Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mine barks at me. And if I do end up working it into my dreams, then Ivy will eventually stand next to my head and bark with it into my ears. If that doesn't work, she'll pet my face with her paw.

I now just use my phone with a Rooster alarm. It cock-a-doodle-dos at me.

YES. I giggled when I saw this on my new phone a few months ago because of the novelty, but it really works for me. Don't get why. Plus it makes me laugh a tiny bit in the morning.

And then there's this...
http://technabob.com/blog/2012/01/05/robot-vacuum-alarm-clock/
Takes off your covers and then vacuums.

My dog wakes me up around 8 when I don't work, but when I get up at 6 for work, I can go shower, get dressed, have breakfast, then go back to my room to feed her and she's still curled up asleep in bed.

I dream ALL the time and usually remember the dreams.

I kind of just want it because it looks cool. Hahaha.

My dogs sleep next to my bed at night.
When I get up in the morning, and go into the bathroom, they relocate to their beds in the other room. They rarely even say hello to me in the mornings 🙁 One of them I have to drag to the door to go out and then close the door behind him.
Then again, I dont feed them in the morning so I guess they have no real reason to care about my waking up.

If I dont have to get up in the morning...they don't move. Which is nice when I want to sleep in, but pretty sucky as a back up alarm!

I am FREE!!!!!! :soexcited:

Congrats! Last day of classes for me today :soexcited: Really sad that it's the last day of canine anatomy though, I'm gonna miss it. On the other hand, it being the last day of histo more than makes up for the sadness! We have equine anatomy next semester and my group is sticking together, so that's gonna be pretty awesome as well 👍. Get a 4 day weekend before finals too, which is great! One day to study for each final, plus the extra time in the day after the final to study for the next one. I really like how they spaced our finals so we have just one per day and then we get a weekend then Anatomy on the next Monday. Can't wait for next weekend where all I have to focus on is Anatomy, everything else (except animal behavior, but I plan to study that after anatomy) will be done. Then after that freedom :soexcited:.

Hey all! It's been a long time since I've posted... 😱
So, some of you are done with classes already??!? Wowza

Awwww! I feel so loved 😍
Seriously, I just like fell off the SDN wagon. Anyway, I leave for Grenada Jan 13! So stoked! I have to do this foundation program still (semester of pre-vet courses, earn a 3.0 and pass an exam at the end, and then will be admitted in August). Kind of a bummer and more hoops to jump through, but it's happening! I guess technically I'll be a 2017'er then. But I love my 2016 group! 😀

We did a rabies run where all the chasers were 'rabid' - I din't participate, being the lazy ass I am, but I did draw a couple of rabid critters on posterboard for the checkpoints.

Do you have more info on this? My class was talking about halloween fundraisers a while ago... 🙂 On a related note, I find the CDC zombie section pretty funny.

At NCSU we're in selectives... I'm in herptile medicine and spent all day yesterday doing anesthesia/assistant surgeon for bearded dragon gonadectomies. 😀 After doing ultrasounds and learning how to handle venomous snakes and lots of other fun stuff. Definitly love being done with real classes... lookit this little face.

The conversation about alarm clocks and waking up in the morning made me think of this:

Anatomy final on the horse and goat/ox Monday and Tuesday. So far I'm feeling better than I felt for the dog, but still freaking out.

At least I already have my study guide done for our biochem final next Friday and won't have to worry about finishing that up when I just want to crash after the anatomy practical on Tuesday.

Ok c/o 2016... I've searched and looked through threads about laptops/ tablets in vet school.. A lot of the responses are a little outdated considering how fast technology changes..

So if someone was getting a new computer for Christmas from their awesome fiancé 😍 , what are your thoughts on tablets vs laptop ... Mac vs Pc ...

I'm in the middle as far as tech knowledge goes.. I have an iPad which I love more than anything, and a Sony vaio laptop which I never use unless I absolutely have to...

The schools I've applied to do not have specific requirements on what to have..

Fwiw, I applied to Mizzou and UTK, so any experiences there would be great. ( :xf: :xf: that one of them will take me 😀 )

I am personally a very old fashioned paper/ pencil person, but many of my classmates have ipads that work great. I barely even use my computer to be honest, and I don't even have an ipad. But that's at UF. Not sure about Mizzou and UTK.

UTK doesn't care which you use. That being said, they run PCs for everything, so if you get a Mac, sometimes you have to find a work around for their older software (photoparade was the one I had most issues with). Not sure if that is a problem anymore.

I loved having my MacBook Pro in school. There is a Microsoft Word option to record lectures and I used that while typing notes.

Thanks for the info Dyachei!! I really want a Mac.. Everything I use is an apple product.. With that being said, my fiancé is a pc guy, and is nervous about investing in a Mac.

Did u use the Mac operating system or did u convert it to windows?

I had parallels on it, so I could boot as PC when necessary.

if YOU are comfortable with Mac OS, and your other stuff is apple, I would argue that Mac is best for YOU. It's really about comfort level. You can always dual boot.

Also, if you are a student, you do get a discount on buying one, just make sure to mention it to the Mac people.

PC guys always say that about macs 🙄. My BF is the same way. It's about your preference though, not his 😀
There are times when my Mac can be an issue, but it's never affected me really. Plus, I've had the same Mac for 5 years, BF has been through 3 PCs in that time 😛

UTK now gives notes on a thumb drive, so if you're a typed notes or make notes on the power point presentation type person, a tablet or notebook would be really helpful. There are some conversion issues between windows and Mac, so I'd personally not want an Apple product if it was used mainly for class.

I might have converted my IT specialist, PC-loving boy to a MacBook Air....
He loves it. He can mess with it in a way he likes and its lightweight with a long battery life.

Can someone yell really meanly at me please? I need to start studying (like last week) for my neuro exam on Tuesday and I just. can't. get. motivated :lame:
I just need someone to yell and get me going. 😀
Pretty please?

Don't know how comfortable I am about OS... I've only used a Mac computer a couple times.. I guess if I end up getting one this month I'll have plenty of time to get familiar with it before hopefully :xf: getting into school for August. But yea I love my other apple devices. I don't go anywhere without my iPad.

If you are comfortable with an iPad, it won't be too different. But go to the store and play with them if you want to find out for sure.

Craziness!!! I've heard the macs are very durable..

This is very good to know!! Thanks Jam!!

It took me a bit to get used to the apple program but after a while it really isn't too hard. I really like it and prefer it now. But it took a few tries to get there.

First final in half an hour. Ready to get it over with. Cannot wait to move on from this semester and have a better time next semester 🙂

I have had every mac I've ever owned a minimum of 5 years. And I usually sell it at that point to upgrade but the machine still works fine.

Hmm I think Macs are winning my poll

I'm literally hyperventilating about finals next week. I am planning to apply for the summer research program at my university (already have mentor, project, etc.). They require >3.3 to consider your application. My finals have the ability to land me anywhere between a 3.0 and a 3.5, and I'm having heart palpitations that I won't be able to get >3,3 to qualify (and make my mentor secure alternative funding for me, which I would hate to do because I'm not smart enough). I feel like I'm going to get so stressed and fail everything, because I have so much at stake. WTF is wrong with me???? I had ~3.8 in UG and now I feel stupid and inadequate 🙁 🙁 🙁 GAH!

I love my Mac an am bringing it to Grenada. However, they give us all of our notes on paper, so computers aren't really necessary for class 😛

I didn't think iPads were capable of having software like Word...? Also, you can't really draw on an iPad very well. Not sure how big of an issue that will be in bet school, but that would bug me if I couldn't make diagrams or representations that the professor may show. Ugh, I tried using an iPad in an organic chemistry class and that was a huge mistake!

Kpowell- I love my iPad but I stopped using it for classes because they print our notes and I like to highlight and make notes on them. It's just how I study best. I use it all of the time for other stuff, obviously. I have a (PC) desktop at home that I use for studying at home- notes, tables, etc. Once this guy kicks the bucket (I've had the CPU for what...5 years?) I'm going to just get a laptop- so much easy to deal with. As for Mac vs. PC, not sure; I really like Macs but I haven't spent any amount of time with them (aside from the iPad, which is kind of a different user interface) and I know I'll be like "wait, how do I xyz!?"

Macs are meant to be insanely user friendly. Not much to figure out. I also love that you never have to install printers and recorders and what not. Just plug in your USB and go. No installations required 😀

Thank you for your response!! I agree I'm sure there will be a period of how the Heck do I do this, but I have time to figure it out. I think I'm leaning towards Mac

I Didn't know that Em! That is very nice!

On the topic of computers, I have a Sony Vaio which I actually like a lot so far. I was going to get a Mac, but I really like OneNote for the PC and just didn't like Growly Notes as well. Also, I like larger screens, and this computer is pretty light considering I have a 15.5 inch screen. Only lousy part of my computer is the speakers, but since I'm usually using headphones or am watching TV shows on an actual TV through an HDMI cable it's not issue. Also, I was able to customize my computer in regards to RAM and whatnot, and it's pretty decent and was cheaper than a Mac before the insurance plan.

I also just bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 inch tablet as one of my Christmas presents. I considered an iPad but since I have an android phone, I figured I would just stick with that so that they sync well. I'll probably get a little bluetooth keyboard for it so I can type notes quickly, but then easily draw diagrams, etc on my notes when needed. Also, then I won't have to carry around tons of paper for Chalk talks and stuff like that and will have everything on one piece of equipment.

That being said, most of my class have Macs, so you should be fine with either. I think only a few schools have requirements

And anatomy final on Monday and Tuesday. Was feeling okay about but people keep bringing up terms and I have no idea what they're talking about, so now I'm freaking out.

Took a deep breath, finished my first run through of histo and clin path, and feel a little better. I still have four solid days of studying before those exams. I can do this!!!

Stop! I used to do this to myself (and admittedly still do 🙄). It just means they have focused on different parts than you so far, and they probably don't know the things you do. You will get there, you just haven't studied that particular material yet. I do hate that feeling though. :scared:
