Waitlisted, interviewed mid Feb...Anyone know chances of getting in after being waitlisted this late?

So sorry to hear that? May i ask if you received the news via snail mail or email? Also, do you attend an instate institution like UMD-College Park? Hoping that better luck heads your way in this cycle. I've been waitlisted everywhere and had my interview at Maryland on 3/8 so I'm still waiting to hear back.

snail mail, in state

I know a few people who have so far gotten scholarship offers from UMD. Is it appropriate, after aid packages come out on April 1st, to email asking if there are any scholarship or grant funds available? What is the best way to bargain for money?

For anyone who is interested, I called the admissions office today to inquire about my application status. They told me that they sent out letters, and it should arrive some time this week (I interviewed on 2/8). Good luck everyone!

When did they send out the letters (i.e. today or last week), and what interview date results are the letters being sent out for (early/mid/late Feb or March)?

Btw, assuming your letter is coming this week, that means you basically waited a whole two months before you got your letter. When you chatted with the admissions office, did they say the wait time (2 months) is the same for most applicants?

Also, if possible, could you, or anyone here on this forum, contact the admissions office on behalf of all of us SDN'ers, because the applicants who interviewed only recently were told not to call in to the admissions office to inquire about our status until after waiting 6 weeks. Calling in before the 6 week waiting period may potentially jeopardize our status and chance of getting in. Since many of us interviewed only 1-4 weeks ago and would still have to wait a long time before hearing back, it would mean a lot to us if you could contact them and let us know generally when we should expect a letter to be sent to us, or if the letters have already been sent out with last week's batch, for those who interviewed mid Feb, late Feb, and March.

Thanks so much!

Calm down, you'll hear when you hear. Typically 8 weeks, if history is anything to go by. That's a very busy office this time of year and it seems they like to take their time - which is beneficial to you although you have to wait a bit longer. It will happen when it happens and calling won't speed it up or tell you new info.

Edited: Sorry if this came off a bit dickish, I promise I was writing it in a sympathetic and calming tone.

Hey! The wait is definitely annoying! They weren't too thrilled that I called, and they would not give me any more information than what I had written above. Sorry that I can't be of more help. Good luck!

Rejected pre-II via snail mail. Best of luck to everyone else! 🙂

Did anyone who sent an update get a response saying they received it?

Anyone heard back with March interviews yet?
It hasn't even been 4 weeks since you interviewed. If February interviewees haven't received their letters, how did you logically come to the conclusion that March interviewees would hear back already?

for those of you who already have a student ID, you can access your financial aid award on the SURFS site (you have to set up your user name/password before).

I'm guessing they'll also email this out at some point, but I logged in out of curiosity and there it is.

I checked shortly ago and nothing 🙁 says N/A no data, so hopefully soon

I got something too, it's not too significant and I'm an OOSer if anyone is curious. I haven't really reached out to them in any capacity since the interview.

And to be clear, when I say "award" that's financial aid speak for how much you can take out in loans, not necessarily scholarships or "actual" awards.

It's Friday, and still no response. So much for the letter arriving this week.....

Yeah that's why I'm confused. I applied for FAFSA so regardless of whether or not I get a scholarship or need based aid, they should still offer federal unsubsidized loans. I called the office today before they closed and they said awards for incoming students go out next week.... QQ hopefully they didn't forget about me

^ Also kind of concerned because my SURFS account doesn't even indicate that my FAFSA data was received, despite it being processed in February, and I double checked and University of Maryland, Baltimore was definitely selected as a school to receive the data.

OOS watilisted
interview date 2/8

So sorry to hear from that! May you share stats/important EC's? I interviewed there on the 8th and would like to see if I should rule out any hope. I've had three interviews so far and have been waitlisted by two 🙁. Hoping for some instate love

Have everyone inFeb. heard back yet? I believe it should be time for March interviewers to be evaluated!

Awesome LizzyM score!

I know someone was accepted past year with LizzyM 69, but she had like 1000 clinical hours.

Hope to hear back soon from UMDSOM.

Man working in admissions and financial aid must be a nightmare! Everyone deep breath and repeat.

For those of you accepted don't panic they will take care of you it is really early. I know you want to be on top of things and as pre meds you are neurotic but consider this point people have gotten off of the wait list in July and still gotten their fin aid set. You will be ok. Also, I've received a bunch of messages asking for tips to get off the waitlist at MD. There is no magic bullet. If you have done something worthy of an update, send one but if not you just need to be patient. I get that this process has been a year of hurry up and wait cause I've been there and it's frustrating.

You'll get decisions and financial aid when you get it and the timing wont alter your life's course just chillllllll

That said, congrats to the accepted class of 2021 you're going to love it here and I'm happy to offer any maryland specific advice to you all. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back and on the waitlist!

Any acceptances? Wait list here. Worth calling to inquire about position?

Sorry to hear that. Do you go to Maryland's main flagship, UMD College Park? I heard they are obliged to take in a certain number of people from the main campus.

I'm sorry to hear that and hope you will make it off the waitlist.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your stats and is there a rank to the waitlist?

Thank you

My committee advisor at UMCP, who's close to Dean Foxwell, mentions that he is not receptive to LOI or additional LOR beyond what was provided through AMCAS. However, he happily receives any academic/professional updates!

Thank you! We'll see! I appreciate the encouragement. Sure ! OOS, female.
LizzyM- 74

They said they will send out a letter in May with the ranking? I think it's just upper and lower half. How many people are on the waitlist ?
