Short answer is yes.
Long answer is yes but the probability depends on your state of residence.

Ugh freaking out! Got a 29 (11/8/10 on a retake from a 24) and a 3.94 gpa. NY resident/non-URM. Finished all secondaries by first week of October now in the waiting game. When should I hear back from schools and do I have a chance?
4th II today! 3 DO 1 MD
Anyone know of any Wisconsin residents getting into MD schools with a sub 30 MCAT score?
Congrats on the two ii. OSU is by far my number 1 choice and would to have the chance to interview their. We actually have very similar stats, 27 3.92 s and 3.9c, but I am non-urm. However, your post gives me hope!! Good luck on your interviewsMy application was only truly complete when my second set of MCAT scores were released on 10/15, although I had all other parts of the majority of my applications complete since early September. I have received two interview invitations so far, from The Ohio State University (received 10/19), and from Temple University (received 10/18). I have a 27 MCAT score, 3.97 cGPA, 3.95 sGPA, good EC's,, and was highly recommended by my school's committee. I'm also a URM. Hopefully I get more II's.
Out of curiosity, did you fly out for this interview or did you skype or something? I'm not considering this route but just thinking about the travel, it's $1-2k minimum a pop!27 MCAT in at Australian MD, there is hope if you're willing to cross the pacific
MCAT
First attempt: 27(12/4/11) ....yes..a 4 in verbal..lol
Second attempt: 29(12/7/10)
3.65 science 3.68 overall
Applied to 15 schools. Landed 3 interviews so far (MU, CMS, SIU) and have 4 pre-interview rejections. Oh I also got an acceptance at CMS just yesterday!!!
There is hope people. Just sell yourself really well with applications and show that you have the potential to handle med school and come out a great physician!

Dear lalchand91, are these MD or DO schools mostly and are you URM?
Hey! I am not an URM and I am a traditional applicant!Dear lalchand91, are these MD or DO schools mostly and are you URM?
What does "AMCAS" stand for? Sorry , I am knew to this forum. Also in regards to fitness, mirin man. Outside of class and studying all I do is workout and play basketball. Is there anyway I can make that meaniful on my resume? (trying to walk on to my college D2 Basketball Team)NYMC, Drexel, EVMS, VCU/MCV, Downstate, Wayne State
As you can see, none of these are top schools, but who cares, they're all great programs IMO.
As for secrets, I really couldn't tell you. Some might call me lucky, I have 1 summer of clinical experience and the rest of my AMCAS is stuff I enjoy (fitness hobbies/jobs). IMO, if there was 1 strength to my application, it would be the fact that I was consistent with that 1 fitness aspect. It's what I truly love, and what drove my towards medicine, and I let schools know that in every way possible.
If you really want a secret, it would be to apply early and broadly, and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck y'all! You really don't need 30+ to get into medical school, although it would definitely help.
Edit: And Oh yea, play up your strengths as much as possible, not your weaknesses.

27 MCAT (<7 VR), 11 MD interviews (5 top tier), 2 MD acceptances, no post secondary rejections
Thanks!! I feel like I'm dreaming! I'll be releasing all my OOS interviews and acceptances though- hopefully they go to people who really need them!Wow, congratulations!
I have to ask, are most ppl on this thread URM? Because my stats are higher than many here and not even an interview invite. Yet we have ppl with avg gpas and mcat getting acceptances. Not trying to be insensitive but just trying to get a better picture is all.

Congrats!! USC is an amazing school!! 😀Thanks!! I feel like I'm dreaming! I'll be releasing all my OOS interviews and acceptances though- hopefully they go to people who really need them!
I am not URM. I think my slightly higher GPA helped even out my slightly lower MCAT score. (3.89 gpa, 29 MCAT) enough to get me an interview.....but who knows? This process does seem incredibly random sometimes.I have to ask, are most ppl on this thread URM? Because my stats are higher than many here and not even an interview invite. I am non-urm and i have a high gpa and low mcat. I agree the it is just random really and I think schools are looking at more then just stats.I have to ask, are most ppl on this thread URM? Sorry, but I have to disagree. While I understand your POV, I think most people who do ask about URM status, may be other non-URM 27-29 MCATers who would just like to get a realistic picture of their own chances. Let's all just support each other and not be so sensitive.
I think my high GPA helps, great ECs, LORs, URM, strong personal mission that people have told me stands outWhoa. What's your hook?
I am not going to dive deep into this because I don't want an amazing inspirational thread go crazy over this "status issue". But, I'll just say, if it didn't matter people would not be asking this question.
