That was actually kind of fun. Who else was in the early group with me today? I almost broke out with a "where ya SDNers at?" during lunch but decided against. I know some of you were there 🙂

Loved the MMI. What a relief to not worry about selling yourself vs. sounding full of yourself, etc. If you have this interview coming up, don't stress about the MMI. Focus on communicating and defending your opinion, and you will be fine.

+1 I actually thought the MMI was less stressful than other traditional interviews and now kind of wish more schools did it! Haha

I'm glad it went well for the two of you! I've attended two interviews so far and thought about asking about SDN on both occasions.. didn't go through with it though.

I'm already incredibly stressed about the MMI and my interview isn't until next month! I hope I come out of it feeling like you guys.

I'll agree. I was really stressed about it too, especially since it was my first interview, but it was pretty painless and the time went by so quickly!

There was only 1 scenario that I didn't like...It wasn't hard and I don't think I did poorly on it, it just wasn't enjoyable to me. I know at least a few people who did like it so I think it just depends on the person, but it definitely seemed to be the most polarizing station.

I'll be there tomorrow, too! First interview so a bit nervous. I'm in the earliest group. Is the MMI at the beginning or end of the day?

@foster033: We are MCAT twins, and we have the same age and the same hometown 🙂 That's interesting. I guess we might pass by each other tomorrow. But I'm in the 7:45 group (ugh).

Good luck, everyone.

I didn't see this until today, I thought it would be a good idea to ban myself from all interview related stuff the day before.

I'm glad your day went well, I enjoyed it, too. Would love to go here....really hope the next 3 weeks passes quickly!

Do they give a timeline for the decision? I know Oct 15 is the first day.

I've tried banning myself from SDN, foster033, but I don't have the self-control. Maybe I could try to say something totally off-the-wall and get someone else to ban me. Haha.

It's cool of them to put us out of our misery quickly, letting us know in three weeks! And Dr. Manuel was really open and accessible about their admissions process, which I appreciated a lot.

Lots of reasons for me to go to UC, so here's to hoping, too. Good luck.

Yes. Dean Manuel was extremely open about what will happen after the interview day. He even gave us the exact days that the committee will be meeting about us, what day they will vote, etc, and said to expect to hear on this day (for us, Oct. 15), or, at the latest, the next day before 5 p.m. He told us that day we would get an admission offer, a waitlist spot, or "that other decision no one wants to talk about" (rejection). I found UC to be very open and specific about the decision timeline so at least it's not one of those that drags you on in limbo for months.

Wow that's really great! What day did you interview?

Friday (Sept 21). He said a few of us might get reviewed on Oct 1 and the rest on Oct 8, and we would all get a decision on Oct 15 or 16.

If you have any questions about MMI (of course, can't share actual questions but I'm sure we're allowed to talk about logistics, and I can tell you how I prepared) or Cincinnati, feel free to PM/ask me.

II Just now!!! Sent an in the area on Friday, really fast turnaround. Complete 7/24, IS

Accepted today through EDP! Pm me if you have any questions or need any help.

He also said that for these early interviews, there's a ~70% chance of receiving an acceptance!!! SIIIIICK. And Dean Manuel is awesome, he was so funny and just cracked me up.

The MMI was incredibly fun, and the interviewers in the rooms are very encouraging ... there was never a moment of awkwardness or silence, and the interview format literally made me feel like I was in a game show! I wish every school could have MMI's!

P.S. They do NOT provide breakfast!!! I assumed that all medical school interviews would... but I was left hungry 🙁

Anybody who is interviewing Oct. 5th staying at the Holmes on Eden Hotel? I have no idea is this hotel is nice or is garbage, but it was only $50.

Does the 70% acceptance apply to those interviewing Oct 5th too?

Probably....the dean just said that early in the interview season they accept everyone they like without really worrying about how they fit the demographics they are looking for (age, IS vs. OOS, etc). Around Jan. when they have already accepted a lot of people then they start to be more selective, there are fewer acceptances and more wait lists handed out.

I wouldn't worry about the exact percentage of acceptances too much, you're still early....good luck on your interview!

Hopefully having it 11/9 still keeps those odds favorable :xf:

It is not nice at all, but you are 30 second walk to the medical school.

For those who have stayed at Holmes on Eden Hotel, did you guys call or email to make the reservation? If emailed, how long did it take for them to confirm the reservation. Thanks!

I wanna go here. BIG TIME.

Any OOSers with 32Q 3.6gpa receive interview invites yet?

I'm getting antsy!

My email bounced back, so I called.

Yes. But I happened to be in the area, so they were very accommodating and reviewed me earlier. (Thank you Cincinnati!)

I'm pretty sure the Radisson and the Cincinnatian do, and probably several other hotels in the downtown area. The Radisson is actually in Covington, KY, but it's literally right across the river...both hotels are maybe 5 miles from UC.

There is a mariott on the medical campus. I don't know how expensive it is but it would certainly be conveinent.

Does anyone know how receptive Cincin is to receiving a thank you for the interview letter? My pre-pro advisor at Hopkins said it is annoying, and not to send them.

Huh. I've written one to every one of my interviewers. They are taking time out of their busy days to do this.

I can't imagine why it would be annoying....No one will force them to read it. If they find notes irritating, they can always just toss them in the trash.

I also highly doubt someone would reject an applicant because of the "annoying" trait of sending a thank-you. 😉

I agree that I doubt it will affect your admission either way. However, at my MCW interview last week, both interviewers specifically stated that they prefer people do NOT send thank you letters, since they just wind up being a pain in the ass for them in their busy schedules.

Cinci might be different though.

I wrote one to the dean since we had the MMI format and often didn't know the interviewer's full names. I also felt particularly grateful for his explanation of the admissions process. I was raised to say thank you when someone took the time out of their day to do something for me.

I also wrote an update letter, which might have a tiny effect on admissions, to the admissions email. I highly doubt that my thank you letter will have any effect on admissions, which is okay, because that's not why I wrote it. (I wrote an update letter for official consideration. I wrote a thank you note to say thank you for the time you've already dedicated to me.)

I hope that this is not an "annoying trait," also. If they don't want it, they can throw it away without reading it. I've been working out here in the "real world" for years 🙂 and thank you notes are pretty standard practice between polite professionals.

I interviewed here today. actually just got home from the 5 hour drive. holy crap, this place is amazing. the campus is absolutely beautiful. The MMI was the last thing we did and it was pretty much stress free and kind of fun.
