ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!! email at 310
To me this whole PrEP process continues to be a mystery.based on information I've heard it seems to align with sagators2014's post.
I spoke to the admissions office about two weeks ago concerning PrEP and was told that the committee still needed to make a decision on who they are going to consider for PrEP and that after all the admissions decisions were made they would also notify everyone who will be considered for PrEP, but that's about all the info I was given so who knows.
That's what I got from their reply. I was rejected a couple weeks ago so she told me at that point they still hadn't finished making the decisions, but unfortunately they didn't quite specify if PrEP decisions would go out at the same time as the rest of the admission decisions. So you're not necessarily informed you are being considered at the same time as your admission decision email?
I'm so sorry 🙁It's a no go for me but being out of state I wasn't suprised. I had the numbers but being out of state it just didn't work.

I completely feel your pain, that's exactly how I feel. Huge congrats to those who got in and for those who didn't, I think we'll all be making a huge comeback this year. 🙂 Trying to stay optimistic even though it's still hard at times...Rejected.
I thought my career goals fit perfectly with the mission of UNM-SOM so I am pretty discouraged at this point.
Is this your first time applying? Don't give up if you're sure you want to do this. The application process is random- you can have it all and not get in and watch people who have less slip in with no issue. I applied 4 times before I got in so DON'T give up. Take some time to lick your wounds and get back on that horse! It's hard... it sucks but its not an uncommon spot to be in. Know a lot of med students and doctors had to apply more than once!Rejected.

I am a some what older applicant for applying for the first time. I have a lot of things to think about. Is attending the post-interview session helpful?
Helpful...not so much... but you have to do it...because if not that will be held against you AND its required to qualify for an exit interview. The exit interview will give you a better idea of what they didn't like and what changes they'd like to see- and while there is no guarantee that making these changes will get you in- not making them is not an option. If anything, attending the post-interview thing will show UNM that you're determined and care about improving yourself. Like LizardMD said, the process is complex, often random feeling, and there are no guarantees. You just have to keep being your best.
Has anyone been approved for the Facebook group yet?
Thanks! I guess I just have to be patient..Took them a couple days for me back in January and it doesn't look like they added anyone new yet
For anyone who might be wondering, all PrEP notifications went out yesterday. We found that out today.
Trust me, I feel your pain. I'm still really devastated, and worried that I won't even make it in the second time even if I try to do exactly what they recommend to me during the exit interview. But we have to persevere. 🙂 The process is sickening, and isn't always fair by any means. But I'm trying to accept it as a sad reality.Great....
Notifications for PrEP went out how? email? regular mail? For anyone who might be wondering, all PrEP notifications went out yesterday. We found that out today.
Not exactly sure how but we were told by the admissions office that all applicants recommended for PrEP were notified yesterday.🙁Notifications for PrEP went out how? email? regular mail?
Thanks so much for your support. I also know of a doctor who practices here, went to undergrad here, but ended up going to another med school due to not getting in here. I literally feel sick but I'm not giving up. I realize that this kind of thing is actually more the norm than it is the exception. Not only when looking at UNM, but also looking at national statistics.Everyone who didn't get the news they were wanting, don't lose faith. Although I was a first time applicant, I still went through many bumps and got my fair share of licks on the way to even applying. It says a lot about you if you can persevere.
Think about 100 for a second. It's round, it's a number that appeals to the eyes, but most of all, it's about as arbitrary of a number you can have. Were there only 100 people who would've made great doctors? Of course not. There's always more qualified individuals than there are spots, and the admissions committee probably had a VERY hard time deciding.
Do not take it as a personal indictment. One of the best minds and even better doc I've ever known was rejected twice before being accepted to a very prestigious OOS school and rejected by UNM a third time.
Don't give up, do everything you're told to do to improve. I have a feeling some of you will be getting white coats in summer 2017 just from your positive attitudes alone!
Yes. It shows your determination. A friend of mine got rejected last year, and he got valuable feedback from the post-interview meeting, not just on himself, but also on the selection process.I am a some what older applicant for applying for the first time. I have a lot of things to think about. Is attending the post-interview session helpful?
In past years some PrEP candidates were notified a few weeks after March 15th via regular mail. Since PrEP candidates this year were all notified on March 14th, I'm guessing it was by email since regular decision applicants were also notified by email that day.Long time lurker first time poster. Congrats students accepted this year and good luck students applying next year!
How would they notify PrEP candidates I wonder? Probably email.
hmm
Has anyone on this thread been notified of their PrEP status? I have not.In past years some PrEP candidates were notified a few weeks after March 15th via regular mail. Sadly I was not notified of PrEP and I thought I was a good candidate for it. I don't know of anyone who's been notified for it this year.Has anyone on this thread been notified of their PrEP status? I have not.
Thank you. That makes sense. I thought I was a good candidate for it as well.Sadly I was not notified of PrEP and I thought I was a good candidate for it. I don't know of anyone who's been notified for it this year.
Oh yeah looking forward to that lolCheers to reapplying 🙁 Back to the stress and major uncertainty levels.
Definitely in this together! I have a lot of clinical experience but maybe not enough specifically in NM. I think my main issue is probably the MCAT. Dreading it but trying to stay hopeful and plan to give it my all...At least we are in this together.
