Thanks for calling.

Does anyone know if it's true they take almost everyone from the upper tier?

I remember the dean of admissions saying something like "you have a very good chance if you're in the top 1/3" FWIW. Its a good spot to be in but obviously nothing is guaranteed.

I just called, they don't publish that information. They also said that they will tell you which tier you are in by the 3rd week of May.

Last year the tiers were released on April 30th (they don't explicitly say which tier you're in, you need to figure it out from the wording) and the first group of acceptances were distributed May 24th. I'm hoping that it follows a similar pattern this year.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread but:

There are about 85 students in each third. They average 35-50 acceptances each year, with the extreme ends being "fewer than 15" and "exceeding 75". So if you're in the top tier, assuming they don't have to dip into the second tier to fill demographics, you have about a 50% shot of being accepted (if ~42 are accepted).

Does anybody know if UC has any sort of md/mph program. From what I can tell from their website it doesn't look like it but maybe one of you has a bit more info.

Refer to the previous page of this thread..the answer seems to be, no there is no joint option, but it is possible to get an MPH elsewhere

I'm pretty sure at the interview they said 255? or was that last year's data?

And I emailed Dr. Manuel. He said they'll rank the list by thirds the first week of May

UC does have an MPH program, but there is not a joint program. They would most likely let you take a year off to complete one if you so desired though.

Can anyone remember (or any current students comment on) the curriculum that was discussed at the interviews? I know they mentioned that UC has a systems based curriculum, but is it similar to OSU's in that you do anatomy of each system alongside the classes for pathology etc for that system over the first two years? Or is anatomy done in a block? Also, were the clinical rotations in first year twice a week or am I remembering that wrong? That seems like a lot compared to what other schools had.

Thanks!

It is a systems based curriculum. The order will most likely be someonething along the lines of First Responder->Fundamentals->GI/Endo/Repo->MSK->Summer->Hem/Onc/Rheum/Cardio Renal and Pulmonary/Brain Mind and Behavior. Anatomy is done with the different blocks, so your first dissection will not be until January. The LPCC class where you spend time in a primary care office takes place 1 afternoon every other week. Time wise it is all very manageable.

Anyone know when we are supposed to receive financial aid awards?

Anyone know when we are supposed to receive financial aid awards?

I believe the financial aid papers said everything was due May 1st and we'd get financial info by May 15th.

Second Look told us if you have everything done by May 1, you can expect it May 10.

I've had my stuff in since Early March and I have to make a decision regarding another school by May 1st, so getting it May 10th doesn't really help me. Bummer.

I wonder if I explain this to their office, they will put together my package sooner.

Hi Everyone! I wonder if any current students could help advise us about housing. 🙂

Below is some info about some areas. I just wrote about areas I have lived or looked into living near. I'd be happy to comment on any other areas people may be considering or providing any specific questions about areas. Also, if anyone has school age kids, I'd be happy to comment on some of the other suburbs in terms of schools and what not.

Near campus
South of campus(Corryville)
Stetson square - expensive but nice inside and very convenient. There are 2 apartment buildings as well as a group of condos and town homes that are part of this complex.
West of campus
"Gas light" Clifton is fairly popular as well and is a bit safer than Corryville is.

Suburban areas
Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout/Oakley/Columbia Tusculum
Popular area for young professionals that has lots of good shopping/restaurants/bars 5-20 minutes east of Clifton. Rookwood Commons is a nice outdoor style mall. The properties tend to be a bit older and less updated for the price. There are some condo's available for sale in the area that are very affordable if you or your family have the money for the down payment.

East Walnut Hills/O'Bryansville
There are some nice apartments/condo b/w Clifton and Hyde Park for reasonable prices.

Mt. Adams
Great area, but expensive. It is where a bunch of bars and restaurants are located.

Urban living
Along Vine between central and 14th is a popular area in downtown known as the gateway district of over the rhine. I'd say the people currently living in the area are a mix of yuppies and poor. Its an area that has great restaurants and bars.

Downtown also has some apartments that provide easy access to the downtown nightlife.

Northern Kentucky
Newport
There are some decent places around Newport on the levee, but I haven't spent much time in the area.

Rental Companies
Uptown Rentals is good company to rent from in the area.

An M1 this year had major problems with Rent Clifton so if your thinking about renting from them.

Cincyrents is another management and leasing company I have used and had good success with.

Towne properties has aparments for rent. I have been happy with their management of my condo's hoa so i'd assume they are decent with their apartments.

Grandin properties is another reputable rental company.

There are also lots of other privately owned/rented properties that you can find by driving around or on craigslist.

i'm on the same boat as you eggs13.
called cinci's financial aid office and she told me that they can't put together a package earlier.
wondering if you got a similar answer from them?

I never ended up contacting them. I got my financial aid from the school I will be attending and that was enough to push me over the edge to go there. I withdrew from UC a few days ago.

Try contacting your May 1st deadline school and asking them for an extension until just beyond May 10.

Finally got up the nerve to withdraw today. We've all worked so hard to get accepted that it feels somehow ungrateful to turn around and reject a great school!

Hope this opens up a spot for someone awesome. I'll miss you, Cincy! Thanks for showing me love...

Has anyone who will matriculate to UC completed the "UCCOM Professional Code of Conduct"? I tried finding it by following the link within our application manager - it says that it's under the "Applicants" tab on the medonestop portal, but I can't find it?

I know that the UC Supplementary Information form will be available 5/1 - is this the case for the Code of Conduct form also?

Any help/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks

That is the way I interpreted it yes. I haven't found it either.

Can any current students talk about what an average day is like during M1/M2 year? Things like how many hours of class per day, when classes start/end in a day, etc. It's been quite a few months since my interview and my memory is getting cloudy.

m: weekly assessment at 8 or 9am followed by the exam review and maybe 1-2 hrs of lecture
t-f: lecture and gross lab 9-12 or 8-12 depending on which block your in
One afternoon per week is a 2 hour learning community and 1 hour of clinical skills
Every other week, one afternoon of longitudinal primary care clerkship in a private practice primary care office somewhere in Cincinnati. This begins in January during the first year and goes through april of 2nd year.
There are sporadic 1-3 hour ipex sessions total of about 10 b/w the first two years.

Oh and none of the lectures require you to be there in person. Everything is live-streamed and recorded using Mediasite.

Thanks for responding! That's what I basically remember from my interview day but all the information from different schools started getting mushed together in my head after a certain # of interview days...

So with the exception of the learning community, clinical skills, longitudinal clerkships, etc, you are essentially free after 12 PM on most weekdays?

Does anyone know where we can get the slides of the curriculum that were shown at our interviews? I wanted to see what subjects we studied and when.

A little sad to say that I withdrew my acceptance here. Cincinnati would've been great but I'm choosing a school that's closer to my family. Best of luck to you waitlisters - hope one of you gets my spot! 😳

I'm withdrawing as well, feels weird. Silly question though - I thought there was a "withdraw app" link on the web site but now I don't see it. How did you go about withdrawing?

Oh, I just emailed the admissions office... didn't realize Cinci had a different way of withdrawing. Haven't gotten an email confirmation yet, but just sent it in recently, so if I get an email I'll let you know what they say.

I'm sure you did it the right way - I'm pretty sure I am mixing up UC's site and another school's site, thinking it had some withdraw link. Thanks for your help!

Is anybody else having trouble with the medonestop login? The interface looks different and I'm unable to log in to the system 🙁

No problem, and just wanted to update you that I did end up getting a confirmation email from them.

I tried after I saw this message and I was able to log in.

Anyone on the wailist get a letter recently about your spot (tier) on the list? I thought those were supposed to go out before May, as they have the past few years.

Last year was after May 15 (the only hold one acceptance date) as I assume it will be this year.

Yes I understand acceptances are granted after May 15th. I was referring to the letter that indicates what tier you're in. Last year it was sent April 29th.

Just got the alternate list status email- I'm in the upper third. How many people traditionally come off of the upper third? I assume they must have around 150-300 people on the upper third.

I'm in mid tier as well. Very frustrating. Do they ever make it into the mid tier with offers?

They do! Here's how it works:

  1. Decide what demographics they need to fill (female, URM, IS, non-trad, various other demographics)
  2. Choose the best applicants that fill the demographics. If they need 20 IS students, they select the top 20 ISers on their list, even if they have to dip into the second or third tiers. Same goes for all other demographics. You are a superstar if you can fill multiple demographic needs 🙂
  3. After picking for need, they determine how many spots they still need to fill with any type of student
  4. Fill those spots will the best students available

I would harken it as similar to the NFL draft. Sometimes a player is selected based on the team's need, while other times players are selected because they're they best athlete available. No matter which reason you're accepted for, you were accepted and that's all that matters in the end 😀
