OOS Secondary received 6/13

2024-2025 Secondary Prompts. No word or character limit.

What other medical schools did you apply to? (not required)

Recall and discuss a time in your life when you had an epiphany event and how that changed your life and future. Describe a time in your life when you experienced a tragedy that may have altered your thoughts about choosing medicine as a career.

You are sitting in a room full of extremely high achievers at New Student Orientation; share the strategies you deploy to combat imposter syndrome.

How do you maintain confidence and success while navigating medical school's academic rigor and demands?

Share if and how you would tackle the below scenarios. • A friend tells you they are afraid a peer is experiencing dating violence at the hands of another peer. • A peer starts appearing disheveled, losing weight, and isolating themselves.

Disclaimer: Please complete your secondary application within the next 21 days. *If not submitted within 30 days, your application may be withdrawn.

For the second question do you think they want us to answer when we have had an epiphany event and a tragedy, or are we supposed to pick one of them?

I think they want us to answer both since they didn't mention choosing one of the two. I wrote two separate essays for it; one answered the epiphany, and the other answered the tragedy. You could probably combine them into one.

I think the way I am going about it is describing a tragedy that happened in my life, what I took from it/realized (epiphany moment) and how that affected my route to medicine.

I think this is how they want it answered? I feel like the question is a little open ended though...

Is there a word count for the essays???
Nope, I averaged around 700~ for each question asked aside from which medical schools did you apply to...

Also sorry to the above person who replied to me, I never saw that.

Guys I just got my secondary email about an hour ago but never got the link "to reset the password" Is there anyone with the same problem?

I went on the link to the application login and pressed forgot password there. It then sent an email letting me make a password.

Does anyone else have trouble paying the fee? I kept getting an error message saying that "No applicant identified." I tried the troubleshooting tips to avail.

Hey guys, when I check my status it says completed. Does anyone know if the will send email saying my application is now complete

I emailed them about the word limit and the 1st and 4th questions and they replied with:

"There is not a limit but we usually suggest a paragraph or two and you do need to answer all questions!"

Not the clearest of answers but ig it doesn't hurt to answer all parts of these questions and split it into 2 essays like someone mentioned above.

You averaged 700 words per question? That seems quite high. A personal statement is ~850 words

Yeah. I answered them in-depth to give an insight to who I am as an individual. If there is no character/word limit, I see no reason to really hold back. It was one of the few opportunities I’ve had so far in a secondary to write more than like 500-1000 characters per question which is not a whole lot. If I wrote too much…well. Whatever lol.

I think I am still lost on that first question. Did you guys answer it like two separate prompts and just paste two essays in one? Or did you blend them together somehow?

I decided to blend my answer into one. I feel like it give a more in-depth answer rather than writing two less thorough essays (which would also make my response really long). Just me tho, not accepted/interview, first-time applicant.

I'm thinking about doing that. And did you talk about the epiphany that you had from your tragedy?

I blended mine too, it was kind of talking about my tragedy how it led to my epiphany and finally how the epiphany altered or led to my decision of wanting to be a doctor

OOS Secondary Received 6/27, is anyone who got a secondary application having trouble submitting payment? Keeps saying when I put my information in that it can't find student matching the information even though I'm sure everything is correct.

I suppose this is my mistake for not reading the entire webpage but just be aware, the Workday site where you submit this does NOT let you save or edit this application whatsoever. You must submit the entire thing in one go.
I opened it on my phone to make sure the prompts were the same as last year and review the whole application, when it wouldn't let me proceed from the essay sections I just put a "." to move to the next step and when I went back to add my essays it locked me out ..........

I emailed admissions; hopefully there's a way to unlock this so I can actually add the content for this application.

It's on me for not reading, but honestly who builds a website that doesn't let you save or edit your work??? Absurd

It says my letters of rec are incomplete but I sent them to AACOMAS. Anyone else have any trouble with this? Would it let me submit with their status being incomplete.

Yes, I'm having this issue. I think you can go ahead and submit the payment and essays and call them about the LORs because in past years others said they manually add them from AACOMAS.

This also happened to me. I called the next morning and the representative I spoke to said this happens ALL the time! She was able to send me back my application to finish within the hour.

My secondary application was just verified, but they said I'm missing my physician LOR, even though it's been added to AACOMAS since may. I'm unsure what the issue seems to be.

Does anyone know if they send a confirmation when all sections are complete? I submitted payment and essays (they reopened it for me right away thank gawd) but I haven't seen anything that says "congrats you've submitted".

I'll email admissions shortly to double check unless someone has heard of something or gotten a confirmation

I did get a confirmation email saying that my application is complete. It took about 2 weeks, but the admissions are really quick with responding to email and troubleshooting issues.

Ah ok good to know.

It took 2 weeks to get the confirmation email that everything was complete after you paid/submitted everything? Seems like a long delay tbh. I might email them to check just for kicks since I have a thread started anyway.
Thank you!!

I submitted on 6/10 and have yet to receive a confirmation email but I have green check marks next to everything in the portal, making me think its all good...

They just emailed me back and said this:

“Thank you for check in, you have completed everything on your end.

You should receive communication from us soon with further instructions.”

Updated secondary prompts:

Compose an essay on one of the following scenarios (not to exceed 1000 words) Recall and discuss a time in your life when you had an epiphany event and how that changed your life and future. Describe a time in your life when you experienced a tragedy that may have altered your thoughts about choosing medicine as a career.

You are sitting in a room full of extremely high achievers at New Student Orientation; share the strategies you deploy to combat imposter syndrome (not to exceed 1000 words)

How do you maintain confidence and success while navigating medical school's academic rigor and demands? (not to exceed 1000 words)

Compose an essay to share if and how you would tackle one of the following scenarios (not to exceed 1000 words) • A friend tells you they are afraid a peer is experiencing dating violence at the hands of another peer. • A peer starts appearing disheveled, losing weight, and isolating themselves.

There is now a specified 1000-word limit for each answer. Additionally, write an essay on only one of the scenarios for Qs 1 & 4.

RIP to those who wrote an essay about both.

Wait, I wrote two separate essays. Does that mean it is going to be looked down upon, or does it just mean I did more work than needed?

I have a feeling they introduced word limits because of me… I wrote two full essays for each original one that had two prompts, all probably exceeded 1000 words after combining the two essays lol. They haven’t said I need to resubmit or anything though lol.

You answered the prompt without this new information, so I don't think they will look down on you. Probably just did more work than necessary.
