Well this thread really slowed down...😴
Yup, I think from now till March, acceptances will be quite scarce. 😴

Well they only take 50 people for the waitlist.
I mean thats quite a few considering how many applicants they have. Basically this is how UNM seems to be every year.
~200 IS applicants, ~200 interviewed, ~100 matriculate. If they WL 50, that's nearly a 75% chance to get accepted or WL 😱
Yeah I was on it last year. Hopefully my MCAT increase will give the needed points to get in this year!
Much worse! I improved my application this year. Really hoping it was enough. This is where I am. The waiting game is worse the second time around![]()
Anyone hear if they're going to do a big round of acceptances this month?
That would be nice. Have they done that in the past?
They have, but they didn't do the "rolling" stuff they have been doing in the past.
The rolling stuff may mean that wave doesn't happen anymore![]()
Hello Everyone 🙂
I have noticed that a couple of people have applied to UNM more than once, and I am curious the reason they didn't accept you the first time. I am applying in the fall.
Thanks!

I was wait listed in the past. All they said I needed was a few point increase on my MCAT. I gave them an 8 point increase this year. Hope it was enough : )
I was told to get higher grades in some upper level science courses and get some more recent shadowing experience. They flat out told me not to worry about the MCAT. Did both, on top of publishing research and leadership experience.
Let's hope to hear some good news in March, AFVet07!
Thanks!
Did you do any volunteering in the hospital? I am trying to figure how to manage my time between shadowing, volunteering, and studying for the mcat this semester
Hello, I was waitlisted but didn't get in because I had a pretty low MCAT. Make sure you do well on it (ie around a 30). Which prep books/ courses are you using to study?Hello Everyone 🙂

I didn't volunteer at a hospital, but I did a lot of volunteering elsewhere during undergrad. I'm sure you'll figure out a way to manage your time soon enough.
I have the exam kracker books right now, and I am planning on going through them 2-3 times. I ordered the Burkeley Review last week, so I should get them early Feb, and then I will start those after I finish EK. I'm pretty motivated to study by myself, so I'm not sure if I should take a prep class or not haha How did you prep for the mcat? Also, did you buy any practice tests other than the AAMC ones?
Thanks 🙂
I would really consider going through a prep course. Although everyone is different I studied on my own the first time I sat for the MCAT with disappointing results. I took the Kaplan online course and completely dedicated myself to their process and was very pleased with an 8 point increase this year.

That seems pretty good, I didn't take a course but did have to take the MCAT twice (completely screwed up the first time, both study wise and during the test). I used the exam kracker 1001 question books more than the aamc tests and really liked them (the tests are important though since they are structured identical to the real exam and let you know what it will look like, how to navigate the interface, ect.). Check craigslist, you can usually get cheap used mcat books on there.
As for the prep course, it depends on how you study. If you're able to study for a couple hours a day and not slack off or only study a little, then I wouldn't take the course. If you are unable to do that and want a more structured study plan then the courses are great I hear. I just couldn't bring myself to spend 1500-2000 on a prep course. I would also take the test early, either may or june if you can, that way if you need to retake you'll still be able to take it and apply that cycle.
Hello fellow UNM applicants,
I haven't posted for quite a while now. I'm trying not to think about med school as much as I can since I'm having a bad cycle. UNM is my only hope right now! Well actually that's all that matter to me as UNM is my top choice. I'm just really hoping for a good news from them soon!
For those who already got accepted, congratulations! For the applicants like me, hang in there! Don't lose hope! We will all get through this! 😀
Happy New Year to all! 😀
P.S. So UNM hasn't send out acceptances last month, right? Who knows when was the last time they sent out acceptances and when will they send the next ones? Thanks!
A friend of mine got his acceptance in early December. Although he had just interviewed.
I don't think they've sent out a December wave this year. The big wave should happen in March
And then possibly up until July. Hopefully not, but who knows. Staying busy certainly helps with waiting.
Until July? Whoa...that would suck to be accepted that late, especially since by then I will have pretty much completed the matriculation process for another school.
So I was looking at the 2011-2012 thread and it looks like another wave of acceptances could go out on Jan. 31st. After that, we have to wait until March.
I hope this is true.
Although one of my friends got an acceptance today, so hopefully my friend wasn't part of that wave. My friend interviewed towards the end of December, might just be from their normal 1-2 per day rolling thing.
Thats probably the case. From last year it looks like they accepted about half the class by Jan 31 and then the rest came in March. Its weird that not many of us SDN'ers have gotten in.
I hope this is true.

rcheech7, I feel like we have the same friends!
Whenever one of my friends gets an acceptance, the wait suddenly kills me! 😡 Gotta stay busy till March! Although, it would be really nice if I get an acceptance soon so I can truly enjoy my last semester as an undergrad.
Definitely possible! We might even know each other lol, NM is a small place!
This wait is killing me too![]()
How are all of us New Mexicans doing?
Counting down the days till 3/15 here.![]()

Me too. I seem to get more nervous as the days go on. Plus the Ravens won yesterday which was the worst way the season could finish (Pittsburgh fan here 😀).
Does anyone know how concrete the 3/15 acceptance day thing actually is? I don't remember being specifically told that date, but maybe others have.
