For financial aid, if we are on the waitlist, all we need to worry about is the FAFSA, right? We'll take care of everything else that is school specific, after we are accepted. Is this correct??
 
This afternoon, I officially won the battle over my residency classification in Alabama for UAB. Total savings over four years: $132,000.

I will tell South Alabama to remove me from their alternate list as soon as possible.

Congrats LJ! I can't believe they didn't consider you in state from the start, but I'm glad it worked out for you.

Just like to add that a guy I know got in this past Monday (5/4), he was on the upper tier. He is also on the USA waitlist, but I'm almost positive that he is going to UAB.
 
grats LJ, it was pretty ridiculous that they ever considered you out of state.

I just telephoned South Alabama this morning and notified them that I no longer wish to remain under consideration for admission. I hope that will actually help someone, but I could very well have been the last name on the waitlist anyway.

Four more years in the Salty Ham for me.

Am I mistaken, or are all of the acceptance dates on Mondays or Thursdays? Is this just a coincidence, or are these days the days that they accept from the alternate list?

How many of you are still on the first tier and haven't gotten in yet? How many know others who are on the first tier and haven't gotten in?

Looks like no $$$ for me. I emailed and asked if scholarships are out, and they are. I'll be withdrawing from UAB on or before 5/15. I hope someone on here gets my spot.
 
Does anyone know if scholarships have been released for South Alabama? Also, it seems like the white coat ceremony at south is at the end of first year. Can anyone confirm this?
 
chemnerd, your friend who got off the waitlist at UAB, what was his status at South?

Yea, I just called and it is at the end of 2nd year. strange.

In other news, South has not released any scholarships. They said that since the money is so tight this year they are having trouble figuring out how to divide it. They are trying to give out as many scholarships as normal, but for less money.
 
Hey everyone I have a question, so if we were to be accepted to one school after May 15th, and does by putting down the depoit to that school means that you have to withdraw from an alternate list of another school that you are still waiting on?
 
I was accepted from the alternate list today. I plan on telling USA that I am withdrawing, soon. Did I perhaps get your place, Chemnerd89 (Birmingham campus assignment)?

No, you are allowed to be on the alternate list of as many schools as you want. You are supposed to be on the accepted list of only one school after May 15.

Congratulations! I guess your theory about all the acceptances from the waitlist coming out on Monday and Thursday has been proven false! Are there any more people out there on the upper tier that still haven't received an acceptance?

Not that I know of.... what tier are you on?
 
I am on lower tier and on the waitlist at South as well. I am not holding out much hope for UAB, I'm just hoping it moves enough to open up some spots at South for me.

Probably going to be informing them that I am not interested in the next few days. I'm sold on USACOM...going house hunting in Mobile today actually. Plus, UASOM gave me the Tuscaloosa assignment. I just spent 4 years in Tuscaloosa...I think in 2 years I'll still be burned out on it.
 
I really really liked the medical program at UAB as well as the students (they were awesome). However, due to major difference in out of state cost in tuition. I have decided to withdraw from UAB. Good luck to all of you guys on the waitlist! Great school!
 
So how many people do we have on this forum who are on the second tier? I don't remember many saying they were when the waitlist first came out. First time posters, don't be shy.

Since I am bored at work, I went back and looked at older posts to see who got put on the middle tier at UAB. From what I gather, it is

angelhair
wiseguy1
hsvfixed
amazingfunksta's girlfriend
docbama's girlfriend

And I believe that the bottom 4 all hold an acceptance to USA. If they could give up an update on where they leaning and if they had heard anything, that would be great.

My girlfriend has been accepted at USA, but is likely to go to UAB if she gets in.
 
Yes, I am on the middle tier, but no I did not get accepted at South. (I was told my MCAT arrived too late, even though it was there by mid-September). I really don't know what to think of all this movement before the 15th. The last couple of years, there was almost no movement at all before the 15th, even last year, when they dipped all the way into the middle tier on May 16th, there wasn't any movement until that day. I really wished I knew how close they were to the middle tier right now. Oh well, I don't expect to hear much until Monday or Tuesday...
 
Well it is decision day for a lot of people. I still haven't heard any more from UAB than, "the committee is reviewing your application" and I am set to meet with Dean Smith on Wednesday.
