any new II? I was considered complete 8/9 and haven't heard back. wondering if my application is toast now.
I don't know how they pick for II but I was on the same boat when someone who completed later than me got a II. I would say there is no need to lose hope.

edit: I got my II last week

how many people who get a secondary tend to get interview invite? sorry if this has been asked already

do we need to have DO shadowing experience to get an II? I'm curious because I do not have formal DO shadowing experience (I expressed an understanding of principles of osteopathy / how it aligns well with my goals and story) but I'm not sure if we're just automatically disregarded without formal shadowing experience? I got a secondary but no II so far.
i unfortunately don't know what other experiences people have had, but I had DO shadowing experience, and one of my friends who also got a II also had DO shadowing experience. if anyone else didn't please feel free to share!

Has anyone with a complete app on or after 8/12 heard anything? I received a secondary early august and submitted that within a couple of days but It's been radio silence since then.

I’ve been complete since 8/3. Only emails I’ve received since are two “your application is still being considered.”

Little update regarding their heightened monitoring:

On the student panel, a WesternU student noted that their heightened monitoring was due to their EM rotation not being a "core" rotation, and it taking place in the 4th year vs the required 3rd year. This was coming from a OMS2 who works with the Dean(s) through an org that advocates for quality improvement in their education. They mentioned that it's being worked on, but is not an easily resolved issue due to them having to make significant curricular changes.
Do we know what this means for applicants, current students, and odds of the school losing accreditation?

In full transparency I’ve talked to a few people about this and the answers all make me uneasy. The school maintains accreditation and the odds of it losing accreditation are low because of the schools longstanding reputation.

HOWEVER, their lack of straight forward answer makes me really nervous. I found out through conversation that the reason I was provided in my last message are illegitimate. While there are many reasons that could be the case, this personally worries me when it comes to admin/student communication in the program. This and my other known cons of westerns DO program make me super uncomfortable.

I will say that I’m just an applicant and I don’t know much, but that’s my unbiased perspective. Anyone can DM me if they want to throw ideas around.

I see that the heightened monitoring status is in place for four years. I am unsure of what follows? Do they reevaluate and decide whether it gets placed on accreditation with warning or probation? I can't find good information about how the accreditation statuses change with site visits.

They will be re-evaluated routinely to ensure they’re actively trying to fix these issues. I don’t know the timeline, but a student mentioned it was going to be under re-eval soon (I recall 6-9 weeks?). I again doubt the school would slip up hard enough for a probation to be put in place but it’s an open possibility.

Accreditation issues are tricky and for a long time established school like western to have heightened monitoring is odd and raises flags in my eyes.

Thanks for commenting on this, I am interviewing at this school and I would like to stay in CA and my acceptance is not here, so it would be a tough decision. I have another II to the other big CA DO school but want to make sure I am informed on my options and that the decision I make is as informed as possible.

If you are determined to stay in socal I believe it is still the best choice for you. I live here but my family isn’t here.

Congratulations to all those accepted!
Are interviews here in-person or virtual?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see why it matters if it's in the 3rd year or not. I interviewed at a DO school where they have EM in the 4th year, and they're on "accreditation with exceptional outcome" status. One of the MDs I interviewed at doesn't even have an EM rotation but they're accredited.

I understand. This is just what a student said to me when I asked what was up with their accreditation status. Given what you just said, that leaves the reason for the heightened monitoring up to question.

Also a little sus about that reason as I'm pretty sure EM in 4th year has been a thing for many years now.
