Thats what I was told. There are socials the night before each of thats whats throwing you off?

Vandy for Graduating Dental Class of 2014 doesn't start till after MATCH. Current interview date is for the lucky ones currently out of Dental School and even luckier bringing home some bacon.

Tooth: You are the lucky one bringing home some bacon!! Unfortunately I'm still stuck in the red tape of DSchool...CANT WAIT...9 more months!!!

Good point. I just tried to find their deadline. On PASS it says it's Oct 1st. Since they're having their interview on Oct. 11th, that's going to be a very short notification.
Yeh that's true. Do you think programs wait their own deadline to review applications then send interview invites ? Or they keep reviewing applications as they receive thrm and send invites before their deadlines ?

I have a friend who has already received an interview invite for a program that has a deadline of Oct. 1st. Some schools obviously look at them as they come in and others will waiit til they are all in amd review them at once. Realistically most will wait but some may pick a few early on.

If you don't mind can u tell us which program/school did invite ur friend ?

Im sorry, but i dont think he would like me to say. If you are worried about getting an interview from this program too, im sure they will be giving out many more interviews. He got a call in the middle of July and was told since his application was complete it got forarded to the director. The direvtor liked his app and extended an interview invite

Respect. thank you

I am finishing up my app to submit it this week. Did anyone get any invites ?

I haven't heard of anyone getting any invites yet. I would say the case of Dent010's friend is quite rare.

Dent010's friend's parents probably jumped the gun and made the contribution with the program director a little too early. All joking aside, saying that crooked deals don't happen in the admissions process is like saying steroids don't exist in baseball. The only difference is that instead of getting suspended, you get to keep your seat at the ortho residency!

In all honesty the person who got the interview ive known personally and has absolutely no connection to orthodontics. He is thr first person in his family to ever go beyond a bachelor's degree. He is a good guy with a good personality. Top 5 in his class and 90+ board score. Minimal research but good extracurriculars. Just submitted very early and got lucky. I think many programs will take the time to evaluate all competitive applicants.

If you aren't going to say the name of the program, then you aren't contributing to the purpose of this thread: to send the panic factor of prospective applicants through the roof because they did not hear from a program that has started extending invites.

Everything else about your "friend's" situation is 😴

Let's start guessing then. In past years, I remember Oklahoma sending out invites well before the due date.

I wasn't calling out your friend and I believe that person to be a well qualified candidate. I was making a point that each program probably has 1-2 spots that are rigged, so if a program has 4 open seats, a non-donator probably has 2-3 spots available to him/her. This was exposed by the UCLA grad ortho program a few years ago, and the annual salary of ortho program directors are dependent on this "financial aid".

I absolutely agree, I have seen this happen first hand. Some people will be favored just because of relative or family, and unfortunately that spot will be taken. but, this happens every type of program in every type of environment. Its just a part of nature, we always like to take care of our own. do I think it's fair... no... just a fact of life. Win some and lose some... just the way life goes.

I guess August is going to be the slowest month of the application process. Sept should be exciting with interview invites. Then Oct and Nov will be full of interviews. Just have to sit and wait through August...

Yeh tooth I was telling myself the same thing. I just submitted my application last night. This morning I got two programs emailing me saying that they have received my pass application.

Anybody else checking their email everyday knowing full well the invites won't be coming until September......?

Although nothing is happening yet its always fun to check and hope for a pleasant surprise LOL

Do we file fafsa and apply for graduate plus loan to pay for orthodontic residency costs ? or we have to get private loans ? anyone has an idea ? as you know some programs are like 80,000 a year only for tuition .

Interview invite by phone for Oklahoma 24/25 Oct.

Awesome! Congratulations! This thread is officially started! Good luck. Hopefully I'll hear from them too. We'll see. nothing yet.

Thank you 🙂 ill keep my fingers crossed for you!

Just to keep the thread going....
Got a call from Oklahoma on 08/20 for an interview on 10/25. The social is on 10/24. They only offered that date.

As an aside, I believe Houston's interviews are 10/17-10/18 and Baylor's will be 11/4-11/6. But I have only been invited by Oklahoma as of yet.

Good luck to everybody!

Can we organize this into a list? I would do it myself, but its hard to compile it from my phone

Yeh def I can do that but it's only Oklahoma that sent invites. As we hear from other programs I can organize it by alphabetical order.

I customized my PASS essay for each school I applied to. A director contacted me today because he was concerned that I specifically mentioned the name of his program in my essay. He said no one, not even in prior years, had done that before. He was concerned that other programs would see my essay and be turned off by it.

How could that be? Is it really that uncommon to make customized essays? I mean, we must be talking about hundreds upon hundreds of applications here and I'm the only one?

This was not part of an interview invite. He just wanted to express concern, so I don't feel comfortable mentioning the program name.

Wow, I can't believe you customized your essay for all of them. How many programs did you apply to Tooth? Also, I'm getting a little nervous that there hasn't been too many schools inviting applicants for interviews yet.

Hey Tooth, I don't see anything wrong with doing that. Definitely shows you care. However I will say it's probable that most everyone just submits the same personal essay. I wouldn't fret!

I'm applying to 32 programs. I'm not too worried about the lack of invites yet. I anticipate the invites to start after the first week of September.

Don't be nervous it's still early. According to last year thread, most programs started to send out interview invitations in mid of September.

I think what we can confirm from this is that some programs are looking at our applications. This is what perplexed me as I wondered how they figured out who to invite for interviews. Is it a long process where the director looks at them for days or do they simply cut those with low stats and choose who to invite in one day? Prolly looking WAY to into this.....but seeing as it's not mid September yet I gotta stay occupied!
