Omg wildest dreams came true and I got calls from both Auburn and KSU.....never thought I would be in this position (ever!!!!) and so basically, I dunno what to do! Loved both schools.....any imput from SDNers out there? I know its gonna come down to personal choice and they are both great....just thought I would throw out a line because I have a limited time to respond to either offer!!!!!! Any advice would be appreciated!

Auburn is my dream school, so I say Auburn. 👍

Wait.... I mean Kansas State! Yeah, Kansas State! GO WILDCATS!! WOOOOOO!!!!
(so I can have your Auburn spot 😀) 😉

If you really can't decide, use money as the deciding factor? Which one is cheaper?

Both are 10 hours away from where I live, and all things considered, they are pretty well tied in the cost department

What type of animals do you want to work with? Do you plan on doing internship and/or residency after you graduate? Kansas has a realtionship with the Sunset zoo and offers some exotic stuff...which is why it appeals to me. 😀

I want to do equine and/or small animal (dog and cat) as of right now.

One of the things I like about Auburn is that they don't make you track. You take an equal amount of large and small animal classes/rotations. I personally think it's a good thing to be equally prepared for both. To me, this is a pro of Auburn, but to some it may be a con. Not sure if that helps you at all, but thought I would mention it. I personally am dreading having to choose a track after two years of only classroom work 🙁.

But seriously, you should go to KSU 🙄😉

KSU also doesn't track (a plus in my book), so that doesn't exactly help you there. I would consider the cost of living as Lissa said. I know for me it was a factor to consider.

I'm not sure what Auburn's like, but KSU is in more of a college town so its in a smaller area. So if you like that college town feel then KSU might be better. Again, I don't know wat Auburn's like.

Auburn is a college town as well. A lot more green though lol. I interviewed at both places so I can tell you first hand that they are definitely different!

Can you elaborate on "green"? Environmentally friendly or, just more grass lol? I am a very sleep deprived grad student right now. I regrettably did not get a chance to see the town of Auburn very much when I went down to interview.

haha sorry, I mean a lot of trees and grass. I personally thought the area that Auburn was in is much nicer. KSU has the midwest feel, whereas Auburn has a southern pecan tree and dogwood tree feeling lol. Not sure how else to describe it. The town of Auburn is all about the college as well. That place, eats, sleeps, and breathes Auburn. I personally loved the feeling of the town of Auburn. Not sure how to describe it to you, just something I felt. But I may be completely different than you. I also loved how when I walked around on my tour, people would stop and talk to me like I was their best friend, and then the guy that gave me my tour would tell me how that person was some crazy accomplished professor. The staff and professors there were my kind of people... but I'm a southern girl so take it as you will 😀

I really like Kansas for some reason. Didn't visit the vet school, but spent time at KSU's ecology department and they rocked. The area was cute, and the hills in eastern Kansas are beautiful.

I hear great things about Kansas on this forum, but I'm not sure we have any active Auburn members.

I don't think there's a lot of Auburn people here. Auburn and UGA are the colleges I try to find people from all the time. Haha

If it helps, I had to make the exact same decision last year and ended up here at Auburn. I loved both schools but for me, Auburn just made more sense. AU is in the process of building a brand new small animal hospital that will be opening in 2014 so you will be in the second class going through clinics at the new hospital. The large animal hospital was finished just a few years ago so it will barely be 10 years old when you get into clinics.

I also preferred the location of Auburn even though both KSU and AU are in college towns. AU is only a little over an hour from Atlanta and maybe 45 minutes from Montgomery verses KSU being 2 hours from Kansas City. Auburn also seemed a lot "greener" to me with more trees than KSU but I did visit KSU in early January which could have something to do with it! AU is also 4 hours from the beach which allows for some marine mammal electives as well as being close to both the Montgomery and Atlanta zoos with the Birmingham zoo only be 2 hours away.

Basically, it comes down to where you want to live because both schools give you a great education. Both use tablets for classes and both have great reputations for producing great veterinarians. Good luck with your decision!

Good point! Getting in and out of Kansas is really expensive. The airport literally has a front door and back door lol. Much cheaper to travel to and from Auburn (if you'll be traveling a lot).

Just got back from talking with my family and weighing all of my options, I have decided that Auburn is the place I want to go. Thank you all for weighing in on this...its very helpful!
