Hi People!

If you have been accepted to BU, please post any pertinent information you are willing to share, such as state of residence, interview date, undergrad school, mcat, gpa, EC's, and when and how you were notified.

BTW I'm not crazy, I'm creating this thread because someone recently posted a BU acceptance on another thread.

Thank you for helping me overcome my paranoia!

••••okay so today I received a letter letting me know that I am on the acceptance list and but it states clearly that "initial set of acceptance letter to the Class of 2006 will be mailed out on or about February 15th. Additional acceptance letters will be sent sometime in May." So I don't know how someone could have already been accepted if they have not sent out the letters yet. So don't worry.
Here are my stats:
NY resident
Northwestern undergrad
MCP Hahnemann grad
GPA: 3.5
MCAT: 4/98 7 9 7 Q 4/00 6 8 10 N
lots of EC
Notifed snail mail for 12/17 interview
Acceptance list letter via snail mail 2/2/02

Hope that this helps.

I think I am the one who posted the acceptance. I am from NY and interviewed on Dec. 3rd. I just got the letter in the mail today. It was a thick envelope with immunization forms, a welcome letter from the dean, and information regarding orientation.

Thanks for the info TAP, that's what I was looking for. Congratulations!!!!! I interviewed on the 4th. I don't get mail on Saturdays, but hopefully I'll have a nice surprise in my mailbox on Monday.

Thanks...I'm going crazy...BU has been my only interview so far, and I only have 1 more scheduled, so I'm really hoping to get in.

NYpostbac congrats on the acceptable letter..hopefully we'll both get in! :D

Tap: do you think you're gonna go?

I am on the list that they take their accepted people from and they said that they will start sending out the actual acceptance letter on February 15th. :)

Hey, Doctor Foxy, I think I remember you from our interview day (I saw the other post on BU). Well, I was the one who probably seemed completely lost on the east coast. I was headed for New York after the interview. Anyway, I have been waiting patiently for Feb.15 as everyone else has. I have to say though, that would have been really cool to get an acceptance from them today, considering I am leaving for Costa Rica on Monday and will be gone until April 4th. So I'll be away from my mailbox for two months. I guess my mom will get the excitement of opening my decision (hopefully it's good). Hey, good luck to everyone waiting.....Cheers.

yeah merlin I know who you are.....you were the only other person there when I was in the morning, except for that one girl...anyway, on Feb 15 I'm going on mid term break, and I won't be able to check my mail, so I was thinking about calling BU a few days after that...maybe you could too. Have fun in Costa Rica! Buena Suerte!

merlin, you trader! you're supposed to be going to einstein with me! have a great time surfing in costa rica and i hope you hear good news in the coming months.

Congrats TAP! Did you get that acceptability letter beforeyour acceptance? Mind posting your stats?

Dr. Foxy, I finally got the "acceptability" letter. Here's hoping we make it to the roster come Feb. 15!

I interviewed at Boston around the end of October and was accepted about a month later. I'm still trying to decide between BU and Dartmouth, as both really catch my eye in different ways. My permanent residence is in Maryland, went to a small liberal arts college, 3.5 GPA, good science MCATs, lower verbal MCAT, lots of research, clinical ECs. For those of you accepted, are you seriously considering going? Why? I need help with my decision...still.

Hey Dr. Kermit. Don't worry, there will have to be some really compelling reason to bump Einstein from the top (such as getting off the waitlist at Pritzker). I have been doing some more reading about Einstein and I am getting really excited about going to it. But its always fun waiting in anticipation. Hey, don't you have a choice? Cheers.

I don't get mail on Saturdays either...It'd be really nice if these letters came before the 15th!! lets hope we all have mail on Monday!

NINE more days till D-Day!!!!!! I can't wait! It's driving me crazy! I have everything riding on this.

I'll be in FL on Spring Break when the letter comes. Do you think I should call BU to find out over the phone on the 20th or so, or should I call them now and tell them to send my letter to my house in FL?

If anybody knows any info or has gotten any correspondence from BU recently, please post here. I know of 3 SDNErs recently accepted, and I would like to know if more have been accepted also. I heard from nray that BU says its class has been filled. Have you guys who have interviewed received any news? Do you still expect to hear on or after Feb 15th, or should I stop checking my mailbox?

Doctor Foxy, don't lose hope yet. I was told February 15th and by gosh, I'm going to wait until then... :)

Until then, I'm just going to chill. For some reason, I'm not panicking yet...hhhmmm, maybe it's a sign. :)

Not to add to everyone's stress but a guy in my class told me yesterday that he called BU to ask about the Feb. 15th thing and he was told that if he doesn't get an acceptance in Feb then he can still get on in March when they send out the second batch. BUT the thing is during this time there is no correspondance so I guess if you are not accepted in this round then you can assume that you are either on the waitlist or will get an acceptance during the next round. Although the real pisser is that if you don't hear from either round then you are supposedly on the waitlist... :( ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!

So I am going to go say my daily prayer that we all get acceptances over the next few days...

hey that's great news! that means the class is not full yet! :D

Yeah the class is definitely not full...

So anyone heard anything today???

I didn't get a clear answer from them, but it seemed from our discussion that they hope to fill the class by the end of this month. My guess though is that this does not reflect the number of students holding multiple acceptances, hence the second round of acceptances. Of course they wouldn't give me a specific number, i.e. actual number of acceptances versus actual class size.

Come on guys, get in already! GET IN, GET IN, GET IN so's we can all be one big happy family! If we chant harder, it will happen.

Can any of you give some input on a choice between NYMC and Boston U. Where would you go? why?

Go to NYMC so I can go to BU.

it depends on where you want to be....suburbs or city.

Did you already get accepted to BU?

No Doctor Foxy, but I had a good interview and feel I have a decent shot. (like everyone else)
It is difficult getting information about the inside scoop of east coast schools when you live on the west coast. I interview at both and loved NYMC. But really don't know much about either  . Thanks for replying.

I guess I can provide a little more input. I did grow up in Westchester, NY and lived there util I was 12 (I think NYMC is in Westchester, and is very close to my hometown). Anyway, the people where I lived in Scarsdale, NY were very snobby and unfriendly. Howevrer, NYMC must be in a nice, safe area, and you would have the ability to take a bus into the city on the weekends. It has a nice campus feel so you can focus on your studies. Of course that's a guess b/c I've never been there. I don't know what hospitals they're affiliated with, but if they're in the city, that's cool. Otherwise, the patient population may not be very interesting.

I've lived in Boston for my college years, so here goes. Boston is a very diverse, liberal city. The patients you will see during rotaions will definitely be from diverse populations and it would be an optimum learning experience for a med student. There's plenty to do in the city so you'll never be bored and go insane from isolation like at NYMC. Negatives: I don't remember NY being so frgidly cold when I was growing up, but I live in FL now so maybe I can't take the cold-->Boston is hella-cold! It's absolutely horrible and I would never ever choose to live here in the future unless I was going to med school. Also, driving here terifies me and the roads suck w/ potholes. These are just minor problems, however----it's a clean city with great people....tons of young college kids and recent grads.

So it all depends on what you want. Hope this helps :D

Thank you very much, you helped a great deal and mirrored pretty much of what I have read about them. I think I have a pretty good idea about the schools now. I hated driving in Boston it was awful. I plan on studying a lot so the isolation of NYMC won't be a problem, and I am going to bring my truck. I could not believe how pretty it is in NY. I definitely could live there. Does NYMC have a good reputation with east coast students?

I don't know about that, but I have been to the new Westchester mall when I visited relatives, and that makes it all worthwhile =)

p.s. Although I don't have this decision to make since I haven't interviewed at NYMC, I don't know which one I would pick either. I could live in my grandmother's house in New Rochelle (close by) since she only lives there in the summer, and I could use her car. However, I would probably end up choosing Boston b/c patient diversity is my top priority...then again I don't know where NYMC students do rotations......

I believe they do rotations in Manhattan. I think the 3 and 4 year students move to Manhattan during this time to be close to the hospitals. Does your grandmother rent her place out to medical students? I may be looking for a place in NY if I don't get in a Cali school. I really want to go to NY over Cali so if I get rejected .......oh well.

hehe, no sorry she doesn't...that's cool about Manhatten, though, hopefully I will have to make this choice!

It has been really nice of you to help me out, THANKS! I wish you the very best of luck and maybe I will see you at NYMC, if we go. Do you have an acceptance yet? This process is killer isn't it?

Woo-hoo! My hyper-caffeinated self just called BU, AND THEY ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF SENDING OUT ACCEPTANCES FOR THE FEBRUARY CYCLE!!!!!

So for clarification of previous posts on this thread, the class has NOT been filled. Yippee! Time to go camp out in the mail room.

p.s. calimed, no I don't have any acceptances yet

Foxy...........I have a good feeling that you will get into Boston.........you'll see, you sound to nice of a person to be overlooked. I will be watching this board acceptance. BEST OF LUCK! :D I have my fingers crossed.

awwwww thanks, I hope you're right! Good luck to you too! :D

Dr. Foxy, why don't you call NYMC? I called NYMC once before and an interview invite popped up the e-mail 5 days later. I think NYMC has a large volume of applicants and that it would get easy for them to ignore applications they would otherwise go for.

CaliMed, NYMC's pretty frank about the kind of diversity they want in class, and they told us they would accept 40-50% CA residents. I am certain that you will get an acceptance there. BTW, they weren't kidding when they meant 8-10 weeks for a decision, so at most expect yours to arrive accordingly.

OK I just called NYMC...the lady on the phone hesitated after I gave her my amcas number as if she was reading something (kinda scary) and then she just told me it's still under review and complete. Hopefully they'll give me an interview soon so this discussion would have some meaning for me!

p.s. I mentioned that I got the false interview email first so she would feel bad b/c I don't think they like people calling for status checks since it's online.....but I was polite about it, and i'm sure it was ok.

The important thing is that they PULLED OUT your application. I'm positive that the admissions office over there isn't as organized as most schools, so calling them shouldn't hurt. I had the same type of response when I called, and same thing happened with SUNY Syracuse. The status check is pretty useless (it's been down several times) and even their home page had major screw-ups.

Dr. Foxy, have you been getting e-mails (in the past) from NYMC that they were having problems with their site like not having to access their site because of viruses and such? That might be an indicator that your application is actively considered. Calling them worked for me and two others.

nope, no emails from them except for the fake interview

p.s. been complete since Halloween in case anyone's wondering

Let's hope that NYMC admissions isn't totally crapshoot, you deserve more attention from them than just an apology, Dr. Foxy. My opinion is that because of their problems with the system, they could be struggling with filling their class, so calling them up can strategically place your folder right in front of them.

I just wanted to say that I have been waiting anxiously for today (2/15) for two and half months. Now that it is today, I'm looking forward to tomorrow, b/c nothing good has come out of this over-advertised stupid day!!

p.s. The last mail shipment of the day at my school comes at 1:30 (now). If I don't get anything, then I won't find out until 2/25 when I return from vacation :( Stupid spring break! And when I called BU this morning, they refused to tell me my status over the phone, she just said I'll find out in the mail. This is not necessarily good news b/c I didn't give her my name or anything. Vamos a ver lo que pasara...

Dra. Foxy

bumping it up...

hey guys. I haven't even heard about an interview form BU, let alone an accepatnce. Does this mean that it's over? Also, same thing with NYMC....ADVICE please, and those of you who got into either can you continue to post your stats....thanks a million!! :p

nvr, I also have not heard anything from BU about an interview and whenever I call, they just tell me they are still reviewing my application. I also don't know what this means, but just to let you know, you aren't alone!!!

thanx Mango...this site is great because we are really such a support group...but, like I asked before, if anyone can post stats for BU and NYMC that would be great!

Well since no one has been responding, I will

I have been interviewed at BU with MCAT of 27: 9,9,9P and gpa 3.67, science 3.51, all others 3.85

I know people have gotten in to BU with a 30/3.9 and also 29/3.5

hope this helps

BTW schools like BU with ~10,000 applicants have very random selection processes in my opinion, because how else would they siftthrough all those applications?

Do you know what the percentage acceptance rate is post-interview at BU?

Man! Just called the admissions office to check on my status and the woman got a little testy. She snapped that the admissions committee will let everyone know by early March, if your application is complete already. I'm assuming she meant for an interview or rejected without interview, and since no interview invite yet, I'm thinking my $100 was another donation to the BU fund...

•••quote:•••Originally posted by Ibis:
•Do you know what the percentage acceptance rate is post-interview at BU?•••••I believe it is 25%, but that probably includes those that come off the wait list

Can everyone who has recently been accepted to BU please post stats or any info you would like to share :D

I heard mumblings about BU interviewing about a thousand annually for roughly a hundred spots. Off the waitlist, BU will show more preference to people who do not hold multiple acceptances, as well as those who quickly express their interest. This I took from one of the student tour guides who claimed knowledge of the admissions process.

When I interviewed my interviewer point blank told me that I would get waitlisted and that if I wanted to get off the waitlist I needed to write a letter saying that I would take BU over what ever school I was in. He did mention that if you are holding a state school acceptance they will assume you will go there because it is cheaper so you need to let them know you will not be going there. I actually was straight out accepted so I am confused in why we spend 25 minutes talking about this.....
