2019-2020 LECOM-E Post Bacc (Masters program)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got my townhome today! Super excited to be moving up at the end of the month. Anyone know when they will be sending out book list/schedule?

hi guys! i applied to the LECOM MMS program a few months back and just recently found out that my transcript never made it to LECOM, so i sent it again and am hoping to hear back about the decision soon! I have a 3.2cGPA and 507 MCAT score, do you think i will get into the program? this is my top choice right now!
You honestly would have made it easily into the medical school.

Yea I think you have a high chance of getting in. To speed things up make sure your enter all your grades in the portal. I didn’t know I had to do that until Jaime sent me an email.

You honestly would have made it easily into the medical school.

The average was a 503 and a 3.5 for the DO but you have to take that with grain of salt because LECOM reserves a lot seats for its bs/do programs and MMS students. And in-state students usually tends to get preference. Usually the MMS and 7 year bs/do applicants have much lower stats. In reality if you are applying through the traditional route and are out of state you need much higher stats than their averages. On the DO applicants page for the last cycle there were numerous people in the 510-513 and 3.5-3.8 range who either got waitlisted or rejected.

It’s a similar situation with FSU med school. People applying thinking that it’s MCAT/Gpa averages are very low but that’s not the case because they reserve seats for their masters students, who have very low mcat scores.

Is the linkage still pretty strong for this program? Am I correct in thinking that you need a 3.2 in the program to get accepted into Lecom??

I recently received my acceptance letter to Erie MMS. Would be nice to talk to folks who went on to the medical school. What happens to those who don’t?

I got accepted today!! I was so sure I was gonna be rejected since Jamie’s been ignoring my email.

Congrats! How do you the MMS stacks up to the West Liberty program?!

The West Liberty program sounds really good but my only concern is that it’s very new so I’m having a hard time finding information on it. I’m sure it’ll get more popular in a few years but the first batch from last year finishes up this month I believe so I don’t know how many have matriculated into WVSOM successfully.

For Lecom does a 3.2 in the program gurantee acceptance into the med school??

The letter said for admission into LECOM DO you have to get a 3.2 GPA in the program but also have an MCAT score in the 40th percentile or an AIS score of 113. So as long as u meet those requirements it is pretty much guaranteed 🙂

Awesome thanks! I just found out about this program but no one at Lecom will email me back!! Lol

Hey sorry one last question. Is there a deposit you need to put down for this program??

It’s $50 to hold ur spot, they send it in with the acceptance letter

If you send the $50, can you withdraw your spot at a later time? I'm waiting to hear back from other programs. Not expecting refunds.

I asked Jaime today about how many students got into lecom in the previous years. He said in 2018 about 51 and still accepting for 2019. Does anyone know how many students enrolls each year in the MMS program?

Since they're transitioning into an MMS program I'm not sure if they will still be enrolling the same amount of students as they did with us. I believe we had about 175 in our post bacc this past year though!

Was the MCAT score recently changed? Could’ve sworn it was 496 at one point.

I think it’s always been 40th percentile but what accounts for a score in that range has changed in recent years.

I’m pretty sure you can always withdraw your acceptance like any other program.

It’s weird. If you look at the Bradenton thread you need a 3.5 for an acceptance from the MMS. I hope Erie doesn’t change their requirement of a 3.2. Anyone know why each school has different standards??

My official acceptance letter from LECOM indicates that for us a 3.2 is required, I doubt they would spring that on us when classes start. Also, I'm unsure why the difference in GPA, maybe the location is just that sought after.

Do you guys think it will be a good idea to apply to other DO schools while doing MMS program to increase their chances of acceptance? if you do, how are you planning on entering all of the information as in required to future classes? also, does anyone know of DO schools that give preference to LECOM MMS students.

I’m pretty sure it’s pretty set as long as you meet the requirements. They recommend you have a 3.4 though. They said as long as you take the interview seriously and don’t get into legal trouble you matriculate in. You don’t need to fill out an AACOMAS application either. So I’m not applying elsewhere because the application is a lot of work. I’d recommend it I guess if you feel like for some reason you won’t meet the requirements.

Are you sure that your don’t have to fill out an aacomas ? I heard different things about that?

I asked Jamie and he said they do not require an application if you’re planning to matriculate into their school only. See attached email

Thats good to know. Does anyone know if MMS students get into the PBL pathway? Since MMS interviews late, I'm concerned that the spots may fill up.

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about applying for the 2019 cycle do you guys know if they're still accepting people? Also what are the average stats of those who are accepted

Does anyone know if you get accepted to the DO program from the MMS can you choose either the Erie campus or Seton Hill?

From what I was told yes you can choose your campus but the thing is let’s say if there were 10 people who wanted to go to Bradenton from Erie and 5 people wanted to go to Erie from Florida, they would only swap 5 students. So it works for all 3 campuses and will include the new campus in Elmira NY in the future.

Deadline is July 1st so you can still apply if you want.

hi everyone! just wanted to reach out. I just finished up the lecom-e post bacc 2018-2019. I was accepted into my 1st choice pathway in their medical school in erie (DSP-directed study pathway).

stats:
undergrad cGPA: 2.8 --math major
undergrad sGPA: 3.1 (took majority of premed pre-reqs my junior & senior year & at community college/online after I graduated)
MCAT 499
took a 2 year gap between undergrad and post bacc
worked as a nursing aide for 5 years
LECOM-E post bacc fall sem GPA: 4.0 (fall course load was a bit easier in my opinion but the transition/learning how to study is what makes it hard)
LECOM-E post bacc spring sem GPA: 3.8 (spring course load is definitely harder)

looking at my incoming stats I was truly an underdog and im so happy that LECOM gave me this chance. I really, really wanted this so I put my head down, worked my butt off during post bacc and succeeded! I was able to manage my time so that I could go to the gym for 1-1.5 hrs each day. honestly, if I can do this, you can too!!!

feel free to message me if you have any questions!! good luck 🙂

*****Update!!!! just wanted to let you all know that the Post Bacc 100% prepared me for my first semester of med school, as I finished with a 4.0 🙂 ****** good luck to you all, you can do this! and please let me know if you have any questions!!!

Nice to hear of your success story. About how much did you study per day? I know everyone is different and it’ll take less or more time for each of us but it’d like to see the general idea. Ty!

Congratulation my friend! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I had a lot of doubt but now not so much after you have shared your story.

This is awesome!

I just got an email from Jamie with the booklist, also saying there is an MMS open house on June 7th. Anyone know how you RSVP for this? I haven’t gotten anything and I can’t seem to find it on the website. Thanks!

hi! thank you!

so what I would do as far as studying goes:

fall semester- professors would post lecture powerpoints before class (sometimes an hour before, sometimes days before) if I had time I previewed the lecture. during class take notes on my laptop. after class come home decompress and eat dinner then start studying. each lecture has learning objectives and I would use those to guide my studies and I would make "study guides" answering each learning objective. ideally I would have my study guide done that evening, but sometimes I would have to finish the next morning. (total hours studied each evening ~3-4. total hours studied each morning ~1-2. totaling to about 5-6 hours of studying outside of the 4 hours of lecture.) non-test weekends I would usually just finish up Friday's study guide and take it easy maybe review flash cards or something for a class like microbiology where you need to memorize stuff. test weekends I would study for about 10-12 hrs each day & on sunday I met with a classmate and we hit what we thought was high yield/clarified anything we were confused on. the exams are mixed subjects so you have to know how to prioritize your time (strengths vs weaknesses, 5 credit vs 1 credit class.... but if you fail the 1 credit class (easy to do bc there aren't may points available) you cannot get into the med school nor can you repeat the masters.

spring semester- the same as fall except I put in more work. the course load is harder (anatomy/pharmacology/pathology). I made it a priority to preview and start my study guides before the class on that material because the lectures became denser & harder material. I would study for ~4-5 hours after class then all the next morning before class besides the 1-2 hrs spent at the gym/showering. totaling about 8-9 hours a day studying outside of 4 hours of class. on days I was feeling burnt out I would take an hour break before class to decompress. I studied more on non-test weekends (need to study anatomy a lot there is a bunch of material to cover & I never took anatomy before.) honestly the only classes I took before post bacc that we covered in post bacc were biochem & microbio. as for the rest of them, this was my first go around and im so happy I had the exposure in post bacc before med school.

sorry for the long post I was just trying to be thorough. hope this helps 🙂

Thanks so much for your clarification. This helps. Would you recommend trying to learn some anatomy beforehand for those who’ve never taken it before?
