APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread (2020)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got an invite! But I will be keeping the specifics on the DL. I've learned there is/are a/some creeper(s) with nefarious intentions on here.
For those who are feeling the stress, you may want to consider that the forum may not be helping you and maybe take a little break from it for your own health.

Hey, @ClinicalPhD ! I'm trying to be strategic about scheduling interviews and keeping certain days open in case I happen to get an invite...It seems like all of the Chicago sites are holding their interviews on the same days! If you are comfortable with disclosing, would you mind telling which day Lurie offered for your interview? I tried to DM you, but I don't think I'm allowed to.

Sure thing! Just sent you a DM.

Congrats! And thank you for being so prompt to upload this. I was actually unsure of whether it had been a mistake or not as they had 12/15 as their notification date lol. Anywho, I have a question for you.... (if you have any idea that is). I too received an email but mine did not specify the track. I received different dates so I am at least sure that it is not for the HRSA track.

...I check this site almost more than I check my email

I just want us all to get along! This thread has been such a wonderful and positive resource. I don’t know if I can handle this community imploding right now! Can we hold off until like maybe 12/20/2019 at the earliest? PLEASE!

*feel free to insert “she doesn’t even go here!” Mean Girls meme reference in response*
LOVEEEE THIS REFERENCE!!! THANK YOU

Mine did not specify track but was more of a mass generic email. I'm assuming this went out to everyone regardless of the track you applied to.

Congrats! And thank you for being so prompt to upload this. I was actually unsure of whether it had been a mistake or not as they had 12/15 as their notification date lol. Anywho, I have a question for you, related to DENVER HEALTH.... (if you have any idea that is)... My questions is, I too received an email but mine did not specify the track. Have you heard of anyone else who did not get a track? I received different dates so this makes me think that it is not for the HRSA track.

Oh I see now. My comment was in regards to Denver. Perhaps different dates for different tracks? There are a lot of them at this site (tracks that is!).

Yes—I totally understand the impulse but most seem to be pretty strict in saying do not contact us before our notification date because they’re so busy.
What does it mean when they email some applicants about interviews and don't email the others? Does it mean rejection? I only applied to 10. I got two rejections already. I am also not a competitive applicant because my hours are on the low side. 🙁( I hate this

I haven't heard back about the adult tracks (at California Pacific) either. I haven't heard anyone else talking about those, so I was hoping there was still a shot for us!
I applied to the child track. Idn... maybe no news is good news. 🙁

Has anyone heard from Denver Health who did NOT apply for the adult tracks?

Yes, here's the info I got:

Official Site Name: Denver Health
Date Invitation received: 12/5/19
Method of Invitation (Phone call, personal/mass email, snapchat): personal email
Specialty Track or Site (e.g., for consortiums): Child and Adolescent Psychology, *OWEP Child & Family
Offered Interview Dates: 12/16, 1/10, 1/13, 1/17, 1/22, 1/27 (slightly different than adult tracks)

I originally only applied to the Child & Adolescent track, but they also expressed interest (if I would also be interested) in considering me for the OWEP Child & Family as well, which I think has a little more training/experience with substance use and telehealth than the Child & Adolescent track, but both involve a lot of overlap in the overall rotations/experiences. I don't know if that offer will be a common offer or not for people who just applied to the Child & Adolescent track, but I think it's at least in part because it's a brand new track at the site (I don't have particular expertise/background in substance use or telehealth that I can speak to or would have been a feature of my application materials to necessarily make me more competitive for that track over the Child & Adolescent track).

It was going downhill for a second today as I'm on like my 5th rejection (lost count). But then this came in!!!! Whoooo hooooo - there is hope in the world. I was so down in the dumps today given someone who is the most unprofessional person, sells CBD oil at work, talks about their previous job working the pole, curses at clients and name calls them (even calls them a$$$$$) got a job I wanted at my clinic. Mind you she has a masters in some random topic and wants to be a social worker....and i'm here like WTF am I doing working at this dump. BUT NOW IT'S COMING TOGETHER!!!

(In honor of last year) If & How you're staying sane: Reminding myself "This too shall pass" at work and gossiping with the nurse from work who has become a silent cheerleader for my progress in my Phd program

Question for the ladies out there - are you all sticking with solid black suits? I really don't feel like myself in an uncomfortable business suit and so I ordered a couple of relaxed, neutral but non-black jackets to pair with black slacks. I still look super professional and I don't mind standing out for dressing a bit more characteristically, but I, of course, do not want to be seen as the girl who went against the internship interview grain. Thoughts?

After being on an invitation high all day...closing out with a mass email rejection from The Village for Children & Families, Inc. Congrats to everyone else who gets an invite there!

I am also super uncomfortable in suits but got one for this process. I ended getting a dark grey suit. The all black was soul crushing and I just couldn't do it.

I'm planning to wear a grey suit. Personally, a site that would judge me for the color of my suit is not a place I'd like to end up!

Same. Tho, I just bought a new one and it's decently comfortable. I hate wearing dress clothing in general....always have.

I believe some people posted that they got calls from Columbia last week or so. I haven’t heard anything from them.

Montefiore historically seems to notify pretty late if you look at threads from the last couple years. Not expecting to hear anything from them til late next week or so.

I thought those Columbia calls were for a different site - not NYP CHONY-6. From my understanding, though, sites are supposed to also send out rejection notifications, yeah?

Yeah, I just looked. That post was for the Adult Track.

Ah, didn’t realize you were talking about child/CHONY-6. Yeah, I think they were for the NYP-CUIMC adult track.

they are supposed to...each site will list their notification deadline on the APPIC site. 12/15 is the APPIC-suggested date so that seems to be what a lot of places use.

I plan on doing something similar (wearing black slacks with a neutral color blazer/jacket). I also know of others who are not planning on wearing strictly black suits to all their interviews.

Okay, that's good to know. It's just a lot of money to invest in repetitive clothing I'll likely never wear again. Thanks for your support!
