Well they are right now... what happens when cases keep increasing and then hospitalizations start creeping up again?

If my August dates get bumped, again, I would be dangerously close to just saying screw it and taking Level/Step 2 after I apply to residency and just not caring what I get.

I doubt the CE gets cancelled but PE is toast for sure. Honestly I took my CE a few days ago at full capacity with the only difference being that we all wear masks and they clean stuff more haha Highly recommend getting one you can breathe in. I wore my fishing buff and it was a godsend cuz I could move it around and breath without taking it off my face at all

Nothing will happen because sadly our government doesn’t care anymore. I doubt Prometrics does either cause you know $$$ from tests to keep Prometrics going. It’s mask up and social distance and go on with life.. the PE however is another thing due to the invasive nature of that test, that is toast and the nbome is in the wrong in that 100%, they will have to eventually have to cancel it in my honest opinion.
 
Just had a preceptor’s husband die 2 days after being diagnosed with Covid. Only 39, non-smoker, no major health issues. Very sad, and also puts this majorly into perspective for me. I’m 36, we both had kids, very similar in terms of health. Makes me scared. Preceptor is understandably distraught, thinks she might quit medicine altogether. F*ck the NBOME for not being more reasonable with all of this crap man. Sick of it.

Exactly! No matter how “safe” they make it with “new protocols” (?????), we have to travel by airline, Uber, and hotel to be there.

The NBOME are cowards plain and simple. They passed on all responsibility onto the student "to cancel and reschedule if they feel unsafe" while doing nothing themselves to acknowledge the problem we face of needing PE for the match. Gimpel went so far as to delete his twitter he is so afraid to face the reality of the situation. Their actions are a disgrace to the entire Osteopathic profession. The blatant disregard for medical students and the general publics well being during this time in order to pad their own pockets is the biggest display of hypocrisy. They are morally and ethically bankrupt.

They will mail you a face shield without a mask and swab you at the testing site. They will then charge another $200 after the exam!!!

Hahah you are giving NBME too much credit. I have been emailing them including the top people and no response or very generic "we are working on it and will update you in few weeks...this has been many few weeks lol.... Tho I have to agree they are faster at canceling CS than NBOME.
 
It absolutely blows my mind that the NBME cancelled Step 2 CS almost a month ago and the NBOME still hasn't follow suit. An organization led by "physicians" during a pandemic should understand public health better than the general public. I hope in time that they'll meet their great demise. Their motive is obvious. They're putting their greed above the safety of the public, including their own students. It makes me sick.

I remain wholly convinced this is the beginning of their death roll. In all reality they are fighting for the entire DO profession to keep existing the way it is currently. Think about it, the AOA, NBOME, AACOM, etc had 3 pillars of power if you will: Accrediting undergraduate medical education (DO Schools), licensing all the DO students (COMLEX), and accrediting GME programs for the DO student population to keep propagating their DO-ness.

Well they already lost control of DO GME accreditation, and if they lose COMLEX then I'm not sure that accrediting DO schools to pump out DO students would be enough to actually remain in existence.

Ironically their behavior over PE could very be the nidus for sweeping changes to the system because of the outrage. If they just did what the NBME did then this discussion probably doesn't ever gain much steam.
 
I know people brought up contacting a lawyer but why don't we contact the media? There has to be a journalist somewhere that would be willing to write an article about this ridiculousness and how unfairly the NBOME is treating us all. If anyone can get the NBOME to cave its the media.
 
Now when I think about it I'm starting to think the plan is to just keep delaying the exam on this 3 month basis until things get back to some kind of new normal.

I have a feeling in september the "reopening" will just get delayed into December

It's interesting because they cannot do that many exams in that time especially when you consider the M3s need it too. They are just going to keep kicking the can down the road until they get hit by a dump truck.

They could do the sane thing and just cancel the exam though.

Thats what blows my mind when Gimple mentioned there is no plan to have remote testing. Even our branch campus is capable of proctoring the PE. I'm confident most schools are capable of providing this test.

If you are going to be adamant about this test, you should have a plan in place instead of hoping things return to normal.
 
When the NBME cowers in the face of a global pandemic and cancels its lousy CS exam, the NBOME forges ahead and bravely risks the well-being of students and their families in order to keep the precious PE exam alive. That's the DO difference™.

Our school could totally provide this test too. The have a CSE suite with 12 equipped rooms, and plenty of standardized patients.

My school have that and I believe most schools do...but that is not the problem. The problem is if we do it at school. Who would pay for their yatches and houses on the beach?
 
I haven't been following the last few days. My NBOME page shows a $1300 "voucher" since my August PE got cancelled. Is it worth trying to call them and see if i can get a refund? My school doesn't require PE to graduate.

Do it. With CS there is a theory out there that one reason the NBME acted so quickly was there was an increasing amount of students that were calling their credit card companies to dispute the charges and some were successful.

new comlex PE performance data released for 2019-2020. Overall pass rate 91.7%, FT pass rate 92.1%. The lowest pass rates in the 16 years this exam has been administered. DO students as a whole are arguably a stronger cohort than those 15 years ago. The pass rates on all the other Comlex exams have trended upwards. The PE is the lone exception. The NBOME earned ~$780K just from re-takers of the PE last year.

it’s all a scam. they’re finally being exposed. Not canceling it this year is the death blow.

I'm scheduled to take it ON September 1... Honestly at this point my fear is that they're going to be too stubborn and just buckle down and start having them then, then end up cancelling again after people start getting sick or if the outcry is finally too much for them. Especially with that downtrend on the pass rate, I'm petrified of then becoming one of the unlucky people who fails and has no opportunity to make it up before match.
 
I failed the PE with no chance of retaking before I apply and I fear I will be screened out from many programs this cycle due to the fail filter. Also reached out to gimpel and he said he refuses to blind scores because it violates ERAS rules which is BS. Anyone else in a similar situation? I am thinking about just releasing my step scores then release comlex scores mid cycle after it gets past the "Fail" filters. Especially with this cycle PDs will probably recieve a record number of apps due to the COVID uncertainty. My biggest fear in doing this however is that residencies think that I failed level 1 and I am hiding it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would do this if I were in your situation. I mean this is such a difficult situation to be in. Can any PD or resident reading this chime in? Sorry to hear this OP

Its probably literally one ****ing click of a button to allow that option to applicants at least for this cycle as I am sure many like me are stuck with a fail with no chance to retake. This dude really likes to torment students and see them suffer and beg. PDs could care less about his useless advocacy when they will recieve a record number of apps that they will even have less time to review and will apply all possible filters to get that down to a reasonable number they can review.

Gimple and the NBOME have made several statements that contradict what the NBME and FSMB have been saying, yet he is "having regular meetings with the nbme". The NBOME and Gimple are not trustworthy sources, their bias has obstructed their ability to tell the truth.

I am scheduled in September as well and this is my fear. Almost makes me want to push it back until after rank lists. I do have a question though lets assume the worst and say I fail in September. Programs would already have my comlex transcript prior to that fail showing up. Isn't it true I could just not re release my new comlex transcript to programs and they would hav no idea I even took the exam? I know that sounds a bit shady but it seems like taking it earlier is a huge risk with minimal reward at this point...
 
It’s just a moneymaker and they really don’t care about anything other than money. Covid is rising. The test and travel to the test isn’t safe. They don’t care.

Taking the test early is definitely more a risk now than it was in January for those reasons you mentioned. You could not release the newest score, provided you have released your previous scores before at ERAS opening. However, that opens another can of worms: if you get asked about scores during interviews you definitely have to tell the truth and say you've got a new one...they may ask why you didn't disclose that sooner etc. You see what I'm saying
