I contacted the site last night and the training director got back to me. They let me know that APPI contacted them regarding the issue and the portal should open shortly so that I can submit my application. What a relief!
The same happened with me, but the APPI still shows that the deadline has passed even though the training director said the portal would re-open at 12pm today. Did it open back up for you?

I probably will be hated for this comment… but I don’t know if it’s worth trying since you attempted to submit your application so late. That is just what my dct would say to us.

Unfortunately, it never opened up, so I contacted the APPI help center and they said that they will get back to me with an email from the account manager. 🙄
Hoping this gets resolved soon.

I think the discussion was in reference to an application that was due yesterday that folks were unable to submit due to APPI being down. So not an application that is so late.

It’s still last minute. This is feedback I got back from a site.

I would assume this is an administrative error. Depending on the site size, they may have hundreds of applicants. It may be worth confirming with them because that is very weird. However, I SERIOUSLY doubt you would get an invite and have a *confirmed* interview day only to be rejected later...
You were right - I contacted someone who had the director email me back. What a relief! I was hoping this was the case, but also that if an error could be made with an accidental rejection, I guess I would just assume an accidental interview could be offered as well. Luckily, that was not the case, and hopefully no one will have that experience. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Definitely not a popular response, but exactly what my DCT has told us multiple times throughout this process (fear motivation? it might be working for me)
Unfortunately, the truth sucks. I would rather someone be honest than mislead me or give me false hope. Call me a realist.

Anyone hearing from sites that their LOR are not viewable? I just heard from one that they can't see mine even though they're showing as completed on my end. Currently on hold with AAPI and on hold for chat because this is NOT GOOD 🙃

Speaking of LOR.. I really want to read one of them. Is there a way to do this or should I ask the writer to send me a copy?

You can ask the writer to send you a copy, but they don't have to give it to you. Did you waive your right to read them when you submitted them?

If you waved your right on the APPI, then I imagine you would have to request it from the writer themselves. Are you concerned you received a bad LOR or are you just curious?

I understand your point and agree that some sites may respond this way. However, I think there is no harm in trying, especially if you really like the site. Worst case scenario the site will tell you that you cannot submit your application. Best case scenario, you get to apply! 🙂 Things happen and sometimes we are unable to submit an application well before the deadline. Also, how close to the deadline is early enough, where do we draw the line? APPI was down for the entire day yesterday, which is a long time and it should be more reliable. No hate here, just another perspective.

I did waive my right… I’m contemplating submitting one more so I can view them lol

I agree it does not hurt to try or ask. I use this motto all the time. I’m just saying the day off might be pushing it when appic mentions to be prepared for sites crashing and sites are aware of this. I got a response today from a site that was impressed that I got in early and did not wait till last minute.

I think the better way to do this is just to ask LOR writers directly what they think your strengths are and any areas of improvement. I asked all my main mentors/supervisors this, but especially my LOR writers as I think it informed how I view myself as I prepare for interviews.

100% to all this. Two of my writers provided me specific details from their LOR's so I could have some awareness as I enter interviews given LOR's may come up in them. If they were willing to write a letter, I imagine they'd be more than happy to discuss it like @jdawg2017 said 🙂

I agree, I think this is the way to go.

Too be honest I think all my letter writers I had great relationship but if they select stand form than it’s one generic letter for each site

I am only curious about one letter writer because she never wrote a LOR for internship before and I had a great relationship with her but she didn’t offer to write me a letter- I had to ask so I wasn’t sure how I felt about that - all my other supervisors offered

Did they change the AAPI form? You used to have to waive your right or not when you requested the letter in the first place. You couldn't rescind later on, I assume mostly as the letter writer knew up front whether or not you waived reading the LoR.

Personally, I'd just ask rather than backdooring it. I'd imagine some letter writers may not be willing to write for you again if they feel you went about getting that letter in a misleading way.

I will try this first but I might just spend the 60 dollars to see what they said!!!😎

I am preparing for phase 2 just in case so I just want to know if I should use her letter next phase or not.

I see your point.

When you enter the information it asks you if you waive the right again. So I thought if I selected no that when I print my application I could see it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think not waving your right will give you access to view the letters. I think it will just indicate to the site that you did not waive your right.

Fairly certain you're right on this -- I was told under no circumstance should I not waive my right as it may look like a red flag

I’ve been on multiple training and admissions committees and have to say that this going to vary across sites. The committees I have been on wouldn’t have a “too bad, you shouldn’t have waited until the last second” stance when there was a technical glitch that prohibited someone from uploading their applications before the deadline. I imagine that the other poster’s DCT gave that advice so that students could avoid being in this situation. But I would very much encourage people to reach out to the sites and inquire. Nothing lost by trying, and much to gain. As I said, the committees I have been a part of (VAs and major universities) would have been extremely understanding.

Yes hi I literally created an account to reply to this - THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I was panicked for at least a week after being told by a training director and had to contact AAPI tech support and all of my sites to see if the error occurred for everyone. It ended up being only one site (I think) and the glitch was fixed several days later. AAPI support couldn't find any error so they were sort of like "we don't know what to tell you." I read that it happened to at least 3 others as well

Thank you!!! This is reassuring! The director is being wonderful and reassuring about it, telling me not to stress etc etc but I am still going to explain the situation to my letter writers and ask that they either provide me with a copy just in case this isn’t resolved or allow me to give them the email addresses of where they can send them directly to the training director.

I’m sorry… guess it’s just a matter of time for the rest of us!
I'm still in limbo and haven't heard one way or the other from DC VA. If they are truly personalizing everything, that might be why, but I know a prior intern who didn't hear back until I think like December 5 or what seems late her year. Still keeping my fingers crossed for fellow limbo folks!

Aw I'm so glad they're being wonderful!! The director at my site was too and I chose to take it as a good sign 1) that they're so kind and 2) that they care enough about my (our) application to reach out. That's a great idea, I also reached out to the letter writer who corresponded directly with the training director and provided a copy of the letter. They'll see that you are putting forth effort, showing genuine interest, and staying calm in a stressful situation. I hope it works out!

Has anyone heard from the Bronx VA or Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts Mental Health Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center? They were supposed to send out notifications by today. 😕
