you guys waiting on any other schools or accepted elsewhere?

Already been accepted to AZCOM like rcheech has. Just waitin on UNM for the final decision. Either way I'll be a physician which is nice.

Did you guys bring anything on the day of the interview? A small notebook, pen, etc.???

My first interviewer was scrolling through my Work/Activities and asked me a few questions about questions about my Work/Activities listed on my AMCAS, so I recommend you look back over everything in case it has been a while.

I didn't feel like I was asked any tricky or difficult questions except "why should we accept you here?"

Did they hint to any of you guys when the adcom was meeting? They just told my group "in a couple of weeks"

My friend who was at my interview day (I didn't hear anything because I got there in the afternoon) said they were meeting at the end of the month and will be sending out the "highly qualified" peoples acceptances the first week of November.

Gotcha. So if you arent one of the "highly qualified" i guess you are waitlisted? They seem to be doing this weird. When are you thinking about turning in your matriculation deposit to azcom? Im thinking first week of december myself.

No, they will send out the second wave to most people in March. After that I assume there will be some sort of waitlist.

As for AZCOM, I don't know. I just got accepted to UNE and I really liked the school. So I have a lot to think about. Either way I will be sending a deposit (if I don't luck out with UNM in a week) at around the first week of December.

Wow congrats! I wish UNM did it like these other schools. You are accepted, waitlisted or rejected right away and KNOW your status. From what I gathered from them, if you arent selected as a top candidate you dont really hear from them for awhile. It leaves far too much guess work for me. I would like to know my status as early as possible so I dont have to drop multiple acceptance deposits....oh well, cant win them all!

Yup, because with AZCOM if we don't hear till March the second deposit is due in February. Which means $2000 down at AZCOM before UNMs second wave.

They said they would meet yesterday or today. Can't remember exactly which one. They will likely select one or two from this meeting

And I was told the same thing at my interview. But other people on the same day were told completely different things. 😕

6 days until the first wave potentially comes out :scared: :xf:

It's interesting they are only taking a couple. Last year rolling admission didn't start until Dec and they took 10. Maybe they are plucking the rest of the EDP applicants? In any case, good luck!

One of my friends who interviewed the same day as me got his acceptance today!

:scared: Hopefully there are more coming soon :xf:

Good luck everyone :luck: :luck:

My friend who interviewed 10/11 received his acceptance today as well. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit jealous!! 😡 I'm really happy for him though!

But oh well!! All we can really do right now is to wait and hope for a good news!!! :xf::xf: Good luck to all of us!!!! 🙂

Yup! I guess we will see what this week will hold! Hopefully more acceptances!! :xf::luck:

On a Sunday? Weird...anybody from 10/8?

I find that quite odd as well. I guess they really want to majorly surprise their future MDs by giving them the good news on a weekend. Don't know anyone who interviewed 10/8. Sorry man.

Still quiet over here maybe they won't be sending anymore out for awhile.

I'm sad that UNM doesn't accept LOIs because I really want them to know they are my #1

UNM, Y U NO LIKE US!?!? Hahahaha

Ugh Dreading having to wait til March now.

I'm still holding out hope for another wave soon. Hopefully before 12/15 :xf:

Yea we are in the same boat. Nice to already have an acceptance though. Otherwise I would be freaking out hard.

Yeah, I just don't want to leave NM and be in debt $300,000 🙁

UNM show us some love!!!!

Right? Just thinking about that debt makes my face numb haha

Wish I could say I was the one at the 10/11 interview that got accepted :/

Maybe we'll hear something later this week? I haven't heard back on any of my secondaries (sent most of them toward the end of August), so I'm feeling all kinds of anxious either way.

Did you guys send thank you notes to your interviewer? A med student during my interview day told us to send thank you letters. I don't have any problem with this. I liked my interviewers and I genuinely wouldn't mind sending them thank you notes just to thank them for their time (and being easy on me!). Not sucking up, I swear! But since this is SDN, I've read posts about how it could only do damage and it really depends on the school. Any thoughts about the "sending thank you notes" culture at UNM??

Hey, quick question. How was this ascertained? Does this also apply to updates? I think I read something about this but I thought it applied to the waitlist.

It does apply to updates, at least that's what it says in the email I got back.

"Unfortunately, we do not permit any updates or amendments to applications and application materials. Thus, I'm sorry to say that we do not forward letters of intent on to the Committee for review."

They told me that in person during last year's cycle. I wanted to update them on my grades and they told me that they only look at what's on you AMCAS. So yep, no updates or LOI's.

So how about them Lobos?!? I can't believe we beat UConn, even though it was a sloppy game on their part. But still, 4-0 is promising considering how young our team is.

I saw that! Crazy good stuff from UNM.

I cannot say that the Aggies are doing as well 🙁

Ya but they have been close at least. Plus 1-3 this early is salvageable.

They've been competitive the last couple years in basketball so there is a shot haha. But ya, born and raised New Mexican here so I know not to bet on them turning it around.

Applied in the middle of September, interviewed 11/1. Accepted 11/20 (the next time the admissions committee met). 😀

Did focus on practicing in rural New Mexico during the interview. Also asked a lot of questions concerning research opportunities, learning medical Spanish, and if we would be able to have other health professionals learn with us (it is after all one of the best ways for us to fully comprehend how to utilize their professions in the future). 32Q MCAT, 2.98 uGPA, 3.47 MS GPA. 6 years research, 3 years firefighting/EMT, third try (first at UNM). Sent thank you letters to my interviewers (thanked them in a way that reflected some of the things we had talked about, including praising PBL) and Hollie for facilitating everything. One family member lives here, but not sure if I qualified for WICHE, or "strong" NM ties.

Would highly recommend thank you notes, and not just to the people who interviewed you 😉 .

Best of Luck!
:luck:

I have already accepted the fact that I will probably wait till March to hear at this point.

Same, Although I interviewed close to the 20th so I'm still holding out hope. During my interview they said that they would still be accepting around 15-20 more people during rolling admissions.

Hey guys!

Interviewed 10/8, just playing the waiting game now. Thought I would stop by and join the conversation.

I felt that both went extremely well! Yeah, can't wait till march. Was really hoping for a rolling admin spot, oh well : /
