Agreed. I just submitted. OOS, but fingers crossed for an interview.

How long did it take to receive the secondary application after your AMCAS application was verified?

My amcas was finished "processing" 6/6. I received a secondary on 7/17.

Applying here. Submitted primary last week. IS. This is my top choice! Awesome facilities, curriculum, and great hospital on campus. Plus 30 mins from home. Too bad they only take 50!

when are they planning on expanding the class size?

OOS reapplicant here..

if I remember correctly from the interview, its was expanding to 75 in 2014 and 100 in 2015

What was your experience like here? How were the interviews?

when i visited the building was still under construction. they had everything well planned though and I'm sure the finished product is amazing. they talked about how they were able to design the curriculum and the building simultaneously - for example, for small group learning they added a bunch of nice discussion-type rooms in the design of the building.

as for the people, all the staff and faculty are super nice and laid back. the 45-min interviews were open file and completely conversational. definitely a top choice school for me.

Does anyone know a rough percentage of OOS applicants accepted?

Roughly 25% OOS according to what they told us at the interview last year.

I haven't heard anything about interviews.

But, just in case anyone else is wondering - I submitted the app fee on 7/18 and it still has not been cashed. I e-mailed admissions this morning and they said that they had received it but that all of their fees have to go through Columbia to be cashed so the process takes a little longer than usual.

So no one has been complete yet basically? I'm wondering in which order they will start sending out invites, maybe based on when secondaries were done online? I really like this school! 🙂

Current student, feel free to ask me about interviews, our curriculum, or anything else! We started EMT training 2 weeks ago 🙂

As for average stats, I think I heard 3.6-3.7 GPA and 29 MCAT, but they haven't given us anything official yet.

Any idea when interviews go out?

Is anyone worried about the fact that Greenville is not accredited yet? IS applicant, seems like they have a wonderful program set up, but it worries me that they haven't been accredited

This is copied directly from their website:

The Inaugural MD class begins July, 2012! Now officially accredited, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville is engaged in preparation for the charter class: the Admissions Committee is interviewing and selecting applicants, the Curriculum Committee is completing the instructional content and formats, and finishing of the Health Science Education Building Education Building is on target. The innovative educational program blends interactive experiences on a unified campus of state-of-the-art classrooms, Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, and patient encounters at Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about us.

A little out-dated by now, but I'm pretty sure that it means they're accredited.

Is anybody willing to post the secondary prompts? Would be a huge help to those of us who aren't verified yet.

The secondary is actually kind of long. There are a series of open ended questions and then an essay. The open ended questions ask about why you would be a good fit for the school, personal achievements etc.

Here is the essay question:

Please address the following question in a short essay of 500 words or less. Given your understanding of the current U.S. healthcare system, what changes, if any, do you think should take place and why?

Any idea when interviews go out?

We were informed that the first round of interviews are mid-September, so I would expect invites to go out sometime in the next few weeks.

Just to clear up accreditation worries--the school has achieved primary accreditation from the LCME and will be re-evaluated in 2 years. There has never been a medical school that received primary and didn't proceed to fulfill all of the requirements necessary for full accreditation.

Il today for sept 25th!!!!!!! Thanks or clearing that up about the accreditation!!

How long did it take to hear back about an interview after you submitted your secondary?

Do you mind sharing when you're file was complete/sent? Thanks and congrats! 🙂

File was complete on 8/9/12 (secondary was complete on this day, to clarify) but I sent my check in on the 14th and received my II on 8/17/12! The check hasn't been cashed, so I don't think that was required to complete the file prior to consideration. I really cannot wait, I am sooooo excited, seems like a wonderful school. Hope to see some of you guys there on my interview day!:luck::luck:

I'm an NC resident as well! Congrats! When were you complete? I think I was 7/20.

Thanks! I got the supplemental on July 17th, and submitted in the next day or so. I don't have an application complete e-mail in my inbox so I'm not really sure of the exact date.

Interviewed recently. The first one was bad, the guy kept looking at the clock. The second one was much better, I felt like they actually listened to what I had to say. Like a good physician 😉

But otherwise the facilities a jaw-dropping. Maybe it's cause this is the first med school I've toured but the health sciences center is just beautiful. Top of the line everything, really nice architecture, state of the art simulation center. It seemed like they really spared no expense

II for October 15th!! Submitted primary 7/24. SS 9/3. So surreal! Praying for the best for everyone!

ah no I was not early decision.

the ironic thing was, before the interviews, the dean asked us all "what is it about a doctor's visit that makes you feel like your physician is a good one?" and one of the answers was they aren't checking their watch all the time.

I also interviewed at MUSC and I feel like greenville spoiled me. MUSC seemed like a high school compared to the greenville campus, its just so nice and clean. Really the only thing MUSC has on Gville, in my opinion, is the fact that there are a bunch of big names working/teaching there so you can get good LoR for residency apps. And also that many people come from OOS to be treated at MUSC hospital because it is a very modern hospital.

In that regard, Gville is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, so things might change in the 4 years we would be there. Its a really tough choice. I am trying not to think about it until I find out where I am accepted, but its hard not to..

Anyone care to share the secondary essay?

I work at MUSC and went to school in Greenville, so I have strong ties, despite my below average GPA & MCAT score 🙁

What, if anything, would you change about the current U.S. healthcare system (or healthcare in the U.S., some phrasing like that).

Did they say, while you were there, when they were expecting to begin offering acceptances? Just curious.

Anyone interviewed and heard back yet? Just received the secondary and hoping to get it in ASAP. Seems that the turn-around from secondary to interview is pretty quick.

I interviewed on Tuesday, they said that the committee will meet every four to six weeks with the first meeting being next week and the first acceptances coming out at the end of next week. Like all other schools, they can't offer acceptances (except early decision) until October 15th. So, if you've already interviewed you should hear shortly if you're accepted or if you're application is still being considered. They are not going to give out rejections until the end of the cycle. They also stressed that still being considered does not equal rejected, a lot of the class is made up of candidates that initially get this status.
