I wrote one to the dean since we had the MMI format and often didn't know the interviewer's full names. I also felt particularly grateful for his explanation of the admissions process. I was raised to say thank you when someone took the time out of their day to do something for me.
I hope that this is not an "annoying trait," also. If they don't want it, they can throw it away without reading it. I've been working out here in the "real world" for years 🙂 and thank you notes are pretty standard practice between polite professionals.
That's how I feel. I wasn't planning on writing one to Cinci, only because we did not know the interviewers. Good idea to send a general one to the dean.
I don't think it will have an effect on admissions. I do think that if I were an interviewer and received one from a student who ended up attending, and I found myself interacting with him/her, I would already have an impression of that student as being polite and well-mannered. That's probably personal, though. I am very much old-school about manners. 🙂
