordable homes. really nice surrounding area for things to do with the family as well. i think at its farthest distance from uc, you'd be looking at 20 minutes commuting.

What age kids?

Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout/Columbia Tusculum feed into a pretty good Elementary and are close by. Wyoming is usually considered one of the top school districts in Ohio. Maderia, Mariemont, Sycamore Schools (Montgomery, Blue Ash) are also good school districts. Mason and Lakota (West Chester) are also decent, but are farther out. If you want any more info about any of the areas, feel free to send me a PM.

Norwood is another good place to look. It's very close to Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout area. Some parts of Norwood aren't the best but many of the parts that border the other neighborhoods are really nice and the housing is much more affordable. Mairemont/Fairfax area is also a nice little neighborhood with the cheaper housing being in Fairfax.

Accepted as well today!

Mind sharing demographics and maybe stats (if you want, but demographics seem to be more important at this point in the process)?

  • gender
  • IS/OOS
  • URM/ORM
  • trad/non-trad
  • position on WL

It would help us other WLers get a feel for who's getting pulled off the list.

this trickle of SDNers reporting acceptances from the WL isn't the most reassuring site to see. also judging from waitlist movement across the board, this year may be pretty brutal for wl'd applicants. my two cents.

I hear you, friend 🙁 I went from checking this board several times a day to like...once every few days just because I don't want to hear about all the acceptances 😛 Lol, sour grapes I know. I am happy for everyone accepted though, I can only imagine what that feels like!

yeah, man. despite what could be perceived to be slow movement, there's still plenty of time. definitely feeling like a spoiled, anxious child right about now haha.

So I guess their wait list movement is pretty much over? I've been lucky; it seems like wait lists just aren't moving at many schools this year. So much for top third being a good chance at an acceptance.

I guess I had better make final decisions on housing for next year at another school.

Do we know for sure that waitlist movement is over? I sure hope not.

Do we know for sure that waitlist movement is over? I sure hope not.

I doubt that it will be considered completely over until July, but I presume only a handful or so of people will be accepted from the wait list now.

remember in that e-mail dr. manuel sent regarding wait lists, he said some years they take fewer than 15. although he said the average off the wait list is 35-50, i can definitely can see it being one of "those years".

gotta stay positive though, people! june isn't even here yet.

I wonder why wait list movement has been so slow everywhere this year? Is it just that there has been such an increase in the number of applications?

could also be that schools are really picking and choosing WL'd applicants slowly/steadily to avoid increasing their "accepted/matriculating" ratio. who really knows though? bottom line, it's not ideal haha.

Same demos...

Well congrats! Hopefully there's room for more ORM, OOS, trad males to come!

It seems like mainly guys have been pulled from the alt list. At least, this is what I'm assuming based on the SDN acceptance posts.

called today. they said acceptances went out last week (which we already knew) and that there would likely be more in the next two weeks. also said that they have absolutely no idea how this year is going to be shaping up compared to previous years in terms of how many acceptances off WL. kind of stating the obvious, but thought it was worth sharing.

Yeah I agree that it's stating the obvious, but it's nice of you to share your findings! Keeps me from having to give them the exact same phone call haha. Kind of a bummer they won't give much of a prediction. It would have been nice to hear them say "yeah this year is going slow" or "this year is normal". That way, if it were normal, we would know that [many] more offers are on the way. Oh well. We wait on...

For those who were accepted, where do they put it in your status page? Or did they just delete all the old crap and write: "HOLY COW YOU'RE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!" My page just looks like a huge mess at this point with all the update text they post.

One is 4 years, the other is 4 weeks. So only worried about finding a good elementary at this point. I'll definitely PM you though, thanks.

Hi,

I grew up just north of UC in Montgomery so if you want to know the good schools in the area just PM me and I'll let you know about the ones that are closer to the Medical school and those a little farther away as well. Cincinnati has a good set of schools to choose from.
