Acceptance Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an offer from Miami U of Ohio yesterday afternoon 🙂

Congrats! Who will you be working with? (I didn't apply there but went there for undergrad so just interested 🙂 )

Hi Guys,
I will respond to the droves in this one:

Loyola-- I wrote my POI yesterday. He informed me he made offers Tue or Wed. I am on the waiting list.

DePaul-- I got a form e-mail from DePaul saying their offers went out yesterday. I am also waitlisted.

Pitt--I wrote my POI last week (early) he told me that "I ought to accept another offer" which I felt was a de facto rejection... I believe their offers went out in FEB sometime.

Notre Dame-- yay, I got in 🙂

Got an acceptance today via phone call from the director. 🙂 Not my first choice, but it is nice to know that SOMEONE wants me!!😎

I got an email from Buffalo's combined counseling & school psych program yesterday evening, and a phone call today from Illinois State U's school psych program offering me a spot off the waitlist and funding. Yea!

I got an acceptance to Loyola College in Maryland (PsyD) last week via the good old postal service.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

I don't know too much about the school, but I had some friends who looked into it and said it was a great program. Most ended up ruling it out due to research match issues in the end, but they all really liked the program itself.

WTF! M'thinks I'm going to spontaneously combust.

I just received an admissions offer from NIU (off the wait list)!!!

I cannot believe that I also just screamed like a little girl. I am in no way a "girl-y" person (even though I am indeed female). So, I call my husband to share the good news. First, he answers the phone with "hold on". I continue jumping around the house.

Good thing my child is not home as it was 10x worse than when I got an interview offer from there (top choice!) and he told me, "Mommy, I know you're excited but you really need to calm down and stop jumping around the house." HE'S SIX!

hehe, anyway, husband then comes back on the phone to tell me he's busy and can it wait. Grrrr . . . As everyone I know is otherwise occupied, SDN gets to bear the grunt of my currently overly excited self!

Congrats, you TRULY deserve it. PM on the way momentarily.

congratulations paramour!!! and you didn't believe that people could come off waitlists, yet here you are giving the rest of us waitlisters hope!

YAYYYY!!! I'm so excited for you!!!! Congratulations, you definitely deserve it! You're gonna be great.

Congrats on the acceptance Paramour!!! How exciting!

You give me hope. I'm pretty sure I'm (post-interview) wait-listed at Kent, and I loved it there. So maybe...🙄

i thought I'd publically post this, for those of us who are still slogging through waitlists... CONGRATS, paramour, btw:

Several folks have asked me how I went about asking profs about my status.
Here is an example e-mail I wrote to my top choice:

Hi Dr. Rejectsalot,
I hope you're doing well.
I wanted to shoot you an e-mail to check in about decisions at University of Fatchance.
After visiting, I was very impressed with U. FatChance's program and it quickly rose to the top of my list. Having received some positive information
from another school, I'd like to, if possible, know where I stand with
you guys so I can make some informed decisions.

Have the decisions for admission been made at U. FatChance, as of yet? If so, where do I stand?

Thanks so much for the information, and thanks for setting up a great
interview weekend 🙂
Sincerely,

Psychhopeful123

I hope this is helpful. All profs wrote me back thanking me for checking in. They tend to like proactive students, methinks.

Thanks, everyone!

OLLIE: I knew a few others who were not planning on accepting if they were offered the opportunity because of the location itself. Not too many seemed impressed with the place. It helps that I come from an extremely small area, so it's still larger for me.

And, then there were the 2-3 unfortunate souls who came out of their interviews crying. I suspect that some of the profs were trying to "stress interview" some of the applicants . . . and it apparently worked for some because they were not too happy when they left.

I am slightly disappointed, however, that my initial POI is not accepting students for this upcoming year. My research interests align with his much better than my other two POIs--but they were still in related areas and both were willing to allow me to work on something not within their exact area of expertise, as long as it remained somewhat within their research parameters. I've also been advised that there may still be the opportunity to work with the initial POI to some extent, particularly since final decisions about which professor you end up with are not made until after the first semester. We shall see!

TKJ: No, I haven't accepted yet (but will soon). I was leaving to go teach a class when I received the email. I wanted to put a bit more thought into writing the email than the "thank you for accepting me, yippee!" initial response they would have likely received at the time. 😀

IRISH & RAYNEE: Yes, I did deserve it. The massive donation I made immediately afterwards sure did help! 😎

I am joking by the way.

TXPSYCH & PSYCHWANABE: I've never been a fan of wait lists--as most here can attest to. :meanie: I've had horrible luck with them in the past, and wasn't expecting much this time around. It's been excruciating to watch others post their acceptances off wait lists, while I sit here attempting to ignore the obsessive impulse to check my email for something I just know will not be there. (On a side note, spam that says "congrats, congratulations, you're accepted, or you're invited" should be BANNED!) I seem to be able to wish everyone else luck and can find plenty of optimism for others, but not for myself. Ah, well.

PSYCHOPEFUL123: I never planned on emailing to inquire about my wait list status until closer to April, but I was plenty impatient on this one. So, I did email the program director to ask if she could tell me where I was ranked on the wait list or at least which wait list I was on (since they had previously indicated it was a two-tier list) because they were my top ranked school and I would like to know the likelihood of being offered a spot. I received a very positive response, but I was wondering all along if they gave everyone the same reply just to get us obsessive types of their backs. 😀 So, yeah, good advice about checking up on those pesky wait list statuses . . . unless they come back and tell you that you should probably find another place to go. I suppose that would suck. But at least you'd know!

hehe, anyway, thanks again, everyone! I'm really glad that I do not have to worry about taking the GRE again, studying for the subject GRE, or applying for fellowship positions or crappy jobs now . . . well, except for a summer job.

And, G'LUCK to all of those you still awaiting to hear positive news! :luck:

EDIT: I swear I won't hijack the thread again--but I'm the keeper of the list, so I suppose I get an extra posting or two. 😀

Yaaaaay paramour!!!!

I'm generally not a big believer in karma, but it's so nice when things work out for wonderful, supportive SDNers like you!

Congratulations!

Congratulation Paramour! It is like a party here thanks to you!

There are so many school initials. Just to be sure which school in NIU?

Also, how long have you been going through this process- I can't remember from reading so many other posts?

I loved your sample email. You've inspired me to send out some inquiries to people I've been too cowardly to contact. 🙄 "U. FatChance" totally made me smile, which is a big deal since I seem to be scowling 24/7 lately!

Hey everyone
I'm new to the site but it sure wouldve been helpful to have known about it through the app process

I got accepted at U. Miss PhD clinical program. 🙂 YAY! it was my top choice. I also got waitlisted at U southern Miss but pulled out when I accepted Ole miss's offer.

I never got rejection letters from several schools, they couldn't extend the courtesy of telling me I wasn't worth their time, so I called them and told them I accepted another offer and officially withdrew my application. 😉

Just received a voice mail and email offer from Indiana University-Purdue University-Inidanapolis. Just to give people hope, I applied to 20 schools two years ago and only received one non-funded offer from a school I didn't feel I matched well with and was on several school's waitlists. This time around I have done so much better (Three offers and still waiting to hear from my fourth school). I am so happy that this is my third and now last time applying!!!!! I don't think I could do it again. If you didn't get an offer this year, don't give up.🙂 🙂

Hey - congrats on your acceptances. Your tenacity is admirable! I don't know that i could keep trying three years in a row. Good luck! :luck:

. . . unless they come back and tell you that you should probably find another place to go. I suppose that would suck. 😀

Actually, my top choice POI "advised me to accept another offer" That was a total bummer...

Congrats again on the waitlist acceptance... I am so thrilled to hear you so happy 🙂🙂

Even though I don't post that much... I really love hearing about all of y'all's successes!

Thanks!

And, NIU is Northern Illinois University--It is hard to keep up with all the programs when there are so many of them that everyone's applied to.

This was my second app cycle. I had actually recently started preparing for my third cycle already. I suppose I can get rid of that psych GRE book now. 😀

Yeah, I remember reading that on another thread. I thought that totally sucked. 🙁 I think some programs/profs are definitely better at giving you the bad news over others. They may not mean much (to some) but at least you don't feel completely incompetent.

G'luck! :luck:

I agree--the sample was good for a temporary refrain from the normal scowling self. I think it would be even more amusing though if someone actually emails their program with those exact words--U FatChance and Prof Rejectsalot and all!

hehe, great idea! I still have 7 rejections outstanding. M'thinks this is a good time to email them to "withdraw my app for consideration". Who cares that they're really not considering me! 😀

not sure if to put it on the acceptance or rejections, but i got an email that i am on a waiting list in TC clinical.

Lakan, How was the TC interview? I was invited to it, but didn't end up going.

The interview was very pleasant. I had already met the POI a few months ago. Why did you end up not going?

Okay, I just received an email from one of the profs I interviewed with at Northern Illinois wanting to confirm that I had received an offer from the program director. And, I thought I was obsessive with wanting to check up on every little detail.

I didn't go because my flight was cancelled. Also, I had already received an offer from my first choice, so I didn't sweat trying to find a last minute plane ticket too much.🙂

They confirmed that you had gotten the offer when you had already accepted the offer? I guess that works 🙂.

Hi
Congrats to Notre Dame. Regarding Loyola, are you refering to Loyola Chicago?
Thanks,
sadika

i emailed the department recently and received a response saying because this coming week is spring break at penn state no decisions will be made until after spring break. i'm on a wait list and hoping to hear something one way or the other soon. good luck.

nssrgrad07 - thanks for the info.. did you find out that you were on the waitlist by emailing them or did they contact you? jeez they really are taking their time..

iris07- i emailed them. and yes, they really are taking their time. it has become a little annoying waiting for schools to give answers.

Has anyone heard anything officially from BU??? I am considering emailing my POI....

On the destination thread, someone said they will be attending BU. Might want to PM them.

I emailed my POI a while ago. Sounds like they've alreayd made decisions and notified people who were accepted. I'm not sure if they've contacted waitlisted people (my POI offerred someone admission and that person immediately accepted, so there was no waitlist for me)

has anyone heard from yeshiva combined school-child clinical psyd?

I know a few people have heard and were accepted late last week. I know they are not sending out the "official" acceptances until mid-week, but they have began to notify people.

I was accepted at URI, Yeshiva Clinical Health and Univ. of Hartford so far.

I called Yeshiva this morning, because they had said at my interview that we would be notified on/about March 12. The guy in admissions said they sent out acceptance letters "a few days ago", though couldn't remember exactly what day (so helpful!). He also said the rest of the letters would go out by April 1.

I'm starting to feel discouraged, as nothing came in the mail today...
