alrighty.. FU.... CMS
count me in if you need the signature for the peptition but i am the second class citizen not sure whether i can sign the peptition or not hee hee :)
and speaking of UCLA parking ticket officers, they are the worst of the worst ppl in the world.. i got my most expensive parking ticket at UCLA b/c i thought who would still be awake in 2 am and giving out tickets. i parked my car in front of Powell ( you know where all those handicap street parking in front of Powell??) and i got a parking ticket for parking there, guess how much is it??
hint hint: it's way more than any of my speeding tickets so far.. :)

Hey Michelle,

My advice would be to not send in the money right now. I also had the option to hold a one bedroomw/den ($979/mo=deposit!) two weeks ago..and after struggling with that decision..I decided not to put up the deposit..which is non-refundable! Its just too much money..and I still have hopes in my waitlists. Besides, I think you will be able to find a roommate during orientation. I will be looking for a roommate myself (in a 2bed/2bath) but I would like to meet my future classmates before I do that..Otherwise its way too risky..you know? Also..I think Woodlands is really just out to get money from us poor students. I wonder how many people can afford $1000/month (for a single) when your entire budeget is $1200!

dude. Parking Services is on point. they will jack you when you least expect it. and please don't tell you parked in the Persian/Football ParkingLot?? i mean...the Handicap lot/street? (hahhaa...j/k, i ain't mad. b/c i had my own handi-permit at UCLA for a while....but i never took handicap spots. just meters)

but that is like a $500 fine, right??? damn. that's why i never felt bad trying to jack the system that was jacking me.

well, i called Temple today. it IS true that they take credit cards for tuitino payments. and at NO charge.

i got an email from CMS today. they said they do not do it, b/c one reason is that most credit card companies charge "retailer" a percentage on each transaction, (2.5 - 3% i think), and they do NOT want to pass that on to the students since tuition is already higher than Cheech and Chong.

and a 2% charge would not even be worth it to do. b/c 2.5% on $35K is like, $875. tho' you would get a free plane ticket at 24,000miles/$24,000, buying a ticket from chicago is much cheaper than that...

i guess i will have to petition it and get a policy change thru the proper channels of StudentCouncil. i emailed some people, but no responses yet. hopefully we can get CMS to foot the cc charge, too. (y'right).

i'll keep y'all posted.

I think you guys are funny. and if we all end up together at CMS, I think we will have fun even if we are in waukegan!
Its much more entertaining to read this thread than some of the others for more 'elite' schools. We all will be doctors.
and the other day I found that statistic about of all the applicants this year only about 1/3 will get in. So, yea for us :p

OK, now that everyone's awake, yes or no to paying that $1,139 deposit for the Woodlands?

Right now I'm leaning towards no and hoping my roommate will be normal.....unless you think I should secure the apt now and maybe find someone else to pay me 1K for my apt if I end up going somewhere else...how possible is that?

 Decisions suck!

p.s. Where is the roommate list? It was supposed to be out today

If I had to choose right now, I would not send it. Everything is still iffy, I think. You are on what, like 4 or 5 other waitlists, they might move. and even if they dont and you stay at CMS, I would rather find a roomate already with an apt, or find something else. I say this because I had roomate issues this past year because I signed the lease without having seen the apt, AND without really knowing my roomates...Lets just say it was quite stressful and a bit expensive in the end.
At this point I would be nervous to be signing a lease with a deposit when I am not sure I will be there.
BUt it is up to you and what you feel is best for you....

re: credit card payments. i talked to the StudentCouncil president today. he said he asked about it before and was told their policy is b/c of the 3% credit card service charge. and knowing CMS...i can totally see how they would NOT fott the charge for us...and would only pass it on to us. that is bunk.

but i will still try to see what i can do, and i have some leads now as to who to contact, and i will definitely get something going in StudentCouncil at the first meeting or something.

Foxy: if i were you, i'd do it. knowing me, i LIKE to have roots, and to NOT be up-in-the-air about things. especially about my home. the home is my sanctuary, so i like to have those kinda things settled. and second, apts at Woodlands are a commodity (i can't figure out why), and i'm sure you can break your lease and handle all those sticky ends when/if the time comes. lots of AP people withdrew during the school yr, and they all had their leases taken care of, one way or another. people are always looking to move or whatnot, and would totally take your apt off your hands for you. the waiting list for Woodlands is a miiiiillleee long. i'm sure anyone of them would take your apt.

but if you're not a wheeling-and-dealing kinda person, or if you don't like risking that much cash, then sit on it. and then you can try to find a roommate who already has a woodlands apt to take you.

but a word of warning. i have heard that the Woodlands is really shady. some of the all-school emails have been funny to read. about them jacking up their rent, and not doing much for their tenants, and taking adv of the students that HAVE to live there b/c of CMS, etc. there are other emails of warning too, about other apt complexes. so...just be careful. leases and deposits can be sticky things to deal with.

and last thing....a $1G deposit is really nothing, in the long run. you all have 4years of student loans to look forward to. $1G will not even compare.

Wow...you're out for the day and you miss a lot on this thread...haha. Anyways...Foxy Id go along with what FU is saying. I know of someone that was going to be in my MIS class (a really good friend of mine) who ended up then getting into med school in early August and was able to cancel his woodlands lease. I believe he was able to get the deposit back, but he did lose a month's rent. Like FU said, in the long run that money wont matter much if you're gonna be doing something to set your future. Im also of the sort that likes to have things settled and not up in the air...you'll definitely be able to find a place to live once you get to school but whether you'll get a place at the woodlands is another story. Who knows...there could be someone that might be in your shoes right now that'll get off the waitlist somewhere and need to cancel his lease...still that's risky. And trust me, FU is right, the apartments in the woodlands are a commodity indeed...there will always be someone ready to grab an apt that's vacated, especially mid summer. So anyways...that's my opinion. Id say you grab a place and get yourself set.

dude. Desi and i are ALWAYS right. we are almost damn near infallible.

please do not doubt us again.

Thank you boys :)

So, if I get in somewhere else, do you think the Woodlands would refund my money, or would I have to find someone on the roommate list to send me a check? That would be kinda shady, but maybe that's how things work?

My parents like the idea of me securing an apartment now, b/c they want to come with me to set my place up, and this way they wouldn't need to shell out $500 or so for a few nights in a hotel...stupid reason I know, but I'll probably end up going to CMS anyway...I mean it's almost July, time for final decisions!

And, I like to be in control. This way I can pick my own roommate and not desperately move into someone else's apartment. :)

I know you say the Woodlands are shady, but I like to be close to campus.....doesn't it snow a lot there? I'd rather not drive in bad weather. :p

Right on FU...we're the 2 wise Finch M1A's. We know all and see all :D

I'll try to talk to my friend tommorrow and get the real info for you Foxy but Im pretty sure he was able to get the deposit money back in the end (I dont think it was from the person who ended up taking his apt) but he did lose the first month of rent he paid. I'll talk to him and find out.

It definitely does snow a lot there....hehe. Last winter was pretty tame from what Ive heard the area normally gets, but for many people that was bad enough. Im used to it, being from New England so it wasnt a problem for me. But yeah one of the reasons I wanted to live in the woodlands was to avoid driving in the snow because I hate that. Scraping the snow off your car, shoveling it out...ugh. I absolutely can't stand it.

And I have to say...this thread is definitely so cool. It's cool to be meeting all you guys and helping you all get informed and stuff about the area and the school. Im also really looking forward to finally meeting and getting to know all you guys in person this July. Amma's right...next year could be pretty fun...

A few questions Desi:

I saw on apartments.com (on a north chicago search for woodlands) that they charge $100 a month for parking...if my roommate has a car, is that $50 each? Ugh, I naively thought it was free with the apartment.

And do they have covered parking spaces or a garage...and is that more money, or first come fisrt served on a daily basis?

Thanks for answering all my questions everyone. :)

Members don't see this ad :)
Foxy...parking is indeed free! The $100 is if you wanna rent out a garage space. That's $100 a month and you have to do that for a full year (so you can't rent one out for the winter only). Regular parking itself though is free and it's in an open lot. You get a parking sticker when you sign your lease with the woodlands and you have to keep that on your car to park in the resident spots (the spots closest to the apartments). It can be a pain at times because if you go somewhere and get home late you'll see your lot magically full and you'll wonder where half those cars come from...haha. At least that was the deal with me in the back most part of the complex and Id get stuck in a visitor spot. They make threats to tow violators but I dont know if Ive ever seen it happen. Anywhow...yeah Foxy, parking is free so dont worry about that. They're not that evil!!! Hehe

YAYAYAY!! Free Parking :D

I need a man to shovel the snow off my car now...

Oh...just to add. No need to really buy a shovel either. In the woodlands they leave one in the lobby of the bldg for residents to use and then put back. Id advise on bringing along or buying an ice scraper though. Maybe some de-icer too as Ive seen that stuff work wonders on really bad iced up windshields, although I just dont trust those chemicals and how they might react if they get on the paint. Oh well...the wonderous things you learn when living in WHACKEGAN :p

yeah, becuase I'm really worried about ruining the paint on my grandma's dented 93 camry

I finally have my own car! :D Woo-hoo!

I don't think they sell "de-icers" in Florida

Oh, I'm so excited. Now all I need is water-proof gloves to shovel the snow off my car! :D

dude, NO WAY would Woodlands, or any other sane apt manage give you money back! c'mon now.

most places have a penatly you must pay for early termination of leases. (like Northgate, those mothersuckers!) find out what Woodlands' policy on early termination is. but people do it all the time, so it happens and it is possible.

one month's rent sounds reasonable, as Desi says. and i think you'll have to also get someone to take over your lease/residence or you will keep paying rent. but...during July, you will NOT have a problem with re-occupying your apt.

and for SURE you want your parents to buy you stuff for you apt, and for your dad to help you move in!!!

dude. i thought i was going to die in the Chicago winter, b/c i'm such a west-coast wuss. if it's 55F at night, that means it's winter for me out here! but...seriously, it was NOT that bad, (though all the chicagoans say, it was a MILD winter, it was a mild winter). now...when it was 40F outside, i say "it's nice out!". i had to do a double-take one time when i said that....

snow: not that bad. they are on point with the salt and snow-blowers and snowploughs. they will plough that issh at like 4am and stuff! (i was up studying once and saw it mself!). ONLY if you are driving WHILE it's snowing, and they have NOT salted the roads, will you have cause for mild concern. but...yeah. i'm sure if all us californians made it....then ANYone can.

and i'm sure sometimes you'll wish you DID live further away from campus though. but other times, you won't. so it's give and take. i prefer the therapy of yelling/singing in my car as i drive AWAY from school. and i prefer NOT to spend my entire year within a two block radius of CMS/Woodlands. but to each their own.

Just to clarify, I'm not signing a lease just yet....I'm just paying a deposit to hold my apt, which happens to be equivalent to one month's rent. If I get in somewhere else, I won't lose more money than that; I can't get in anywhere else once school starts, so I won't be in the situation that Desi's friend was in (getting in early August)....soooo, since it's just a deposit, I know they won't give me money back, but at least I won't be responsible for paying a year's rent no matter what. :)

And if I do get in somewhere else, I bet I could find an anal premed like myself who would do anything to live in the Woodlands ( ), including sending a 1,000 dollar check to a crazy girl in Florida for her nice phase II, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. Right?

p.s. DesiMD, the woodlands lady told me the phase I apts were made in 87...what about phase II--when were those built?...and are those new, or just rennovated? Muchas gracias como siempre :)

FU...I dunno Im positive he got money back. I know it surprised me too when he told me but that is what I remember him saying. He cancelled in early August I believe and the woodlands told him that they had a lot of people waiting to take apartments so it was ok with them. He may have had a penalty but it's possible some of that was deducted from the deposit and he got what was left over. Again, Im not positive exactly what he got back, but Im positive he got something back and he did lose a month's rent. I'll check on this with him when I get a chance. Regardless though, the bottom line is that this is a doable thing.

As for what you said about being so close to school...yeah I'll admit that it does have it's downsides because sometimes you just wanna get away and want a reason to drive, but I found more advantages than disadvantages, especially in the winter. I kinda like the atmosphere there and in the winter it was fun to have snowball fights at random hours and stuff of that nature. But to each his own...I could definitely understand why someone would want to live away from there.

Foxy...the phase II are new. They all pretty have similar makeups from building to building depending on the setup (ie all 2 bed 1 bath are the same, etc). After one tennant vacates, they also really do a good job of cleaning it up, repainting, and cleaning up the carpet, etc so it's almost like you're moving into a brand new place. Do you remember what bldg she told you?

I think I stayed in 3C(???) with my student host (Chandra)....that was rennovated and nice enough for me to want to live there. :) ...it was kinda located in back, like when I left the apartment, I went to the right and stepped over a little shortcut to get to the school. :p

weird...i posted once, and it didn't go on till like, after 5 other posts. weird.

and Desi,i disagree. one of the reasons i do NOT like Woodlands, is b/c one of my good friends lived there, and she HATED it. maybe she biased'd me? but one of her gripes, is the poor maintenance. b/c in her PhaseII, the carpets were NOT new. they were dingy, janky, and had a lot of stains and you could see the high traffic areas. it was nasty. and her complex always smelled like whatever her neighbors were cooking. bleh.

another reason is that i hate communal laundry. i hate when someone takes my issh out (especially my sexy underthings) and leaves it there. i mean, sometimes you forget, and yes, it's your fault. but it still pissed me off! and it sucks to have to set timers to remind you you have laundry...and it sucks to dedicate 3hrs straight to do 3loads.

i lived at NorthGate. it was brand new., (i.e., i was the first one there to mess it up...i mean, live there). that was cool. my roommate and i were really loud. that was cool that no anal pre-meds complained or threatened up. and i had my ownnn laundry in-unit!! nothing like doing laundry whenver...for free...and not having some jerk put your things on top of the dryer b/c you forget for 10mins. and nothing like putting your towel in the dryer before you shower and having a fresh warm towel in the winter! or warming up your pj's and socks in the winter! for free!

I just wanted to say how happy I am that the parking is free at apartments and the school! I just graduated from U of Michigan where there is like NO parking. and whenever my poor boyfriend would come visit he would get parking tickets and even towed once....he will be happy about this:)
hope you guys are having a fun day...I am happy summer is finally here in Michigan...
Also-FU and Desi do you know anything about the Deer Creek apartments in Lake Bluff? I cannot find any pictures online and I am just wondering...
thanks

I dunno FU...I guess everyone has a different experience. When I moved in the carpet was brand new...like it had that new carpet smell and everything. And a couple friends of mine had the same deal in their apt too (which was also a phase 2). Down the hall when some people moved out at the end of the year I think the woodlands people replaced their carpet too. I will admit, though, that when someone in the hall made anything it would cause the hallway to smell and that was definitely annoying but I mean I could live with it. It never got into my apt. The laundry thing I never had a problem with. I just tried to choose the right times I guess to do it. I was kind of used to that from my first two years of undergrad. Back then people were like hawks if you left your stuff in a min too long. At the woodlands, however, I dont think I ever had that problem last year. It definitely is convenient to have your own washer/dryer (I had that my last two years of undergrad) but oh well.

The phase I apartments Ive heard fit that description you gave there FU. Ive never been in one of those so I cant say from experience though.

Amma...the name Deer Creek is familiar but I dont know where it is or much about it unfortunately. Something tells me it might be a complex that's like a min drive from the school down Greenbay Rd going South (what do you think FU?)...but Im not sure about that. If that's where it is then it's pretty close to school but Im not totally sure. Hopefully FU knows some more about it....

I accidentally turned into Deer Creek when I went to my interview....It's right where Desi said, a little further down Green Bay past Finch and the Woodlands, and it's on the right....I spoke to someone else on SDN (can't remember who now) that plans to live there....it's very close :) It was dark, though, so I'm not sure what the place looks like...I remember dark wood

By the way, I love this thread :D

I didn't send that check in yet, but I think I will.....

Desi: I'm on the phone w/ the lady at woodlands now...the apt is 3504 203A

What do you think?

It's a non-pet building :( I guess I'm not getting a kitten

Foxy...

That's a really cool building! A good friend of mine lives in the first floor of that building and anotehr couple good friends of mine are gonna be moving into an apt in the first floor there this July so you'll be right above them all! Haha...what are the odds. Anyways...that bldg is located right by the path to school so it's probably the closest phase II you can get to the school. I think since it's 203 it's in the back so it's facing out towards the school as well (as opposed to facing the parking lot). Haha...looks like that's gonna be one happening place to be if you take that

Oh and yeah that sucks about not being able to have pets in there but I think you'll still like it there because you'll have some cool people at least living below you...

Yay! :) I feel better now. :)

She said it faces a sidewalk and some trees, so that's cool too.

I'm gonna send the check tomorrow express mail so I can at least wait out two more mail-days just in case.

DeerCreek? sounds familiar. but i have never seen it or heard about it.

gettin an apt via the phone sucks. i'm talking to this one guy today, who called me about an apt opening up for $725/month for a single. he syas it's not goin to be available for long. i'm like, "we'll....uh...i can't really do anything from san diego right now, w/o even looking at the place".

bummer.

Good morning everyone!

I called Woodlands to see if there are any apts available, the manager told me there were several available...I put my name on the list temporarily just so that if the roommate list gets out tomorrow I'd have sometime (3 business day, but since weekend I actually have 5 days to think about sending payment) to call around this weekend possibly to find a roommate. If I don't have any luck, I'll just let that apt go. But at least there are several openings according to the manager so I am a little relieved.

BTW, one that I secured is phase I, because I really wanted the 2 bedroom 2 bath. I briefly saw 2b2b during the interview, I liked how you have 2 entries so that you have your own quarter. I chose 2nd floor since I can't stand the sound of people above stomping around. But there were phase II that were 2b1bath, which would be concrete floors. How are the floor plans different between 1 bath and 2 baths? Do you still have separate enteries?

Moving on to non-apt related questions :)

1) I have cingular plan in CA. I don't want to relocate the phone, so that means I'll need a new cell phone in IL. Will it be easy to get a new phone when I arrive there? Obviously, I need it right away, hence this obsurd question... Any company you can recommend that won't charge roaming when I use it in CA?

2) What should I do about car insurance? I am under my parents' policy (AAA). Are there insurance companies that are dependable/cheap?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE this thread too!

Trying: Im not sure really what to tell you about the difference between the two apartments because I haven't seen enough 2bed 2bath but if you go www.aparments.com and then type in North Chicago on the city and IL in the state you'll find some woodlands floor plans there. I can tell you that a 2 bed 1 bath has only one enterance.

As for the cell plan, I think you can get a cingular nationwide plan there in IL. There's a ton of plans that are nationwide that wont force you to roam or anything. I personally have Sprint PCS and can tell you there signal is really good around there. I know some Cali people that had Sprint there as well and used to both at school and back home. Voicestream is another one that I know of that some, in general, have. Verizon sucks there so Id advise against that. You can check out the various providers sites. AT&T incidentally seemed to have a good plan last I heard but Im not sure how there coverage is around school.

My bad on that site...spelling error...hehe. It's www.apartments.com (just so you can click on it easily and go there) :D

Hi DesiMD:

Okay, while waiting for the reply, I called the manager again. Forgot to tell her that I'm allergic to cats/dogs and I needed a quiet place. So she looked for another place (What I had before faced the parking lot, which I assume is a lot louder...). She found 3504 211C which will face the trees (north). Does anyone know where that is located ???? (Hopefully away from the pool!)

I'll go to the website (thanks for hyperlinking it!) and see the plan. Honestly, I much prefer the quieter area (with 1 bath) than loud area (with 2 bath). And I chose 2nd floor b/c I need to be ABOVE someone (noise wise...)

trying2becomeMD: If it's located North then it'll be facing the trees in the direction of the school. So yeah you'll be facing away from the lot and away from the pool.

trying: It's very easy to find the floor plans for every type of apt they have on www.apartments.com, so definitely check it out....and building 3504 (where I'll be living) doesn't even allow pets, so don't worry about allergies. I didn't know the 2BR 2BA had 2 entries...I'll call now to see if mine does. I'll be in apartment 3504 203A which also faces trees and a sidewalk area according to the realtor.

I have sprint pcs, and it worked great when I was at finch, and there are NO roaming charges at all, so I definitely recopmmend it. I have nationwide free long distance too

p.s. tryingtobecomeMD: are you male or female?

ok I just called before I clicked "add reply" ...my apartment doesn't have 2 entries; only the phase I apts do. My apartment is also facing North towards the back of the school, but she said we could only see the school if we look really hard...sounds like a good location to me :D

Oh yeah, apartments.com also has a virtual tour so you can see every angle of the apartment, plus pictures

tryingtobecomeMD: Did you stay in one during your interview?

also, phase I apts don't have garbage disposals :(

And, by the way, there are 3 floors in the buildings, so if you live on the second floor, there will still be someone above you  ...no 3rd floor apartments aree currently available though.

Hi Foxy:

Hmmm... thanks for letting me know that there are 3 floors...you said you are in the phase II apt(newer model), right? Since I am in the same building (?-- since I'm also in 3504), does that mean I'll be in the "concrete" building? In that case, I won't care so much about people above, since it won't be as loud as the wood constructed apt. While looking at the floor models, I realized how I would very much like the one where the rooms are not next to each other. (two 1 bath plans have ajoining rooms and one plan have 2 rooms separated) I don't want to call Kristy again, since I'm not even sure I'll mail the deposit. First thing is to find a roommate... But I think securing a room temporarily now is a good thing (thanks Foxy for making me realize that!) since by the time roommate list gets out tomorrow, I bet lots of people will call woodlands.

Oh, btw, I am a female. I didn't stay in Woodlands during the interview, but saw the place (older complex) briefly. It would be great to know if I'll be in the new complex though, except I hate to call again...

Foxy, was it relatively quiet when you spent the night there? Do they have thin walls? Water pipe sound during shower?

Is phase II the new building? Aren't you in phase II? Then why did you mention about phase I not having a garbage disposal? And is not having a garbage disposal a bad thing? (it's the thing that grinds food down the sink, right?)

And about sprint PC, I didn't want to set up an account here in CA since I'll have to wait until 11pm chicago time (9pm in CA) to take advantage of offpeak rate.... but then again I don't know if that issue is worth the hassel of setting up an account during move-in, finding the store to do that, etc...

Trying: The buildings are all connected together by number but you can't go from one to the other unless you go outside. Like 3504 is one connected bldg but A, B, and C all have their own enterances. So they're connected but then they're not...haha. I dont know if that makes sense but just wanted to give you a little perspective on things. Anyways...yeah you'll be in one of the new bldgs, and they are pretty quiet I think. I mean obviously I could never really hear what was going on next door to me or above me. Sometimes you'll hear some pipe noises but that's I think natural. So it'll be relatively quiet. Oh and yes...haha....a garbage disposal is the thing that grinds down food when you throw it in the sink and down the drain.

Oh and as for the Sprint PCS thing...you can set it up there with a Cali number and still use it in Illinois without a problem. I knew people that did this. The offpeak thing runs based on the local time so you wont have to wait till 11 to take advantage of that offpeak rate. It'll kick in at 11. I know in my case (I have the older plan where it switches at 8) my switch was at 8 Chicago time and not 7 (which would have been sweet...haha). So you can really set that up anytime. And then if you want to change the number when you get to school it's just a matter of calling Sprint up and doing it. The only pain is making sure they hook you up with a local number.

First of all, just in case I ever need to PM you, can you please enable your PMs? You can do it by clicking "my profile": and then choose "edit profile"

But I think securing a room temporarily now is a good thing (thanks Foxy for making me realize that!) since by the time roommate list gets out tomorrow, I bet lots of people will call woodlands.
••••Yep, I'm in the phase II apartments (bldg 3504), with the concrete floors. That's the same building she told you about. I stayed in bldg 3507 during my interview in a 2 BR 1 BA place, and the rooms were separated by the living room...in the 2BR 2BA model, they are across from each other....my room will have a bathroom in it, while the other BR is next to it; i.e. right across from the second bedroom.

I'll probably call people up to come live in my apartment once the list comes out, but I';d really like to meet my roommate in person..so I might wait until orientation and just find someone who has no apartment yet.

•••quote:••• Oh, btw, I am a female. I didn't stay in Woodlands during the interview, but saw the place (older complex) briefly. It would be great to know if I'll be in the new complex though, except I hate to call again...
••••yep, you'll be in the newer phase II bldg...I believe 3504, 3506, and 3507 are newer (what happened to 3505??? Maybe she was just telling me the pets-allowed bldgs b/c I had wanted to get a kitten, but now I can't).

•••quote:•••Foxy, was it relatively quiet when you spent the night there? Do they have thin walls? Water pipe sound during shower? ••••Everything was pretty quiet while I was there, although I wasn't there for long...got there at 11pm and left after my interview....although my hosts were so noisy! They were very talkative, but thank god they answered all my questions! :D They were so nice that it made me wonder why everyone claimed that CMS students were unhappy.

•••quote:••• Is phase II the new building? Aren't you in phase II? Then why did you mention about phase I not having a garbage disposal? And is not having a garbage disposal a bad thing? (it's the thing that grinds food down the sink, right?)
••••I mentioned phase I b/c you said you had an apt there on hold...I have a feeling that phase II apts are much nicer.....And I'm so used to using a garbage disposal, that not having one would be an inconvenience for me...you have to use your hands to throw the grunge from the sink in the trash. Phase II also has dishwashers (I don't know if phase I does)...and yes, phase II is new and that's where I'll be...and I'll be your neighbor if you live in 211

•••quote:••• And about sprint PC, I didn't want to set up an account here in CA since I'll have to wait until 11pm chicago time (9pm in CA) to take advantage of offpeak rate.... but then again I don't know if that issue is worth the hassel of setting up an account during move-in, finding the store to do that, etc...
••••Sprint has the off peak rate starting at 8 pm...I think you can set it up online..I'm SURE they have a Sprint store at the Gurnee mall (well, theyu should since it's the "biggest outlet mall in the US" ), so you could also set it up there....or just use my phone :) I have free long distance, so I don't care....

ok, any other questions? :D

wow, with all those quotes that post looks really long!

DOH! My bad trying2becomeMD....that probably came off confusing. What I MEANT to say was that the switch from peak to offpeak minutes would occur at 9 Chicago time, NOT 11. Haha...sorry about that. Guess I was typing too fast. So to sum it up...if you got a California based cell number and then came to school with that, everythign would run relative to the local central time, and not on west coast time.

Daaamn Foxy...looks like you're going for some sort of record there with the length of that post...haha . Oh and yeah, trying2becomeMD, there is a Sprint store in Vernon Hills so if you wanted to set your phone up there it's about 15 min away.

Oh and Foxy...3505 is also a newer one...it's kind of in the middle. One side faces the pool and the other side faces a parking lot.

oh yeah, the woodlands lady can fax or email you a list of people that already have apartments and are looking for roommates there....she was supposed to send it to me but I never got it

wow. you guys are just like a feed-forward hornet' nest of neuroses and anxiety.

cell phones? c'mon. waukegan and the midwest is not ~that~ bad. yes, they have running water, cell phones, malls, and even the Internet! you can buy/set-up cell phones everywhere.

and just one more thing. it will all work out. i know how anxious it can be, and how antsy you all must be. but all i have to say is, i moved with 4 days notice to Illinois, and i only had the two bags i brought with me on the plane. i didn't know ANYone, and i was crashing at a friend of a friend's house in the city for the first week with my rental car. and it all worked out in the end.

so good luck guys. it'll all work out. when you get there, things will be much easier to handle, also. and that's what Orientation week is for. you get to ask all the M1As, the M2s, and the StudentAffairs or FA people all your questions.

Hey FU...CMS, can you get your custom avatar yet? :p

And thanks for putting up with us

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I know, FU...CMS, I know... I am not THAT antsy if you get to know me in person. It's just that here, I get to unleash ALL my questions that I ever have about anything since you all are so helpful :) Even during the conversation with my friend who will be M2, I didn't ask these detailed questions. I am not even going to let my parents see this thread because they are going to think that I am INSANE!!! But I am very fortunate that I am able to ask these things right now and prepare myself :)

Thanks DesiMD for the detail on sprint plan. I think that I will open Sprint account here so that I'll have an access to phone while getting things settled in IL.

And I am glad that I got the room switched, because I need the CONCRETE!!!! I have suffered my share of wood creaking sound when I lived in "love-boat" complex in westwood. I HATED that place... I have never ever heard or knew that water pipe can make "thunder" sound in the middle of night or that if your neighbors have their stereos on, even if you don't hear the music, you can still hear the base sound through the wall. I absolutely hate apartment living, I am not looking forward to it!!!!! And that apartment cost 1650 for 2b2b. And it didn't have the "grinder" in the sink, our dishwasher had moldy smell, and our toilet never seem to flush (I have biceps from using the plunger).

Moving on to a new question. Just kidding! I'll calm down now and leave you all in peace. Except, no one has yet answered my question about car insurance :) And you thought Foxy had lots of questions about CMS before, huh?

Thanks guys!

p.s. I'll try to get that pm thing turned on Foxy. How will I know that I have a message though?

p.s.s. I have the fax of roommate list. If you wanted female roommates, I can type that info for you. There are only about 10-15 people on the list, I don't think I will call any though because I thought most were going to be M2 students. I rather live with M1 myself.

trying2becomeMD: no sweat. i'm only teasing. besides....what else would i expect from pre-meds???

and i'm feeling ya on the loud neighbor thing. i've had loud roommates, which is even worse. but your concerns....also made me glad that i lived in a brand new apt complex who were very good with maintenance stuff. the only reason i would want to live in Woodlands, is to bring the Midnight Yell to CMS! we only had like 8 CMS kids at my apt. i don't think MidnightYell would've worked as well...

i've been thinking...i think it'd be better to live with a M2. b/c sometimes...things can get TOO close, and TOO personal, and with the small nature of the school, roommates can be that way too. but having a roommate that does not have the same schedule, sit in the same seats, and all that....might be a good thing. and a M2 could help you a lot with any more "questions" you might have. they might have lots of books and old tests too.

(you will know you have a new PM when you log in, or you can be notified by email).

Foxy: i can't find a good avatar, b/c you have to put down an entire URL. and i'm not so compooter literate. i can only type really fast.
