I have not. I did see somewhere else on their website that they would let us know by the 6th so it looks like there is a discrepancy between dates. I imagine if they had sent out anything, someone would have posted about it on the google doc

Has anyone heard about the pediatric neuropsychology track at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center? I think the interview notification date is today, but I haven't heard anything and I don't see an update on the google doc. Thanks!

I'm not quite sure but it is possible! They just happened to pop up as someone to add before I submitted apps so I followed them.
Right?? I felt somewhat guilty taking an 11am spot being central time but I absolutely can't function at 6:30 for an interview unless necessary 😵

I saw in the spreadsheet that the training director tweeted that they'll be informing people on or around December 6
I also go an interview invite today from Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, I only applied to the geropsychology if that helps you any.

They usually give basic info about ethnicity, race, and current concerns. Some ask how you would approach the case and others ask more specific questions. They sometimes ask questions you would ask, what measures you would give, and things you would consider. It’s very open ended and it has more to do with how you approach the scenario than with a right answer.
They sent out rejections on December 15th. I had to ask last year and they send them out in mass at the last minute. They did not send out invitations in waves. That’s one of the few sites that will send only one wave of invites.
This whole thing is very stressful, I was you at this time last year. I got interviews I did not expect to get and rejected from places I thought were safe. I cried. I prayed. Had numerous sleepless nights. But in the end It will all work out . I matched to my second choice in Phase 1. Trust the process. You are awesome and this process does not define you!
I received a bunch of rejections before getting interviews. I matched to my second choice in phase 1 and also took a gap year. Trust the process and it will all work out. The process sucks and may we all get leadership positions to make this whole thing much better in the future!

15 applications; 5 interviews; ranked 4. The place I thought was going to be my first choice ended up being the last.

Thanks! They actually sent rejections yesterday. I believe this year, they sent 3 waves of invitations for one track and 2 waves for another.

Two sites that I applied to pulled out of match and both of them indicated that APPI would refund our payment, but it may take some time to process. Oddly enough, both sites that pulled out of match indicated significant staffing changes on multiple levels and prolonged hiring searches that led to their decision to pull out.

Does anybody else have (false) hope for Johns Hopkins? Not getting a rejection really stresses me out because I'm also not expecting an interview LOL
I'm sorry if this question is triggering for some applicants. It's not my intention, but I'm trying to get a better sense of what I should do.
For those who are fortunate to be in a position of having perhaps too many interviews - at what number have you started to decline interviews/cancel scheduled interview? I realize there's probably a gray area of depending on the competitiveness of sites, etc., but in general, or what range of #s? I obviously want to match and increase my chances, but - as someone on the spreadsheet discussion tab mentioned - there is probably a point at which there is a diminishing return of going through so many. We can only handle so many given our many other current duties.

From what I've been seeing, the "magic number" of interviews (after which you theoretically experience notably diminishing returns) is 6. I don't think this applies uniformly, however. If your 6+ sites are "highly competitive" then it's a good indicator you're a very desirable candidate and are likely to be ranked well at every site (in which case it would be surprising to rank below your 3rd choice, much less your 6th). If your 6+ sites are not notoriously competitive and you applied to a larger number of sites than average (say 20-30), then you may want to err on the side of caution in keeping more interviews on your calendar.
For me, personally, I don't think I'd want more than maybe 8-10 interviews max. Even then, at that point I would likely cut out my 1-2 bottom picks because I would feel confident in the 6-8 remaining sites that I'd rather attend. My sweet spot I'm hoping for is 6, because that would reflect to me that I'm likely competitive enough to match at at least a few of them.

What a position to be in, congratulations! I have no advice but I commend you for trying to evaluate what you can reasonably manage in light of your other responsibilities. More is not always better, especially if the quality of some might be diminished due to the stress of too many demands. If it were me, I would probably try to keep as many as I could to increase the number of sites to which I might be matched, but if any of them did not seem like a great fit that I was prepared to commit to for an entire year (i.e., becoming aware of serious problems with a site or truly being a horrible fit), I might reconsider this and give my spot up with the hopes they would select another person who might be better suited for it to interview (although it is not guaranteed they would even offer the interview for another person anyway). As some have mentioned before, interviews can provide information that made a preferred choice less preferred and vice-versa, so that is a possibility to consider too if you were looking to cut some from your list. For anyone familiar with the process, if a site has sent out both invites and rejections, should we reach out? Or could we be on a "waitlist" of some sort and they are waiting to see if another potential intern declines/doesn't interview well? Trying to see if I should write those sites off completely or if there is still hope 🤣

Hey there! Has the interview notification deadline for that site passed? If yes, I'd give it a couple of days and then politely reach out. If not, it is definitely possible that you are on a "waitlist" and they won't send rejections until they are sure all their potential interns have accepted. I'm in a similar position to you and it sucks to be in limbo--I'd rather have the certainty of a rejection haha.

During my year, I thought really hard about my ultimate priorities. Granted I only applied to VAs so I felt like I would get decent generalist training anywhere that I could match to.
As the process and interviews went on, I moved further away from specifics that made me choose a site in the first past (eg unique rotations) and placed greater emphasis on static/lifestyle factors like geography in determining my ultimate rankings. And sites with red flags and bad gut reactions got pushed down my list.
Yes, it's just a year but significant others and family are just as important as training especially since COVID makes flying more challenging versus being within reasonable driving distance.
So ultimately, it's up to you and your priorities/needs and however they align is 100% OK. I'd recommend creating a ranked list of those priorities and then checking how each site matches. Good luck!
This is so highly variable, I can't see how someone else's may help you. Some people are willing to move anywhere, and may make a "best available training" rank list. Some people may prioritize sites with specific training experiences. Some people are only applying to local sites. What are your priorities in looking at sites?

I'm going to juggle as many as I can. Perhaps I'm paranoid but I'm still worried I might not match even after 7 interview offers. I have 4 interviews in 3 days next week (including two short ones in one day!) so I might cancel the least preferred of those to reduce my stress and better prepare for the others.

This might be a long shot, but would anyone happen to know how to access Manchester (NH) VAMC and their internship brochure. I'm currently kicking myself for not saving it to my computer as now it does not seem visible on their site. Would it look bad if I emailed them asking for it? Was hoping to avoid that but I can't seem to find it anywhere on their site or through APPIC. Thanks in advance!

The best advice I got in terms of ranking was to directly compare one site to the next immediately after interviews. So after interview with Site 2, I rank Site 1 and Site 2. Then Site 3, etc. Doing it iteratively, instead of at the end, or trying to sort through priorities was incredibly helpful. To each their own, though.
I had 11 interviews. It was a lot, but I learned vital information at each one of them. My rankings changed wildly from before the first interview to after the last one. I matched at my top choice, which was nowhere near my top when I applied. It only moved up after the interview. Above other sites that I thought were my “dream” sites.
My recommendation: do NOT turn down interview invites unless there’s an impossible conflict and no sites can make an alternative arrangement. Or, you know that it will be impossible to move to XYZ place. There’s no guarantee of matching. There’s no magic number of interviews that will guarantee a match. It’s great that you’re being considerate of others, but do not do so at a detriment to yourself. You should not indiscriminately turn down interviews just because you’ve hit a certain number. Ultimately, you are not “taking” a spot from someone unless you applied with 100% certainty you would never attend that program. It’s a very different process than applying to graduate school was.

Yes, I submitted it on 11/18!
I was invited to interview for the CBT track at UT Health San Antonio and submitted my application on the night it was due, not even a full day before receiving the invitation. Very fast turnaround indeed!
