Do any current UVM medical students have insight to share about JumpStart VIC before orientation? Is it best to attend this in-person?

I got a lot of value of going in person. Good way to learn the campus and meet some of your classmates + seniors!

Also the professor who teaches it teaches the first semester course.

Also had a question about this! Wanted to do in person but have a week where I have to go back home (my mom is having surgery). Do you know if it'd be worth it to reach out and ask if I can attend part of it virtually and be there otherwise?

They'd probably be fine with this. Dr. Everse is amongst the chillest and most earnest that walk this earth.

Would anyone be able to DM me the accepted students group chat if it exists? I saw there is an FB page in the acceptance material, but I don't have a profile on FB.

Last year, people got As well into June and a few in July. A big A wave went out the past week or two, so some people will withdraw from that and another will go out soon. Probably getting to the end of the line soon though.

Would I be able to just call admissions offices for my WLs and ask where I sit on the waitlist and if it’s on the end just withdraw?

I believe the initial Vermont WL email stated they could not disclose that information.
"Please note that the admissions office staff will not disclose the number of applicants on the waitlist. In addition, we cannot make predictions as to the movement of the waitlist or an applicant's chances of admission in a given season so please keep this in mind if you contact the admissions office."

Very few schools work this way, and I don't believe UVM gives out specifics like this. They have people in different buckets based off of certain attributes like someone has a lot of research vs community service vs cool stuff they've done professionally. So if a Research Type Accepted Student decides to withdraw, they're going to extend the next invite to someone in the Research Bucket even if there's a Community Service Bucket person that's maybe "higher ranked" on an overall numerical scale for Group B. Hopefully that makes sense.

How many students are in the Facebook group? Any new people in the group in the past month?

SEveral "welcome our new matriculants" posts in the past couple weeks. The page count isn't accurate because it includes admins and upperclassmen, currently mid 160s population.

I'm curious what everyone thought of the MMI Kira interview + the group activity that Vermont had us complete. Did you guys have positive or negative opinions?

Not going to lie, I've been crashing out all day and pondering just where the app went wrong. It was definitely disappointing to be placed on the Delayed Decision list for 8 months only to be told I'd get shuffled on the WL. That has led me to question if my point of weakness was at the MMI. One on hand I do see the logic of being able to see how your future students react in stressful or dilemma style situations - it's a really great screener for seeing who can adapt or who has prior experience in such matters. On the other hand, some of those questions I feel as though they were testing concepts that should be taught in med school, e.g. I am not aware how to fix the massive issue of bloated US healthcare systems, but I'm hoping that attending this institution would teach me.

I feel you my friend. I thought one of my 9 MD interviews would convert to an A. I’m grateful for the DO acceptance that I’m taking. But trust me everyday I wonder what went wrong. As for the MMI my group session had students trying to outshine each other it was hard to ever get a full thought out so I think it depends on your group

Do y'all think that there will be more movement this cycle for waitlisted folks?
If you look back at the past few years, there seems to be a bit of movement after the CTE date. I’m guessing we’ll get one last small wave by the end of this upcoming week, but then after that, I feel like odds are pretty poor. Who knows though!!

I just called admissions. Unfortunately, looks like they have a fully committed class without much likelihood of movement. Pretty heart broken right now
