2024-2025 Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Pittsburgh)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It did not say anything about interviewing for a waitlist position, so basically I submitted my application and secondary on 3/2 and got my interview invite on 3/4, I interviewed on 3/17 and got a decision within the week. I applied super late so I assumed that they would be full but the interview invite did not mention waitlist at all.
I interview in Feb and I have not received any news yet.

Got an email today about a follow up to medical school enrollment decision. Been waitlisted since winter. I honestly can’t tell if it’s gauging my interest at this point or an offer of acceptance. “We were truly impressed with your application and interview, and we believe you would be a valuable addition to our community. It would be our pleasure to welcome you to the Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and we sincerely hope you'll choose to join us.” The rest of the email is about asking if I am still interested. Anyone else?

Anyone still waiting on the next seat available list? I paid my deposit about 3 weeks ago. Haven’t heard of any movement yet. Just curious 🙂

I heard nothing about this list. Is it a subsection of the waitlist where they let you get a head start on the process?

it’s like an acceptance but pending seat availability. It’s guaranteed for either this year if a seat pops up, or next year if not.
Oh interesting. Now you’re making me think my email today was just about gauging interest XD

Accepting that option effectively counts as your one seat past May 01 does it not? meaning, you can't hold an acceptance somewhere else, while also staying on the Next seat avaliable list bc u technically paid a deposit and have a guarenteed seat for the following cycle?

I have paid a deposit at another DO school without a pending seat availability factor. The non refundable deposit is to make you feel committed. It’s not set in stone. The May 1st and on for CYMS is for MD. Unless this is specific to the pending seat factor.

yep! because it is a guaranteed acceptance to the program for either start date pending availability. so I had to make that decision before the deadline

Not really sure what your saying if you don't mind clarifying sorry! I do understand that paying a deposit and holding a seat isn't set in stone, and with those on waitlists till the class start date, have the opportunity to go elsewhere. Dont know if thats what you were getting at.

What I am referring to is the May deadlines where students have to only hold one acceptance seat or else running the risk of schools rescinding their offer once they find out after schools report your statuses.

It's weird because of how the next seat avaliable program is structured, is you are essentially both on a waitlist for this cycle, and paying a deposit for a guarenteed seat in the next. I wanted to know from a AACOMAS standpoint, if being on the next-seat avaliable program considers you having an acceptance this year for those who might have an acceptance elsewhere.

I should have corrected myself, sorry. This was poorly thought out by me. I was focused on keeping waitlists with an acceptance. I now definitely see this is an extra commitment. I was more so projecting about holding an acceptance but maintaining waitlist spots. I would not advocate to hold multiple acceptances at this point XD

And I really don’t know how it’s handled, like you asked. I was definitely giving feedback on something I don’t fully understand.

Seems I received a next available seat offer almost a month ago, oops. Surely they should have sent me an email but oh well. I wonder if it has been two business days yet...

I’m on the same boat. I have to call tmw and ask if this admission is off the waitlist this cycle or if the system was triggered automatically for a seat for next year.
I never accepted or realized I had a next-seat offer from last month, so I am not in the running as of now. If you already paid and don't know if the aforementioned congratulations post on your end is for this cycle or next, then I hope it is the former! I am starting to think that they offer these options every few days, as they told me in my original message that I had 2 days to accept. If that's the case, I would imagine you have a good shot even if you are just realizing the offer is out there now. I am looking elsewhere at schools, but good luck! I am not especially satisfied with the poor communication on their end. I am not sure why I should have known to check my portal during a random two-day period in April after hearing nothing since October.

do you have an option to pay the deposit yet or no?

Yes it is there. I just formally withdrew through email, though. Feel free to direct message if you want to do some comparisons between what I see and you see on our respective portals before that takes effect on their end.

I believe paying the fee is what cements you on the next-seat list or whatever it is.

Can anyone who is on the next-seat avalaible list describe or show me what they see on their home page? Does it appear as if you have been accepted, with next steps, and did you get a notice regarding your financial aid offer?

What I am trying to figure out is whether if all the acceptance stuff is for next year, or if I got off the waitlist this year?

I’m in the totally same boat, my last update was when they offered me the next seat available position. My portal does say thank you for submitting your deposit and has the next steps tab and resources, but that is it. I also received the financial aid email, I got excited when I saw it, but I think it may just have been automatic :/
