It is at both campuses with the majority of the experience happening in second year.

I am thinking of adding KCU-COM to my list because i really like their opportunities for those interested in rural medicine. Is there a disadvantage being an OOS applicant applying to the Joplin campus? I know a lot of other schools have a massive IS bias for their rural campuses and I was wondering if it’s the same. I feel like the Joplin campus is a perfect fit though and would much prefer being in a small town over urban KC.

They are a private school so no IS bias really. A lot from the surrounding area apply, but that is true anywhere. I am OOS and I am in Joplin.

I have no idea if it will be the same this year, but I'll post last years secondary questions below! I am an incoming
M1 at the Joplin campus. Happy to answer questions about applying to KCU and DO schools in general.

What are you currently doing to maintain your academic knowledge?
Describe a time when you had a personal failure. How did you move on from that experience?
We are often too busy to plan future activities. Describe a time when you were so busy you had to react to situations rather than plan for them.
 
just got an email saying that they have received my aacomas and will be reviewing it to see if I'm eligible for a secondary. I was verified for aacomas on 7/1
 
Hi. So I have a few questions, hopefully someone might know. I just received the secondary and it says that my campus selection is "Joplin" even though I selected both, and it won't let me change it. Does this mean it was decided when they reviewed my application that they would send it to Joplin? It's fine if that's the case I'm just curious how they do it.
Also, one of the questions is "Besides KCU, what are your top five choices for osteopathic medical schools?" where you have to list them. Does anyone know why they ask this? I don't know, I've never had schools ask this. Do you guys really put your top choices?

They ask you top 5 DO schools choices besides KCU (drop-down list).
For the prompts, 2500 (~500 words) characters or less, not a hard limit. Same prompts as posted by GaudiestMango4 above.

+1. IDK why they changed my preference. I went back to look at my app, and I selected Kansas City?
 
received and submitted secondary today! For anyone who submitted, are your LOR requirements still incomplete? I had sent them through AACOMAs but got a" congrats you submitted, but your LOR requirement is incomplete" email.

Also was casually switched from KCU to Joplin so let's see how this goes I guess.
 
Im trying to pay and submit my application but when I got to the payment info page it won’t let me pay. Is anyone having this issue or is it just me?

I emailed them this morning about the campus selection on the secondary because mine was selected as Joplin but I'm only applying to KC. They said it was a mistake on their part and recommended waiting to submit my application until they had it fixed so my application would be sent to the correct campus!
 
Still waiting on a secondary, OOS verified back in May
 
Secondary received yesterday. Does anybody know why they put my preferred campus as Joplin? I marked "both campuses" on the AACOMAS application.

from KCU today:

At the moment, KCU is experiencing some technical difficulties with the Secondary Application Portal and campus preference selection. You are still able to log in to the system but please do not submit until you get an update from our office. We are working diligently to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. As soon as we have an update, we will let you know. We apologize for the delay and hope to reach out again soon! Thank you for your patience.

*If you have already submitted your secondary application, please disregard this email. This will not affect your campus selection if it was incorrect.

I do not know the reason, but I did not have top 5, I had top 2 so I put my top 2 choices. RVU-COM since I am from Colorado and DMU-COM.
 
Does anyone know if they still pre-screen? I checked their website and there is nothing about having a minimum gpa/mcat but I know that was the case in the past.

Good question. I have no clue why they ask for it and I don’t think anyone will have the answer to it besides admissions. They could be doing it to see what schools they are competing with but who really knows but yes I did it

I'm also wondering the same thing...still haven't received a secondary yet. I got an email from them 3 days ago saying that they are reviewing my file

Same here. It must be an issue on their end because mine were all submitted on AACOMAS. I sent their office an email to double-check!
 
Is anyone else having trouble setting up the their account to submit the secondary? Really wish they didn't send out emails at 6 PM on a Friday evening...cant even get in touch with IT/admissions.
 
Did anyone else not get their preferred campus fixed even after the emailed update saying that they had fixed it? I had listed Joplin in my primary and they still haven't changed it from Kansas City, do you think I should submit anyways?
