2013-2014 APPIC (internship) Phase II

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if it is helpful to indicate invites, i received a personal email invite from Stony Brook and a mass email from Kansas State. but again, no new invites to announce.

To me, if it's personalized it may indicate that they are sending out invitations as they select applicants, or that they haven't gotten around to typing up my invitation yet... Either way it gives me hope that my invitation will still come. I have applied to a lot of VAs, both in Phase I and Phase II, and I do not have VA experience (although I have extensive experience in a hospital). Fair or not, I am certain not having VA experience has been a hindrance. A classmate with much fewer hours and integrated reports, but with VA experience, got a lot more interviews than I did in phase I . On interviews, most of the other interviewees had VA experience. It is not impossible to get a VA internship without experience, but it is certainly harder.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I don't have any VA experience and I matched to a VA in Phase I.

Having VA experience definitely helps, and having none can hurt (if the opportunity for obtaining it was available), yes. I actually had zero VA experience prior to internship, but matched at a VA (or technically a consortium) for internship and a VA for postdoc, although my grad program didn't have a training relationship with a VA, so I had an "excuse" in that respect. I also tried to make up for it by having experience in just about every other setting possible (e.g., forensic [criminal and civil], community mental health, college clinic, private practice, academic medical center, developmental center, etc.).

So as you've said, it's not impossible, but it can be more difficult, yes. It also likely varies from VA to VA with how much they value prior experience.

congrats! if you don't mind sharing - did you apply to the child or adult track?

Child Track. It's a Skype interview and they're interviewing 8 applicants per the doodle poll

I was wondering if anyone has heard from Walla Walla/Spokane VA or Utah State.

I added the additional sites that people heard from to the master list on page 5. I will try to keep up with it, as people hear from more sites.

I was looking through the thread and saw that American Lake had sent out e-mails for interviews and was wondering if it was a mass e-mail. Sorry if someone has already said if it was or not.

It was a mass email from American Lake - according to them, "We received 186 applications for Phase II and selected 28 finalists."

Oh, I got that request for Case Summary too from CT Child Guidance Center

Chestnut Hill College called Friday for on the spot interviews.

ShoreHaven emailed Sunday to schedule emails.

Got an interview for Connections Day School and TeamCare Behavioral Health (part of Immaculata consortium). I applied to Pacific Clinics and Shorehaven and haven't heard from them, so I'm guessing they're out. I really thought I would get Shorehaven since they haven't had that many applicants over the years.

Anyone heard from Pacific Clinics Adult track or only child?

Has anyone heard from the College of William and Mary in VA or Astor in NY? I wish it was mandatory to send rejections in Phase II as well.

I didn't apply to either of those. But I'm with you - I wish the rejection letters were mandatory. They really aren't fun to receive but then you at least know where you stand.

Hi all! First time posting -- sorry to see so many others are going through this hell! Anyway, so far I've heard from WellSpan in York, PA (phone call Thursday evening), Smith & White in Temple, TX (phone call Friday morning) and Pennsylvania Comprehensive Behavioral Health Services in York, PA through the Immaculata Consortium (phone call this morning).

Email invite for a phone interview with the Institute for Child and Family Health Infant Mental Health for Monday. I only applied to a few sites this round so I am pretty excited 🙂.

I have worked for ICFH for 8 years. The position you are applying for is the infant mental health in sunset

Also got the invite from Andrus Children's Center. There will be an informational phone/skype call on Wednesday followed by in-person or phone interviews later this week or next week.

I was wondering if the e-mail from ICFH was personalized or seemed to be directed to multiple recipients?

The email for ICFH wasn't personal but wasn't clearly sent to multiple recipients either. It was addressed to "Dear Applicant" though.

Gotcha, thanks! Sounds like I shouldn't hold my breath 😛 Congrats on your interview--that site looked great!

ICFH will ask you about your essays. Know them well. Also they will ask you about your views regarding evidenced based. They will ask you about your theoretical orientation as well.

Just so you know, it's 10 assessments for the entire year. 5 will need to be completed, feedback also completed before January.

Thank you psychgirl! My experience is assessment heavy so the assessment portion is good news. It's always nice to have some insight on what's expected for the interview. I really appreciate it.

Thank you! Don't give up yet, it might come through. It's very hard to tell how sites are conducting screenings and invitations for phase 2. I will cross my fingers for you (yes, very evidence based... Lol).

No problem! Also remember that since the position is infant mental health, you will be working with children ages 0-5. You will be primarily doing dyadic therapy. Also in south fl, they are the #1 agency and the umbrella to all other agencies 🙂. Not sure who
You will be interviewing with, but the training director is Dr. Garcia and the Director of the unit is Dr. Esteban. P.S. He loves flexibility in terms of theoretical orientations and techniques to suit your clients needs

hey hey!

Thank you to everyone posting- it really helps to know when sites are sending out notifications!

So far, I've heard from 4 sites (3 in Pennsylvania, 1 in New Jersey): Ravenhill, Belmont Outpatient Program (through Immaculata's Consortium), TEAMcare (also through Immaculata), and CNNH. I also heard from a site I applied to through Chestnut Hill's consortium- they sent me a rejection notice because I am not bilingual.....which is not listed as a requirement for their site....ughhh.

Other than PhillyPsyD, has anyone else heard from WellSpan?

I applied to the College of William and Mary and have also not heard anything yet.

From my past two years experience with this Match 2 stuff... I really would wait until next week to rule sites out. They are busy and don't have a lot of time for this either.... probably doesn't help but just sharing my experience.

Soooo frustrating when they don't post requirements!

I got a call to schedule an interview with Rost & Associates (York, PA) in the Immaculata Consortium. She seemed somewhat confused about my application and I suspect she may have only had my CV and not the cover letter and essays.

Interview with Northern Childrens Services (Immaculata consortium)

I've not heard from WellSpan either.
Those that were invited for an interview at WellSpan, did the site offer a Skype or phone interview or did they insist on an in-person interview even if you are not in the same geographic area as the site?
