I am not entirely sure, but according to past years I think they go out by both snail mail and email, possibly dependent on the applicant. I also believe rejections go out via snail mail. UND's entire application cycle basically occurs between mid-November and mid-January, so it should be pretty quick.

Just got my interview invite via snail mail. It was post-marked 11/20. Nothing via e-mail.

Congrats! Maybe it was your letter I saw 😀

Was your date assigned or did you get to pick?

Surprised they're still mailing interviews, though I suppose it adds a personal touch and their pool should still be relatively small.

Good luck to everyone!

Would "rejection" and "interview invitation" letters be mailed at the same time? Either way everyone who applied should be receiving a "letter" very soon, correct?

Received invite yesterday via standard mail.

It gave one interview date, and you are asked to RSVP to secure your spot.

Also came with a letter which gave you the option of having a current med student pick you up at the airport, show you around campus, lacquer your loins...wait, scratch that last part.

Goodluck to all

You were the reason I skipped down the hallway to my mailbox this morning (didn't check my mail yesterday 😛) Nothing for me yet…fingers crossed!

Now that we are hearing about interview dates, does anyone know anything about the types of questions they ask? I know the letter mentioned a few areas they touch on, but if you know something more specific, that would be great!

Make sure you update with your own feedback after your interview. It's a big help to people in the future to see what it's like and is a way of giving back for people sharing this information with you.

I think i have a good idea. Ill post my thoughts later tonight when i get home

The things that UND is looking for in my estimation:
They want to make sure you're interested in preferably rural family med at least somewhat. this isn't to say that you are immediately thrown out if you aren't, but it is their mission. all that stuff is probably pretty easy to figure out what they will ask you based on that.
other things i am guessing will be looked at:

how you respond towards certain problems/stresses. so most likely a theoretical situation or else ask about your past experiences.

if you are committed to doing the things you do. so probably a question relating to your activities/ec's/etc

responsibility in life and medicine. could probably be picked up off your app but they may target a q here.

motivation towards med- probably dealing with your shadowing experiences/why medicine type question

that you have a good educational attitude- questions that ask you to portray that you realize that you are in this for the long haul/like what you are doing/are prepared for your classes/etc.

that you can work in a group- hey their curriculum is small group based so be prepped to attack a q like this and respond well or demonstrate that you can work well in a small group

show you are well rounded- pretty self explanatory

that you can relate to people- und seems pretty unique in that they truly care that you care about patients, can talk to them and your peers, and come off as a genuinely nice person

Hope this helps and remember I don't claim to know exactly what they want! Here's to hoping for interview invites for us all!!!!! 😀

So, has everyone who applied received some sort of communication from UND...wether positive or negative??

nope

Not I, said the fly. (Or no, if you'd prefer that.) Though I am excited every day, because it's a chance to receive some mail.

I haven't heard anything either. Every day that passes gets me more and more nervous.

I received an interview invite on Nov. 22, so others must be on their way!

all rejections go out mid Jan. same with all acceptance. Don't know about the wait list...

Does any one know when they are doing their first interview weekend? December 8 or December 15?

December 15th IIRC

I'm a North Dakota resident but live OOS! First interview date is Friday, December 14th!

So, if nothing by now, it is safe to assume it is a rejection??

You could get an invite for January still but for sure all the dec ii are already mailed. Don't loose hope, i know a person who had a jan 5 th interview a few years ago and got in!

Thanks UNDUG and kalbrecht17! Very helpful info. regarding the interview!

This weekend, I sent an email to the Admissions Office about adding updates to my file (the semester is nearly over, after all.) I learned something that may be noteworthy to a number of you: They don't accept updates post-AMCAS submission. The actual email read as follows:

"I am sorry, now that we are a member of AMCAS, we are not allowed to accept any information after the deadline. If you are granted an interview, this is something you can tell the committee."

I don't know who else is banking on updating their applications once final grades are in, but it looks like it's not an option. Have a great week everyone!

Has anyone received an invite for the Jan. 5th interview? Any speculation as to when those will be mailed out?

Yes, some January interviews have gone out as well.

Good luck to those interviewing next week!

Well ladies and gents, that's it for us non-invited people:

The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences Committee on Admissions has completed their schedule for applicant interviews to be held in December, 2012 and January, 2013. *I am sorry to inform you that you were not selected for interview for the class entering in August, 2013. *An official letter will follow but we wanted to notify you promptly via email.

I realize that you must be disappointed. *If you would like to discuss this action in more detail or if there is any help we can give you, please contact the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions.--

Ah well. At least they were quick about it. Best of luck to those of you whom are interviewing!

Sorry 🙁 Good luck in the rest of your cycle guys, UND is very specific in what they look for.

Eh, it was a bit if a stretch school. I lived in ND when I was in middle school, but my family is military so we move a lot. I figured I'd see if I could get back to ND for school, but no dice.

So.... If one hasn't received a rejection or interview invite yet, what is one to assume? Have all rejections been notified immediately by email?

For any of you applying through the INMED program, the office said that those applications are going to be looked over very soon! Hopefully we'll hear back in the next couple weeks! 🙂

apparently they send rejections by email though. see Chem Hopeful post, above.

Judy may very well have done that because I was asking her how she wanted my updates over the next three weeks taken care of. I'm not 100% on that.

Just got my II today. Parents called to let me know as it was sent to my home address. Scheduled for the 21st. Letter was dated for the 5th of Dec. Very excited!

Got my II in the mail today! I am also scheduled for December 21.

what time out of curiosity? if you don't want to say that's fine too!

Just a heads up, UND interviews in very small groups and has a small applicant pool already, so to protect your anonymity I'd be careful sharing information like that. Not that committee members would read this or anything. 😉
