2024-2025 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Montana)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Current students and/or @Celloboss - Do we really need every item on the supply order list? I can see needing your own BP cuff if you needed to practice at home, but every room in the OSCE lab had oto/optho scopes and sphygmomanometers. What do you recommend?
The oto/optho scopes you’ll use for skills check offs (cranial nerve exam, head eye ear nose throat exam etc) as well as your competency exams twice a year that test you on random skills which will all take place in the OCS lab which won’t have those tools available so yes you’ll want to get those.

Also whenever you have labs during the OCS blocks not everyone will be able to be in the SP clinic rooms due to space so some of you will go to the hospital side of the SiMS center and you won’t have access to the oto/optho scopes and BP cuffs over there.

I just got an Accepted Student Pending Decision. Has anyone else gotten this decision and been offered a seat from this APS status? If so, how long was it until a spot opened up for you?

I got put on the APS list March 21st after interviewing March 3rd and got the A call this week on the 29th

Random drop in here, but does anyone have any ideas on the loan situation with school? They're making it sound like theyre still not gonna have FAFSA any time soon, and I'm a little concerned in general lol. Some private loans have such a large interest and I'm struggling personally to find one that doesn't require a cosigner (I know don't judge me). Any ideas?

I would plan on private loans for this upcoming year. It’s hard to tell with the current situation concerning the department of education although MCOM has submitted all of the necessary paperwork/forms to get federal loan eligibility. I was able to sign with Sallie Mae without a co-signer ($0 income since I’m going into my second year) but I do have good credit score.

Does MCOM run both WL and APS? Or do you, at this point, receive an APS or R?

Has anyone heard back from their interviews on the 6th and 9th?

Yes MCOM contain both WL and APS. Honestly, they are very transparent with their acceptances; a lot more holistic compared to other schools. You should have a decent chance of receiving an APS if you think you did well on your interview. I do see new students joining the accepted group page recently, so there are still movements. Just hang in there, it takes 2-3 weeks to receive a decision after an interview.

Interviewed June 9th and waitlisted. Anyone know how full the class is and how likely there will be movement from the waitlist this late in the cycle?
Thank you! 🙂

Don't worry, there are still movements. I just saw a couple of new faces joined the accepted group page today. Hang in there!

Hi all, i'm sorry but what's the difference between the waitlist and the alternate list ?

Do you mean APS (accepted pending seat)? I haven't seen "alternate" used with RVU (for what that's worth) but in other schools' threads it's used interchangeably with waitlist.

I got an email from RVU MCOM that i was placed on the alternate list and i assumed it's the same as waitlisted but i am not sure

I probably wasn't much help then. Sorry for that! There are some super savvy ppl in here; hopefully, they'll weigh in soon.

Has there been a recent APS movement? Any withdrawals? Movement on WL?

There was one this week, but honestly, it had slow down significantly. I assume because it's a holiday week 🤷‍♂️. There is a huge discrepancy in the number of students in accepted group page versus the number of students in GroupMe, which I would argue is a better representation of students that are actually interested in attending. The GroupMe has only 110 students currently (growing weekly though), while the fb accepted group page has over 200 students (relatively stagnant, students leave and join). I know a few students who are for sure attending, but have yet to join the GroupMe, so there's that. If there are any movements during this time of the cycle, I assume they would be prioritizing students on the APS. Stay hopeful, but any students on the waitlist should consider reapplying for next cycle mid July. Just my two cents, good luck!

Thank you! I have an APS and am getting pretty nervous because I need to put my house on the market and move across the country. I don't know if I am moving next week or in 11 months. Any idea if they would actually let me defer to next year if the timeline becomes impossible?

I joined the accepted group page but was then removed; I guess because I'm not technically in the c/o '29 but I'm not sure

Understandable, it's a tough situation to be in. I found this link online for RVU deferment policy if it helps Request for Deferment | Rocky Vista University. Based on the policy, "requests may not be considered if received less than 30 days prior to the program's start." However, your situation is a little unique since you will get accepted pass the deadline. If anything, you should still reach out to them and talk about your circumstances. If RVU is among your top choices, you can send a letter of intent or ask them questions about the program to show interest. Based on my experience, MCOM really prioritizes students who show interests in attending their program. Regardless, you are on the APS, which means they really like your application and interview. Hope the best for you!

Thank you so much (again)!!! I love this program and have to find a way to make everything work.

Thank you for the resource too! I really don’t want to wait another year to start, but if that's what I have to do to make it work (and it's possible), I will do it!

For anyone who's already been through week 1/year 1, how far in were you when the last APS student showed up? I have to drive from NY, and I'm freaking out about the time. Also, I can't reserve a moving truck until I have a moving date. I sent a request to be in the c/o 2030 and was told it's solely based on if a seat becomes available or not. I'm SO stressed!

I’m actually in the same position and received a call yesterday from admissions that I’ll more likely than not be offered a spot over the weekend to start next week. They made it sound like I’ll have the option to go next year with the guaranteed seat. Is that not the case if I was placed on APS?

Interesting! I was under the impression that if a seat opened up this year, you would be expected to take it. With APS, if the seat doesn't open this year, you're guaranteed one for next year; that said, I asked if they would put me in next year's class to avoid getting movers and then driving 30 hours (without stopping) all at the last minute.

I turned down an A from a WL b/c I really like RVU's program! This week has put my stomach in knots though. The not knowing is killing me.

I think I initially misread your post!

So they're there this weekend and they expect to call you? That's awesome!

I just wish I knew what their expectations would be for timing to arrive in Billings once given the A. Could they give me less time than the drive would take?

I’m honestly not sure what’s happening I was told there’s a good chance that spots will open based off of last year and asked if I was interested in still coming but if not I have the option for next year because it’s so late. They didn’t break down the logistics of when is acceptable to arrive or anything like that.

Thank you for sharing that! Are you in a good position to join the c/o 2029 if they call or would you prefer next year?
