Not totally sure, but I kind of feel like if they’re still unaware by that point and screen out anyone without a PE, they’re going to notice that it cuts out a huge chunk of applicants that were otherwise great candidates.
This is the reason why it is mind blowing to me that NBME/NBOME/ERAS/ any of medicine leadership organizations think that just because they will include in on ERAS applications about what is going on with CS/PE, PDs will actually aware of the cancellation/changes and will take that into consideration and give applicants fair changes to match...I don't know if this is what we should call ignorance to its finest or just simply don't give a ****...I waste no second when I receive an email from one of these entities promoting fairness or whatever...to delete their emails.
This post is making me sick to my stomach... All because some POS won't do the right thing. In a process with little control to start, the class of 21 has had theirs reduced by 90%.
this is ridiculous advice. 75% of DO's should just extend their graduation date? that's how many DO students in the class of 2021 won't have a PE before applications go out.
I’m gonna go the route of just politely asking during interviews what the programs policies on the PE/CS are and if they’re unaware of the current issues with delays respectfully informing them that cancelations have made having a score before rank impossible. If enough people do this while on the trails they’ll become informed.
It’s possible the majority of DO students are going to apply for residency this year without a PE while most ACGME PDs don’t care, or are oblivious, about the circumstances. I wouldn’t risk it, personally. For those who attend programs with decent research options - it is something to look into.
You would think those who are leaders have at least some common sense and intelligence to do this right? But the reality is no....they don’t for whatever reason.

It doesnt really make sense that PDs would require PE for DO students but not CS for MD students. They do know its the equivalent right? Can PDs seriously lack the basic knowledge to require the exam for DOs but not MDs? If they choose to filter based on PE/CS that will severely cut down their interview pool to dismal numbers since 70-80% of the entire app pool didnt take either. Logically I would think or at least hope that the CS/PE will be a non factor. What about the the MD students who are stuck with a fail for 2 app cycles? Will they seriously destroy thousands of career potentials due to a bull$hit exam that they didnt even have to take? What a Joke....This has been more stressful then level 2/step 2 combined.
I agree with your sentiment but your perspective is wrong regarding comparing CS to PE. There are two reasons PDs care about these two exams. First, in a normal year it gives them a way to weed out people with failures (or no repeat pass by interview and ranking) to make the applicant pool smaller. Secondly, they care because previously it was required to get licensed and sit for step 3/level 3. If a student didn't have this done then it is no guarantee that the student will have it done after contractually matching with the student but before graduation. That leads to the possibility of having an intern with licensing issues and needing time off work to take the exam (read:headache).
Good points. So you're saying that they wont care about an MD with a failed CS because they can take step 3 without it? I mean didnt COCA release a statement saying we can graduate without the PE...but it seems like most PDs are not aware of that. Also, I think MDs will still have to take CS at some time because there is no way they are letting that much profit slip from them and they will have to do so during residency. I definitely agree that if he just delayed it for the same duration as CS then we would finally be viewed as equals in that regard.
I'll preface this by reiterating that this is just my perspective.

And one more outraged post from me to fuel my anxiety over something so simple to fix: In true NBOME fashion I expect them to postpone or cancel the exam again AFTER ERAS has opened which will negatively affect the application season even if the thing is canceled. It's too perfectly terrible for these incompetent fools not to do. They can't resist.

I guess its human nature to be lazy and take the path of least resistance. Oh well looks like many more will be soaping this year. I just give up on this $hitty money hungry process and system that looks to always use others for its self benefit. Honestly....just tired of competing. Anyways good luck to all this cycle.

Based on how inept they are, we will get an announcement on October 31st... "We heard you! Based on student feedback, PE has been delayed to January 1st, 2021. Also, fail rate is increased to 50% so you can take it again to make up for our lost profits."
Seriously though, why is it I could actually see them failing more people in order to recoup their losses by forcing make ups?? And the worst part is, no matter what they decide to do, even if it is as ridiculously currupt as failing extra people to force retakes, there is not a damn thing any of us can do about it. This whole dictatorship has got to be illegal under some law somewhere... extortion, coercion, racketeering, any law people out there??? We have got to stop these people. Why do they control our lives financially And professionally with no oversight?
MDs do not have to take CS this year... It was waived as a requirement completely. A tiny subset of MDs managed to fail CS before it was cancelled whereas MOST DOs haven't even taken PE and won't before rank lists. I don't know how to make this clearer???

So there's this group @EthicalStudents, they're apparently a group of premeds that brought their MCAT issue to the staffers of Senator Warren and Rep. Ro Khanna. That's how you move the needle with these orgs, arm twisting and a little dose of good ol' government regulation threat.
there's no penalty to cancel last minute in 2020. if someone were to develop sx 24 hrs before the test, there is no penalty for last minute cancellation. my personal hope is that all november/december test takers cancel ~24-48 hrs before their test dates.
Idk, not having a passed PE could hurt people (including myself) if PDs aren't aware of the situation we've been put in by our crappy leadership. I'm planning on talking to the PD I'm working with this rotation to see what he knows/inform him of the issue
