tryingtobecomeMD: Which roommate list do you have, the one from the woodlands, or the one from CMS? How did you get it? I'm only interested in the CMS one, though...

Ah yeah, 200 posts on this thread! Woo-hoo!

Hi Foxy,

I have the list from woodlands. We'll just have to sit tight until tomorrow for CMS one. Hope they keep the deadline.

Let's get the roommate thread moving! Post here: Link

Wow this thread grows like fire!Well you guys have tossed around some really great info about CMS and chicago.I am looking forward to meeting all of you this july.

Being from the west coast and having seen snow for the first time when i went i went for my interview there, it will be interesting to see how i fare in the cold weather.I will try to get an apartment at woodlands.Closer is better.Driving in the snow to get to CMS during midterms week is not my idea of fun.

Trying: you can activate you sprintpcs phone on the internet. they give you a $ 10 credit on your second bill. I work for Sprintpcs and and activate several online everyday.Try calling them and you might even be able to squeeze a free phone out of them.Sprintpcs should work a lot better in chicago than here in california beacuse of differences in terrain.

hang in there everyone. the fun starts in 38 days 9hrs and 45 min!!

no doubt. CMS and Whackegan are the place to be!

snow: not that bad. i had to drive 8.9miles to school everyday, and it didn't bother me at all, and i had no troubles. (i only heard of one guy that hit his brakes too hard and skidded into someone's fender once). it's not that bad. salt, snowploughs, and snowblowers do an amazing job. the snow is hardly ever on the streets. or on the ground, for that matter. it's all like, in the grass fields and where you wouldn't be walking anyways. and it only like snowed 3 or 4times last year....in the "mild" winter.

seriously, my sister got me boots for winter, and i was like, "oh yeah. i'm going to need these". but even when we had 18inches of snowfall...it wasn't that bad, and i don't even think i needed my boots. i only wore them like 3times.

dude, you got hook-ups at Sprint, Zbruin? i need a celly...soon. let me know. i have hook ups, too! i have ALL lecture notes, and ALL the old exams for all the tests dating back a few till like 1997 for most classes. (though they are all mostly in the library too). but i got some hook-ups, too...somewhere.

ohgawd....only 38 more days of summer left? why, God, why????

Hey All-

I drove back from Indiana (where I took my Step 1 today...helpful hint in two years, call EARLY!) and past I-94 Waukegan...and I couldn't help but smile and think Whack-egan thanks to you guys on this thread.

I ended up studying in your library one day for the boards (while waiting for a friend in coming to Chicago)...but I couldn't find any books. Stacks and stacks of journals? Where do you guys hide the books? And there was no one there...

The first two years of med school were really a great time...enjoy it! Good luck!

finch rulz

i am drunbk

thi sthraed rox...wake me uyp tomorrow to send un my deposit

when you guys hook up sprint, giove them my nuimber as your referend eso i get 10 $

haha. mcwmark goes to em-cow. MCoW. hahaha. cows. wisconsin. milk. dairy. my roommate was from Wis-canh-sen. hahaha. he drnak a lot of milk, too.

books? what's a book? nah....they have some good books...like textbooks for classes. they are usually behind the front desk, and you have to check them out with a student ID, (bet that didn't help that there was no one at the front desk, huh?)

otherwise...all the other books on the stacks are scary. they have like...long titles and they don't have pictures or coloring in them.

foxy...you even type with a slur and all crooked. that is funny as hell.

see that? th efinch thread is rockin at 5 am

im sobering upo i swear

shots tomorrow

wtf is a titer? I hope my blood alcohol level doesnt meess it up

LOL...Foxy you're partying with us already..haha. Gotta love people that slur their text as well as their speech...hehe. Yaeh and guys...dont worry too much about the snow it'll probably be worse this year (cant expect 2 mild winters in a row) so you'll get broken in fast...hehe. You Cali people will adapt though...

dude, ain't no part like a CMS party...

a titer is a concentration measurement, usually applied to biological quantities, (i.e., titer of bacteria, titer of virus, or titer of antibodies). they test for titers of antibodies to see if you have a protective concentration against a specific pathogen.

UCLA microbiology & molec genetics ROCKS!

(i don't think BAC messes up how much Ab you have in your blood).

dude....please don't jinx us all with a winter from hell. just like in baseball...you NEVER mess with a streak. let it be two, three, fo', five mild winters in a row for all i care. then you can mess with the streak when i'm back in california for winters.

Foxy: "when you guys hook up sprint, give them my number as your reference so i get $10"

is this a subtle flirt? like the proper rsponse would be, "i'm getting a Sprint phone, gimme your digits!"

if i had game...or wasn't so dense...i would probably know???

LOL, if you refer someone to Sprint, both people get a $10 credit on their phone bill. :)

So, tryingtobecomeMD, tell me when you're going to get your new service!

Mike (FU...CMS) i have sprint too and you have my number already. Oh yeah bro, went to Q's in Pasadena last night and saw your boy Isaac...see you at Wooden next week

another reason is that i hate communal laundry. i hate when someone takes my issh out (especially my sexy underthings) and leaves it there. i mean, sometimes you forget, and yes, it's your fault. but it still pissed me off! and it sucks to have to set timers to remind you you have laundry...and it sucks to dedicate 3hrs straight to do 3loads.

i lived at NorthGate. it was brand new., (i.e., i was the first one there to mess it up...i mean, live there). that was cool. my roommate and i were really loud. that was cool that no anal pre-meds complained or threatened up. and i had my ownnn laundry in-unit!! nothing like doing laundry whenver...for free...and not having some jerk put your things on top of the dryer b/c you forget for 10mins. and nothing like putting your towel in the dryer before you shower and having a fresh warm towel in the winter! or warming up your pj's and socks in the winter! for free!•••••I was thinking about looking at Northgate, but I wasn't sure how far away it was from Finch. I want to have my own washer and dryer in my unit if possible, because I've never had that luxury and this was one of the few places that has that. You mentioned in a later post that it was 8.9 miles from school, did you know any other students who lived there and how long would it take you to drive to school in the snow (or bad weather-let's say)? I apologize for the being nosy, but I also want to try to find a place that I like before I get there so any info would be great!

Thanks for mentioning about the discount Zbruin. It's great that lots of bruins are helping each other :)

So snow issue is not too bad, huh? I am going to get boots though because I need my feet nice and warm...

Hi guys, I am going to drive to North Chicago next week for a day to check out some apts with my parents, so if I will let you know what I see, ok?

the roommate list is out! for those of you who didnt' receive the email, here is the url

***link with personal user info has been removed!!****

yeah  i'm no longer a junior member!

Yikes, I can't believe that the roommate list is so detailed (phone #/address/etc) C33, do you mind taking the list off of the boards so that our name isn't floating around here? Thanks!!

ok, I'm not sending in the deposit

I just got home and in the mail I found out I'm at the top of a waitlist at another school and I'll most likely get in before Aug 28th....but CMS starts so early, it's gonna mess me up!

SO, I don't think I should send in the deposit...do you guys agree?

I haven't even checxked out that roommate list yet.

c33, can you please remove that link? The email says not to share it with everyone, and now the whole world can find out our addresses and phone numbers!

I would like to remind members to please be courteous of other's rights and privacy. I would have thought this would be "common courtesy." Displaying other's info. without consent is not only rude, but probably violates some legal thing or other :) .

While I hope the original poster checks back and deletes this him/herself in a timely fashion, I will notify the moderator of this board and the administrators so that they can remove it as soon as they check SDN :) .

leorl, the personal info link has been removed. I hope this didn't cause too many problems guys.. and good luck to all those matriculating this year!!

Foxy, which school has you at the top of the waitlist??.. share with the class, girl!! :D

Thanks cpw and leorl :) If anyone headed to Finch needs the link, just send me a PM :)

Oh, cpw, the school is Temple

Wow congrats Foxy!!! While Im sure all of us on the thread would be saddened by not getting to have you as a classmate, that's still good news for you! Hopefully you get that call before too long and can get things settled easily. Im in a boat myself with 3 schools, one of which has an unranked waitlist which is really killing me since I can't know my position  . Oh well....anyways...congrats on the news!

Congratulations Foxy!!! Hope you hear good news soon :)

Thanks guys :) I'd be happy going anywhere, but Temple is 20 minutes from my really nice relatives, so that's a big plus for me. :) I just wish I could find out soon so I don't end up being at Finch w/o living arrangements....so for now, I'm still looking for a roommate  ....but I'm not gonna secure that apt and I'll save my $1,000. :D

Good decision Foxy. I am not so sure about vacacies at Woodlands, but I am also iffy about sending deposit since $1000 is a lot of money... Too bad we both have our eyes on that phase I complex that overlooks the trees and the garbage disposal thing, huh? :p

yeah, and I was psyched to have my own bathroom in my room and a walk in closet that could actually fit all of my clothes! oh well.....

Does anyone know what SCPM means in the roommate list?

Wayley: you know i love you. but you never pick up your phone b/c you SCREEN my calls...dickphore.

you went to Q's again? damn! how was it? did you pimp like an Undercover Chinese Brother?

way, you're such a closet SDN'er. why don't you stop being social affectative disorder-ish, and post more? you're the most depressed student i know...share you pain and expr's with all! it's therapeutic and cathartic.

kadini: it takes 15mins avg, to get to school. that's if you take the Amstutz Expwy. but if you're like Wayley, and refuse, the streets will take you about 20mins. record time was 12mins by my roommate. but i thought i would die numerous times during that ride to school. snow did not really affect time of travel...except for scraping ice, and that i travelled a little slower. but the salt and snowploughs do a GOOD job there.

most places/complexes have in-utni washer/dryers. it's a illinois thing, maybe. ask around. i remember when i was searching the web last yr....it seemed common.

boots: dude, you can wear sneakers all year. you jsut have to run from apt to car, car to school, and you'll be safe.

and by the way....

I WON THE WAITLIST LOTTERY

i just got accepted to VCU/MCV! yippee skippee!
my parents and brother and grandparents live there. so i'm going if i get in-state tuition...which seemed very likely when i talked to the FA lady there...

big ups, Foxy. seems like this thread is going to be all lonely and not so exciting soon.

hope everyone else hits the jackpot with the Waitlist Lotto

Congrats Mike!!!

I'll still end up going to Finch because it's not likely I would get into Temple until August...those poeple who decide the Finch start dates are SMART.

Best of luck in med school :D

Wow congrats Mike!!! That's awesome news for you!! Like I said with Foxy...it's gonna suck not to be able to have you as fellow M1A bro but you're going to a better (more affordable) place. I hope now that I get so lucky with the waitlist lottery. We'll see I guess. I just wanna be closer to home when it's all said and done. Anyways...congrats!!

hi everyone, sorry about posting the url for the roommates...i didn't think of the consequences when i did that...hope it didn't cause anyone problems...once again, my most sincere apology...

DILEMMA:

it's still not official that i'm going to VCU/MCV. i have to first call the FA and see if i get in-state. but even if i don't have in-state tuition...VCU is cheaper. tough decision.

what do you all think? VCU/MCV of Finch/CMS? (at least both schools have slashes in em).

besides tuition.....

Roanoke is better than Waukegan, but not better than Chicago.

my parents, grandparents, brother, and 10cousins live there.

but i get to be a M1A and have a really easy first yr and run issh at CMS. and CMS has a name in California for residencies, b/c so many kids are from California and go back there. i don't know how many people from Virginia try to get residency from VCU here.

i don't know, i ddon't know. i wish i could call the FA at VCU right now...

someone help...

Wow FU...that's a tough decision. Well it seems from a money standpoint you're totally better off at VCU...you said it's cheaper regardless of in state or out of state, and with all the family you'll have there that helps too. How far is Roanoke from DC (the most comparable thing there to Chicago)? If it's more south, then you might not be too far then from Norfolk, VA beach, and Busch gardens. How's the class size and class dynamics there? And I guess overall, if you wanna put money aside, what would flat out make you happier?

Sure next year you'll have it easy at CMS but year 2 will be the same probably no matter which of the 2 schools you're at. And there's always the chance you can try placing out of classes. Check VCU's matchlist too and see how they did with people landing residencies in Cali....that might tell you something. You Cali folk are all over the place so Im sure there's people there that tried.

It's a tough choice...this waitlist business sucks, but I guess if it helps put things in perspective, look where you are now as opposed to a year ago :) . When can you talk to the FA lady? Monday I take it? At least it gives you the wkd to ponder. Good luck!

of course, in state is like, $24K full budget. and it's like $43K outta-state. in-state is a HUGE difference, and i would be stupid not to take that. but i have to call the FA office monday and get some answers.

i was actually born in VA, and lived there till i was 5yrs old. i've been back there many summers too. and my bro lives in the DC area. Roanoke is like 1.5hrs away. it's also 1.5hrs away from my fam in Lynchburg.

VCU i think, is way better of a school. i was really impressed, esp in contrast to CMS, when i went there. they have a hospital right acorss the street! and that really makes a HUGE diff. not just in atmosphere, but in opportunities and access to edu and expr.

haven't checked the matchlist yet. will do that too. but yeah...us cali kids are taking over everywhere in med school. so i guess i'm not too worried about matching in CA.

Norkfolk is pretty far. i had to drive there too, from VCU for an interview. like 3 hrs or more???

but man. i'm going to be sad to leave my Wallflowers and other friends. and being a M1A will be SOOOo cool. i was lookin fwd to passing the torch, and running issh at school. man....

well...i guess i have some thinking to do.

FU...CMS: I would choose VCU

And by the way, what time is it in Texas? Because it's 12:30 am here in FL and some girl just called me looking for a roommate...there are little kids sleeping here!

And why does everyone want to study ALL the time? I need to have some fun! if anyone wants a fun roommate, let me know

DesiMD and FU...CMS: have you guys heard of Northern Crossing?
What do you think of Deer Valley?

wake up people!!!

I think I found a roommate :p Now all I need to do is be set on a medical school!

ANyways, northern crossing seems much nicer than the woodlands, and it has a washer/dryer in the unit, walk in closets, the gym looks newer, etc....anyone know anything?

Nothern Crossing is cool. that is my #1 choice of places to live. i was trying to keep that complex on the DL though....b/c vacancies are limited. it's like 3miles/5mins from school, and it's near a movie theatre (the janky $4 one), and it's got easy access to the highway. it's an ideal spot, i think. in-unit washer/dryer, almost brand-new apts...pool, tennis courts, etc.

but there was an all school email warning about that place. saying they JACKED ppl for their security deposits....saying their counters were "scratched". i think they wanted to put new cuonter tops, so they just jacked people for their deposits. shady shady.

but i would still live there if i found a roommate. and if i go to CMS...

but it looks like i'm think Virginia is the place to go.

the security deposits are so cheap at northern crossing! I'm splitting it with some girl from the roommate list and getting one today :) ...and it has vaulted ceilings!!!

Woo-hoo!

The woodlands charges a full month's rent for a security deposit--that is soooooooo risky! Forget that!

Thanks for the info FU...CMS :) Now I don't feel so worried :)

so you found a potential roommate? who's the new gurl? "is she cute? is she brown? does she have nice feet? i want to see her mikey, let her in if she has nice feet."

vaulted ceilings = third floor. third floor = NO fun moving in.

the stairs are very wind-ey (two turns/floor), and there is no elevator. i had to help move a couch for a friend...and boy. no es bueno.

but that's cool you found a place....

and heed the words of the all-school emailers, (you'll LOVE the [email protected] SPAM you will get, all CMS'ers)....be careful about your deposit, and don't let TheMan jack you. they recommended itemizing EVERY little scratch, blemish, mar, or incongruities you can possibly imagine when you fill out the form. one even said to take pictures! hahaa.

The second floor has 9 ft ceilings. I'm 5'3"....I don't need vaulted ceilings I guess :p And the second floor will be cheaper :)

My new roomie seems very cool....she's the only one out of all those freaky roommate list emails that said she likes to have fun and doesn't wanna study 24/7 :p

And I'm being stalked by another girl...she called me 4 times today! Maybe I should have checked "either" so I could at least have been stalked by men!

So.....I'm sending in $275 for an apt deposit, although I'll probably get into Temple.....you guys think I should send in the money anyway? If I end up at CMS, it'll be all set and sweet!

It's for an apartment (that's what I meant by apt  )

In that case, save your money if you really think that you will get into temple. 275 can buy you a nice TV in philly.

Foxy...don't worry.

i'm sure the 2:1 ratio will stay intact at CMS. so you'll have 120 boys, and only 60 gurls in your class. and of the 60, i'd say 30 are not very attractive or not very nice. 15 have bf's. and so that means only 5-10 eligble females who are date-able. you will have 120 guys swarming you like white on rice. it's funny.

i call it CMS astronomy. each date-able gurl will have her own personal solar system. Mercury (the closest orbit), will be the aggressive wanna-be "playa". pluto (the furthest) will be the quiet, humble, shy, and meek asian kid one will hardly notice it's gravitational pulll. all the other ones inbetween....are also just in constant orbit and circulation. you'll have a good time....tho' i doubt you'll want to date within your class...or within your school for that matter.

hahaha. i'm such a sarcastic bastard. but really...Desi, you feel me on this, no?
