Amy and Jason had rejoined their friends at the library earlier in the day.
Despite the disagreement the previous night, they made up quickly and were back on track to their research.
Sarah, the engineering student, and Leonard, the English student, had stayed at the library for the entire night.
They had not gotten very far, but had come across detailed descriptions of previous failed attempts at time travel.
Sarah was feeling pretty confident that she was able to dissect where each of them went wrong.
"See, this Physics professor had attempted, and his calculations for the time and space overlay seem correct but when it came to actually calibrating his vortexer, he didn't have the right magnitude of power and it just... fell apart. He didn't build his equipment right." she had explained to Jason and Amy. But, Sarah she didn't know where to get electrical chips or generators capable of that high enough power, either. From that point onward, the time at the library was spent predominantly organizing data from their resources, at least for others, while Sarah worked on what she felt like were appropriately blueprints for a time travel machine. Now that it was late in the afternoon the gang started to feel drained and hungry. Amy told them that she wanted to take a break, and was going to go back to Rick's apartment. He had extended the offer for the two of them to stay a couple more nights, if they needed to. Leonard spoke up and said that it seemed like a bad idea to be staying with a stranger from another decade. Sarah echoed him, and expressed her concern that they'll be held back if Rick finds out where they're really from. Nonetheless, Amy ultimately left, and they all agreed to meet back at the library at four thirty.

It wasn't until a quarter after five that the three saw Amy approaching. She had earbuds in and a smile on her face.
"What are you wearing?" Sarah tried to ask Amy, though she didn't seem to hear her. "
WHAT are you wearing?" She raised her voice, and pointed to the ear phones and a device in her pocket.
"Oh, the Walkman? The guy that we're staying with lent it to me. My mom had one of these when I was growing up. It's kind of fun."
She grabbed the earbuds and pulled them out of Amy's ears.
"Don't get too comfortable here. We ARE going to get home."
"What was that for?" Amy asked, irritably. "It's just music."
"It's not about the music. It's about the fact that you're okay with the idea of staying here."
Amy rolled her eyes. "I didn't
ever say that."
"Then prove it. Give it to me."
Amy glared directly into Sarah's eyes, resentment burning through her stare. Begrudgingly, she handed over the Walkman.
Sarah took it and threw it to the floor.
Dead is
Amy would never be able to confess that earlier, when they were supposed to be problem solving, she became distracted while watching Backstreet Boy music videos.
