Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
4.0 s+c GPA, 28 MCAT.. do i have a chance of getting an interview??

Hang I'm there! I also have a 28 mcat and am at two IIs at MD schools 🙂. Make every secondary essay count!

Ugh freaking out! Got a 29 (11/8/10 on a retake from a 24) and a 3.94 gpa. NY resident/non-URM. Finished all secondaries by first week of October now in the waiting game. When should I hear back from schools and do I have a chance?

You kinda waited a while to get those secondaries in; a lot of people already had multiple interviews by then. That isn't to say you're SOL though. It pretty much all depends on your EC's and where you applied. You could definitely get into some MD schools with those stats, some being the key word.

I have 2 MD, 3 DO IIs, and one DO acceptance, as of today.

29 MCAT, 3.85 cGPA, diverse ECs

Anyone know of any Wisconsin residents getting into MD schools with a sub 30 MCAT score?

My application was only truly complete when my second set of MCAT scores were released on 10/15, although I had all other parts of the majority of my applications complete since early September. I have received two interview invitations so far, from The Ohio State University (received 10/19), and from Temple University (received 10/18). I have a 27 MCAT score, 3.97 cGPA, 3.95 sGPA, good EC's,, and was highly recommended by my school's committee. I'm also a URM. Hopefully I get more II's.

Congrats on the two ii. OSU is by far my number 1 choice and would to have the chance to interview their. We actually have very similar stats, 27 3.92 s and 3.9c, but I am non-urm. However, your post gives me hope!! Good luck on your interviews

29 MCAT, 3.89 cGPA, 3.82 sGPA - got my first interview invite for next Friday - WOOHOO!

Of all places...sigh. Just kidding. Congrats on the acceptance.

Out of curiosity, did you fly out for this interview or did you skype or something? I'm not considering this route but just thinking about the travel, it's $1-2k minimum a pop!

No interview at UQ-O. I did get a flinders interview invite which was held in Canada for North Americans.

Otherwise only 3 medical schools in Australia interview at all (Flinders is one, I think if others do its held on Skype for North Americans) its not in their culture to interview candidates, they mostly view them as dog/pony shows.

Dear lalchand91, are these MD or DO schools mostly and are you URM?

NYMC, Drexel, EVMS, VCU/MCV, Downstate, Wayne State

As you can see, none of these are top schools, but who cares, they're all great programs IMO.

As for secrets, I really couldn't tell you. Some might call me lucky, I have 1 summer of clinical experience and the rest of my AMCAS is stuff I enjoy (fitness hobbies/jobs). IMO, if there was 1 strength to my application, it would be the fact that I was consistent with that 1 fitness aspect. It's what I truly love, and what drove my towards medicine, and I let schools know that in every way possible.

If you really want a secret, it would be to apply early and broadly, and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck y'all! You really don't need 30+ to get into medical school, although it would definitely help.

Edit: And Oh yea, play up your strengths as much as possible, not your weaknesses.
What does "AMCAS" stand for? Sorry , I am knew to this forum. Also in regards to fitness, mirin man. Outside of class and studying all I do is workout and play basketball. Is there anyway I can make that meaniful on my resume? (trying to walk on to my college D2 Basketball Team)

Hey guys, 27 3.75 with 3 DO interviews (2 acceptances, 1 pending), and 1 MD interview (accepted OOS) so far! Hope this helps!

27 MCAT here, 3.97 cGPA, 3.95 sGPA, great LOR's. Interviews from Temple University and Ohio State University so far.

USC and Brown rejection

UCR and UCLA interview invite.

Applied to 32 schools. Secondaries completed around end of september

29 MCAT (9/10/10), 3.84 cGPA, 3.87 sGPA, non-URM (Asian male, in fact), top 20 school, 1 publication under way (first author), tons of global health experience.
Got 2 MD interviews and 1 acceptance so far.

Good luck everyone! It's not all about the numbers, after all.

29 MCAT (11B/8P/10V), ~3.7 cGPA and sGPA. 3 MD II, 1 MD acceptance 🙂

This is my first post. Since this thread gave me hope when I was considering applying I thought I would leave a comment. Sub 30 MCAT: 6 MD interview invites and 1 DO II. I have attended 3 thus far. Numbers are only a portion of the overall application ( it's definitely hard to keep that in mind when your MCAT is subpar, but it has to be true based on my experience and the posts on this thread).

Being a part of this group rocks! We can do this ladies and gentlemen!

Update!
II: 3 DO 1 MD
Acceptances from 2 DO and waiting to hear from the MD

27 MCAT (<7 VR), 11 MD interviews (5 top tier), 2 MD acceptances, no post secondary rejections

I have to ask, are most ppl on this thread URM? Because my stats are higher than many here and not even an interview invite. Yet we have ppl with avg gpas and mcat getting acceptances. Not trying to be insensitive but just trying to get a better picture is all.

1. Stats aren't everything. The process is holistic.
2. Interviews haven't stopped yet. Just sit tight.

Thanks!! I feel like I'm dreaming! I'll be releasing all my OOS interviews and acceptances though- hopefully they go to people who really need them!
Congrats!! USC is an amazing school!! 😀

I am not URM. I think my slightly higher GPA helped even out my slightly lower MCAT score. (3.89 gpa, 29 MCAT) enough to get me an interview.....but who knows? This process does seem incredibly random sometimes.

I am non-urm and i have a high gpa and low mcat. I agree the it is just random really and I think schools are looking at more then just stats.

29 mcat, submitted secondaries in August. Recently accepted to MD. I am non URM

There's also a fuzzy URM category for some folk. I'm not URM according to AMCAS but the schools I've interviewed at explicitly stated in their diversity mission of the tour day that I am (my interviewers all commented significantly on my PS and LORs though ). Definitely many factors to consider 😛 😉

Maybe this sounds picky or a bit mean…..but asking people if they're URM after they state their excitement at II's or acceptances is almost like saying…well you achieved what you did because you're URM.

I maybe wrong but I feel like you're taking away the achievement that others have and are writing it off.

Anyways…..I have a 29 and I've been accepted by a MD school. I'm non-trad and was a Post Bacc student since I didn't have time to do my pre-reqs while completing my degree.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. While I understand your POV, I think most people who do ask about URM status, may be other non-URM 27-29 MCATers who would just like to get a realistic picture of their own chances. Let's all just support each other and not be so sensitive.

I'm not being sensitive but it's kinda an invasive question.

You don't have to compare your race to another to gage your chances. What does it matter if you're URM? The school I was accepted to actually stated that race isn't a factor in admission. So it wouldn't matter if I'm URM or not.

I am not going to dive deep into this because I don't want an amazing inspirational thread go crazy over this "status issue". But, I'll just say, if it didn't matter people would not be asking this question.
EDIT: Also FYI- http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/the-urm-advantage.895107/

fyi…..go read some mission statements. There are schools that specifically state that race is not a factor. Its a common myth that race alone will get you into medical school anyways.

All I'm saying is that asking someone if they're URM after they're excited about their accomplishments is the same as discrediting what they've done to deserve their II or acceptance.

Listen I think I should make clear I was not implying that being URM was the only reason ppl got in. I am certain many ppl who have lower grades and mcats than average come from disadvantaged backgrounds or have unique circumstances. But there is no denying the whole URM is not a factor, and I am well aware that there are schools that don't consider minority status, just as their are schools that are well known for considering minority status. Congrats to those who got in and I am sure they worked hard to do so, I had no intention of diminishing their accomplishment.
