2014-2015 Oregon Health & Science University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone know who to contact if the portal says they are missing a letter that they should have?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a response after an interview???

They told us 6-10 weeks during my interview! Hopefully it's 4-6!!

Last year the first couple interviews heard back in that 4-6 window. The later in the year the more it went to a 6-10 timeframe. Also know if your 1on1 interviewer isn't available for the committee meeting you won't hear until they are able to make it. So people on your interview date may here a decision (or see one via the portal) and you may not.

Hey everyone. I am an MS2 at OHSU.

I contributed a little to the thread last year, and thought that I may be able to help out a little this year too. To be honest, I am procrastinating doing some study for my pulmonology test that is coming up next week.

If you have any specific questions, send me a PM. I will try to check in once a week or so. Keep in mind that I am in the old curriculum. I don't know a lot about the new curriculum, except what I talk to the current MS1 students about. But that being said, many of the lectures that the new students are getting are exactly the same as the ones that we got the year before. There are a few changes, and they are trying to make it more "cooperative" and "team learning," but from the outside it looks just the same.

I am an "extreme non-traditional" that may be able to help answer questions for the career changers and those that have been out of college for 10+ years.

My best advice is to read through the thread like this from last year. Many of the questions that have been brought up so far were answered last year.

Good luck to you all!

Ahh I hope I hear soon... OOS, complete 8/18

Any mission based groups besides Oregon residents hear anything yet?

IS, Secondary submitted 8/4, complete 8/11, II 10/10, interviewed 10/17.
Pretty average scores (MCAT 32, GPA 3.6) - Good news tho, all the interviewers (your 1-on-1 AdCom member included) are completely blind to your GPA and MCAT on interview day. OHSU places a far greater emphasis on your personal development and emotional maturity than your GPA.
Just want to give some hope to all those mission-based group applicants who don't have ridiculous academic/test stats - your interview invites are coming!

Is everyone in the last round of IIs waiting for confirmation of selected day?

I got my confirmation email today, but the last round of interviews looked like a lot of them got their confirmations really close to their due date.

Are they closed to grades/essays/application or just closed to GPA/MCAT?

Does anyone know if California residents get any love from OHSU? Specifically ones with no ties to Oregon. That's the position I'm in right now, with a LizzyM of 73. Should I give up hope? I was complete in July I think

If you meet a mission group it is definitely worth applying. Guessing with that Lizzy M score you probably have the mcat gpa to be in a mission group.

Hey guys figured I could join in on the fun ha IS applicant. Secondary completed on 09/10. Just waiting for that II now!

What's a mission group?

Feeling neurotic constantly refreshing my portal page to see if they have made a decision. Probably two weeks to go still. Ah!
The waiting is tough, just for reference from last year. First Interviews with Oct 2nd and first decisions were Nov 1st. Good luck! And refresh that email too that's the decision you want 🙂

When I interviewed, my one-on-one knew the responses to my essays almost as well as I knew them. He asked some clarifying questions (sequence of event type questions), but then moved on to more interesting things.

Really, getting your one-on-one interviewer on your side is one of the most important aspects of the interview day. I am not saying that the MMI is not important, but the one-on-one has much more weight, and he/she is your advocate to the committee. Take that section of the interview very seriously, and be open and honest. They are looking for people that are impressive, but also people that can communicate effectively.

Ahhh yeah, I don't meet any of those criteria except the 32 and 3.7 one (I'm 35 and 3.8). We'll see I guess!

That puts you in a "mission group," and a good group to be in. You are very much above the average for my class, and I think the class before and after me too. If the committee liked your application/essays, you should have no problem getting an interview. Good luck. 🙂

I sure hope you're right dsoz, because my 1-1 may have been the best interview session I've had all season. 🙂
(and not because I've blown it everywhere else)
