Anybody - if you have been accepted at UND, please feel free if you want to post if you have declined or will decline the acceptance. UND's loss will be some other school's gain, and your news could provide some hope for wait listers such as me. 🙂

There is an official update of wait-list movement, so posting would not really give you a better idea of it. Just a heads up, UND generally has pretty low wait-list movement since ND residents tend to matriculate at a very high rate as compared to the national average.

I believe someone referenced the typical wait-list movement earlier in this thread, so you could gauge your chances based on that number.

If you matriculate as a wiche nonresident, is there any way after your first year to gain resident status and tuition if you rescind residency in your home state? Or are you stuck with non-resident tuition for the duration? This may seem like a silly question, but since I went to my state school for undergrad I'm not sure how it works.

Well I know you can do that for undergrad at und...

@elFlacco, I am declining my acceptance to UND on Monday since I plan to matriculate elsewhere. UND's a great school--I hope you get my spot! 🙂

From looking at other threads it looks like leigh00 is a NoDaker who will be matriculating at the University of Virginia. Congratulations leigh00! I am a neighbor from Minnesota so the wait lost won't "move" for me, but thank you so much for sharing your news. I don't think there is anything wrong with sharing this kind of info on SDN during this time of anxiety filled waiting for many. Since wait listed applicants know where they stand on UND's list, there could be one North Dakota resident out there that now knows an acceptance is coming.

Yeah, sorry! I'm In-State (should have noticed that you were out of state) and waiting to hear from other schools, but if it all ended today, I'd be going to UVA. I'm totally playing the waiting game with you though to hear final decisions from other schools...arg...such a long process! Best of luck to you!

Hey fellow UND hopefuls and acceptees, I have a minor conundrum and I'm looking for advice or perhaps reassurance. So I'm #2 on the alternate list for UND and I really loved the school while I was there and would happily matriculate given the chance. However, as it stands I don't have an acceptance anywhere. The decisions for Montana WWAMI applicants won't come out til early march, and I have one more interview scheduled for the end of this month at a very expensive private school in the south and would spend the entirety of my current savings plus some on a credit card just to get there and back. I don't know if it's just the paranoia of this whole stressful process, but 2nd alternate is not an acceptance. I know between the two schools I would choose UND. Would I be crazy to turn down an interview anywhere with no acceptances? Or is 2nd alternate enough of a sure thing? It has weighed heavily on me the last few weeks and I'm leaning towards not going to the last interview. I could finally turn the corner financially and get rid of some bad debt before school starts in August. However, if after it all shakes out I don't have an acceptance anywhere and have to reapply next cycle, I might need to be institutionalized :scared:. Any thoughts?

I was refraining from posting anything on SDN, but after seeing your post I thought I could maybe give you a little more information to help out 🙂. We don't have this year's update yet, but I have some of the data from last years update that I can give you. Hopefully it gives you a better idea of where you stand!

Class of 2012, through #23, 15 Alternates, 7 ND
Class of 2013, through #24, 15 Alternates, 13 ND
Class of 2014, through # 27, 7 alternates, 3 ND
Class of 2015, through #17, 17 alternates, 11 ND

Thanks for the info HardAtIt. I officially cancelled the other interview, it really wasn't in the cards financially. Now I just hope UND doesn't keep me on the edge of my seat for too long. 🙂

Hooray! Accepted off the wait list this morning! Such a relief that I made the right decision.

As of 2/14, three ND residents and one OOS had declined their acceptance. The aforementioned post is another tally mark in the OOS column, making 3 ND and 2 OOS. I was told an official update would be sent out early/mid March, but this is the most accurate assessment we have of the situation thus far 😀

Any UND Med Students fly fish? I will be matriculating for certain but my fishing has been somewhat one-dimensional since high school, living in the trout-filled mountain west. I'm not picky on species, but I would love to have a few spots within a half-hour drive of Grand Forks on the Red or other rivers to feel the tug of a fish when the water is open. It's how I de-stress, which I assume will be important in med school. Also, anyone else hear about the $126 million the ND legislature approved for a new building? Exciting times. Wonder when it will be complete?

Some alternate list updates for those of you waiting.

There have been withdrawals from 2 WICHE, 1 MN, and 3 ND applicants. Those positions were offered to 1,2,3,11,12,14. So if a MN/WICHE app withdraws, it goes to spot #4. If a ND resident withdraws, it goes to 15. If an INMED app withdraws it goes to INMED alternate #1.

Future updates coming weeks of April 16, May 14, June 4, June 18, July 9, and July 23 with additional emails/phone calls to top 3 on alternate lists the week of July 29.

Hope this helps!

question....

I'm thinking about applying here next year. If I am married to a 5+ year North Dakota resident does that count as being a ND resident??

do you live here permanently? and have you filed for a ND driver's license? i mean i'm sure you can "say" you're a resident if you live here, you just technically would only have "ties to ND" since you aren't technically a resident. I currently go to school here, but I'm still a MN resident despite living here for 4 years. I never switched my license over and elected to remain a MN resident.

I'm in the exact same boat as u. Lived here for 4 years to go to school but kept my MN residency

Yeah I marked MN resident. unsure of if i had to do this but figured it was what i should mark since it was true. if its the one school you want to go to I'd switch since it gives you a much much better shot at it. but that's just my 2 cents.

I'm sure you're well aware of UND's point system for interviews. Based on your most current stats (though I gather they may be improving) you would get about 148 points (regardless of whether you switch your state residency). This year the cut-off for interviews was about 154-155. Last year it was about 220, though I was told this was a huge outlier statistical and really surprised the admissions committee. So if keeping your MN residency status is really important this is something I would really consider. However, although you are sitting at the cusp for interviews the benefit of switching residencies would be that you would be vying for a spot of 1 out of 70 vs. 1 out of 11.

I really don't give a damn about my residency status- I was planning on switching after getting married anyways. My big thing was as you know there is a difference in points based off of how many years you have been a resident, if my hubby has been a resident for 5+ years which point level would I get? I'm curious because even if I don't switch my residency being married to a ND resident makes me eligible for in state tuition, so being married does count for something.

Also holy poopsicles about the difference btwn this year and last! I slightly feel like a ******* for not applying this year now... I wonder if it has to do with the fact that they increased the number of seats

I actually expected it to go down a bit this year. A factor that probably played a part was that when UND had it's own application, it calculated GPAs in a more forgiving fashion than the way AMCAS does it's gpa calculation. I didn't expect it to drop that much, though, probably more like 10-15 pts. Residency status might be the biggest factor in such a large drop.

I also noticed they raised tuition a bit, which is disappointing. It would be nice if some of the oil boom income could have gone towards keeping costs down.

Objectively, your spouse being a ND resident and yourself having attended UND (...I'm assuming...) won't do anything for you point-wise - you'll still be allotted 50 points for residency regardless. Subjectively however it will help. The cut-off for automatic interviews is by determined by the top 100 (roughly) applicants (point-wise). After this remaining applications are re-evaluated on a more subjective basis and approximately 20 or so more students are put into the interview pile - this is where your spouse and having lived in ND for the past several years can help you. Also, the cut-off for automatic interviews is usually about 20+ points higher than the bottom end of the range for those interviewed (e.g., the 154 mentioned previously).

The disparity between last years cut-off and this years is pretty surprising, but I don't think its related to the increasing class size. They've been doing it slowly over the past several years and cut-offs in the past have generally been closer to this years. I do wonder though if the switch to AMCAS has had any effect as Psych grades are no longer included in sGPA and there's no more grade replacement.

Yeah I see what you mean even tho I won't get the points for it I think its pretty obvious that I have strong ties to ND. And I didn't even think about the AMCAS thing with no more grade replacement, ill be pretty curious to see what the gpa averages are going to be for this class.

You know my stats so its pretty unlikely that ill get into an MD school, but what the hell I think its worth trying for UND next year.

Definitely go for it, you're right at that cusp so you stand a reasonable chance of getting a second review of your app and possible interview invite. Just make sure you have a REALLY good PS and secondary. Also, although I already know your opinion regarding this and I'm sure you've made up your mind, it may not hurt to try and up your MCAT; UND's mean is only about a 28...

The grade thing still bothers me, and some of the staff in the admissions office seem to feel the same way. I wish I would've applied last year instead of waiting a year. My cGPA would've been a 3.55 and sGPA about a 3.75 with the old system 🙁

Anyone else heard from UND lately? I sent my remittance about a month ago and got some information about a scholarship, plus I updated my contact info. Radio silence since then. I know one of their letters talked about a meet and greet type of weekend but I haven't heard anything further.

I'm still on that waitlist towards the top, so I'm hoping to see some movement here for the May 15th deadline! I heard there was a "welcome weekend" of sorts for current admitted students, is this true?

Really wish I knew what my next year is going to look like!

when does school start? looks like the white coat ceremony is on Aug. 9th...

Yep, and I'm pretty sure orientation starts the 5th. Headed over this week from MT to find a place to live. Can't wait!

Yeah I need to head up there to find a place to live as well. Does anyone read this board anymore? Suggestions for apartments?

It seems a little strange that we are (maybe?) 2.5 weeks from the start date, yet we have not been provided a calendar, class schedule, access to campus connection, etc... Is it just me?

I believe I got instructions on how to retrieve my EMPLID and access campus connection with my financial aid information around the end of last month. I think this is the link:

As for housing, I would get on that ASAP. I know the property managers I talked to all mentioned the undergrad dorms overfilling last year and virtually all vacancies being gone by the first week of August. There are a lot of apartment complexes out on 32nd that don't advertise, which is how my wife and I found our place (a decently sized 2 bedroom with newish carpet, dishwasher, garage complex, A/C for around 700/ month). For a town of 70,000 Grand Forks felt small geographically and it didn't take long to get from one corner of town to the other.

Has anybody seen anything about required/recommended textbooks?
